2 Fantastic achievement for New Forest
3 Marketing for New Forest The stand for New Forest Estate at the recent Failte Ireland Exhibition Exhibition, Publicity, Advertising, New Forest Estate has so much to offer. When a person makes the decision to come and sample what is on offer here, they will leave wanting more. It is a testament to the management and all the staff for the condition of our facilities and the service that is provided. As the venue is only in its early stages there is a huge population of people that have never been or never even heard of New Forest. Advertising is only one avenue to take, however meeting people and spreading the word is the most satisfying. Paul Cunningham, Jimmy O Sullivan and Stephen Barrett are constantly marketing New Forest, exhausting all avenues. In February, Jimmy and his team attended a culinary exhibition in the RDS. Paul and Stephen attended an event in Belfast ran by Failte Ireland. This coming weekend New Forest will be attending the Irish Golf Expo. All of this is crucial in the running of a modern business, such as New Forest. The feedback received has been only positive. This is obvious as the club is gaining popularity every year. New Forest Estate will have a stand at the Irish Golf Expo

8 I look forward to meeting those of you I know well and those I have yet to meet, both on and off the course. I welcome all new members and would encourage all members to promote this great club of ours. We have a comprehensive schedule of events laid out for the ladies club this year and I ask all lady members to support us, particularly in our major events. I wish to let all our members know, that if you have any queries or observations in relation to golf please contact any member of our committee and we will inform you with an answer. On that note; in reply to some of your queries: When on the website for New Forest, the Calendar of events for 2018 can be found under the heading GOLF on the Home Page and also Master Scoreboard can be found under the heading MEMBERS. I would encourage all members to read the monthly newsletter as it gives an insight into the month ahead. I m a firm believer that information for all our members is very important and with that in mind our Honorary Secretary Mary will also be texting lady members with information as it arises. Ladies, we have a good team behind us who are always ready to support us in any way that is needed. We have an excellent working relationship and we cherish the fine facilities on offer. Here s to new and continued friendships, and a great year of golf. I hope to see you all on Saturday the 10 th of March for the Captains Drive In. Many Regards Welcome to 2018 Ladies Patricia Lambe Lady Captain CAPTAINS DRIVE IN SATURDAY 10 th MARCH Ladies Winter League This competition is played over 9 holes throughout the winter. Scores have been counted from both the front and back 9. Patricia Lambe and Sandra McKevitt were leading the way in the best of 6 series. Teresa Heery has added some great scores in recent weeks to pass both ladies out and take the top spot by over 10 points. Teresa has had 3 scores in the 20 s which is hard to compete with. Lady Vice Captain Mary Fallon alongside Lady Captain Patricia Lambe Ladies Spring League This year the Ladies Spring league will be played over hole The format for the 13-hole competition will be stableford. The league begins on the 1 st of March and there is no limit as to how many time a player can enter a score. The entry fee is 5.00 and 2.00 fee thereafter. The best 2 scorecards will count to determine the winner. Let s hope the weather improves and allows the ladies to play as much golf this spring as they can.
9 GREENS NEW FOREST GOLF CLUB SPRING COURSE REPORT The greens at present are being cut at 4mm to minimise risk of disease over the coming months. Dew dispersal agents are being used also this year to give added protection Silver moss will be sprayed regularly during the growing season to eradicate it. Water penetrants will also be sprayed to move water downwards through the profile in the summer months. Aeration this year will take place on March 26 th & 27 th. The course will be closed these days to allow the work to be carried out. The greens will also be over seeded this year. The greens will be fertilised with a granular base feed and wetting agents added to the rootzone during the hollow coring process followed by a heavy topdressing. This will allow them to be cut at 2.8mm for the rest of the season and will give better ball roll. Topdressing will occur regularly on a little but often basis to ensure better ball roll and minimal disruption to golf. 5 TH GREEN The 5 th green has been sodded and 2 rows of trees including roots have been removed during the winter to allow moisture to be retained by the green. Tree removal also allows better light and air movement around the complex which leads to better growing conditions for the plant especially in winter months when photosynthesis is minimal. It will be monitored for dry spot in the coming months. A drain has been installed around the back of the complex. New runoff areas will be seeded next month and will establish quickly when the temperature rises. Tree canopies have been raised at the back of the green to improve playing areas at the back of green. TEES &APPROACHES Tees & approaches were aerated last autumn with the shockwave system and will be fertilised in May. The height will be lowered to 8mm from 12mm to give a tighter surface. Growth retardant along with water surfactants will be applied on a regular basis. Verticutting & topdressing will also take place monthly. FAIRWAYS This year fairways were aerated early to ensure maximum recovery for the coming season. Topdressing was carried out and will take place over the coming months. They will be fertilised and treated with herbicide when weather conditions are favourable. The height will be lowered to 13 mm for the coming season. BUNKERS The bunkers will be sprayed for weeds in the coming weeks. New drainage was installed on the bunker on the right side of the seventh and new sand added. Sand depths will be assessed and added if necessary to all bunkers during the year. PATHS & BRIDGES All cobbled areas are being power washed and will be sprayed for moss and algae. The bridge posts were inspected and straightened. Sleepers were replaced on all bridges and will be monitored over the year.
