4 SENIOR SECTION The following document is designed to assist both New and Existing members with a summarised guide to the Rules and Procedures of the Senior Section in terms of competition and eligibility. Details of the Rules and Procedures of the Senior Section can also be found in the locker rooms. All Competitions played are done so under the Rules of Golf supplemented by the additional local rules contained in this document The Senior Section of MHGC has been in existence for over 25 years and during that time has earned a reputation as being one of the Premier Sections in the region. Likewise the Course and Facilities offered to golfers at MHGC have improved substantially now rating in the top 50 in the UK. Our aim is to ensure Senior Members' golf at MHGC continues and improves the experience of golf, played in the spirit of fairness for all and within the Rules. In the unlikely event of a query or dispute not covered in Rules and Procedures as detailed above please in the first instance contact the Senior Section Captain, Vice-Captain or Competition Secretary. In the event that an acceptable resolution cannot be achieved from within the current Rules and Procedures then further referral to the Senior Committee will follow and a final decision made. Page 4

5 COMPETITION ELIGIBILITY Entry to all Competitions are restricted to Members with a current (Congu) Competition Handicap. Note Members without the above may enter the competition to obtain a Competition Handicap, but May Not win any Competition prizes until a Competition Handicap is obtained. MONDAY COMPETITIONS Monday competitions are played generally in the Stableford or Medal format. They are played as individuals, team and drawn events which will be published approximately one month in advance. Each month at least one of both the Stableford and Medal competition will be designated as a Qualifier (Q) for handicap (CONGU). The winners of both Divisions will qualify for associated Cup competitions. Ladies are welcome to participate in the Individual Monthly Medal and Stableford competitions (competing for prizes) only against other Ladies HANDICAP Full handicap allowance. (unless specified in which case allowance will be notified) Ladies playing in Stableford competitions receive a Handicap Adjustment subject to tees used (Yellow/4. White/2) In Medal/Strokeplay competitions Ladies receive a Handicap Adjustment subject to the Tee used. (Yellow/3 or White/1) No adjustment is allocated for Ladies v Ladies competitions TEE / TIMES The first available tee times are from All Tees may be used for Competitions subject to Course restrictions (Generally November to March. (Yellow/Red tees only) The first Tee is reserved for the Senior Section on Monday until which may be extended at the discretion of the MHGC secretary on application by the Senior s Competition Secretary. 6 ENTRY FEES/PRIZES Entry fees are 1.50 (Unless otherwise specified) and are payable at the time of entry which is by way of recording your name on the sheet provided for the competition in the pro-shop. Prizes are by way of credit to the winner s pro-shop account. (See Procedures for full Prize fund details) Winners of Division 1, Division Runner Up Division 1, Division rd Place Division 1, Division Ladies will be awarded separate prizes within the competition. The total ladies entry fee will be awarded to the winner if less than 3 enter. The total ladies entry fee will be awarded proportionately (Number of winning places/prize allocation) if 4 or more ladies enter. For Team prize fund allocation please see Procedures Prizes page 24. COMPETITION FORMATS/SCORING STABLEFORD SCORING Points are awarded based on the net score at each hole, as follows; more than one over net par 0 points One over net par 1 point Net par 2 points One under net par 3 points Two under net par 4 points Three under net par 5 points Net score is determined by reference to the players individual handicap and the Stroke Index for the hole played. Full handicaps apply unless otherwise stated under the competition rules. The winner is the player with most points at the conclusion of the competition. STROKE PLAY (MEDAL) Each player receives their full handicap allowance. The competitor who plays the round with the lowest net score is the winner. MATCH PLAY In Match play the game is played by holes. The hole is won by the individual or side that holes it s ball in the lowest net score, after an allowance for player s handicaps is made. Full handicaps apply using the relevant Stroke Index determined for the competition. The individual or side that wins the most holes wins the match. Matches tied after 18 holes will continue sudden death from the 1 st hole. Page 6

7 GREENSOMES An 18-hole pairs competition. Each player tees off and one ball is chosen and then played alternately until the ball is holed. Handicaps: lower handicap x higher handicap x 0.4 Ladies playing in the team receive additional strokes (subject to men s tee used W/0 Y/2) using the men s Stroke Index and playing the 18 th hole as Par 5 SCRATCH No handicap allowance is given to any player or team in whatever format the match is played ie: strokeplay, matchplay etc FOURSOMES An 18-hole pairs competition in which each side plays only one ball. During the round partners play alternately from the teeing ground and alternate during the playing of each hole. Penalty strokes do not affect the order of play (ie Player A-B-A-B until the ball is holed) Note: In mixed Foursomes competitions ladies play off the men s stroke index. Ladies receive additional strokes on their handicap subject to the competition s stated men s tees.(white/1 Yellow/3) Handicaps Match Play ½ of the difference between the aggregate handicaps of each side Stroke Play or Stableford ½ of the aggregate handicap of partners 4 BALL-BETTER BALL A competition for pairs of players in which the lowest net score of the partners is the score for the hole. Match Play the lowest handicap player concedes strokes to the other 3 players based on 90% of the difference in their respective handicaps. Note; In match play only one Stroke Index may be used by all four players (normally men s). Ladies receive either one or three additional shots (subject to which men s tees are used White/1 Yellow/3) before reduction. Stableford Each player receives 90% of their full handicap. Note; Ladies receive a handicap adjustment of either two or four additional strokes (subject to which men s tees are used White/2 Yellow/4) playing the ladies stroke index. Page 7

8 COMPETITIONS Monthly Stableford Individual Stableford competition played on a Divisional basis, the Winner of each Division qualifies for the Stableford Winners trophy. Ladies playing in this competition compete only against other ladies. Monthly Medal Individual Medal competition played on a Divisional basis, the Winner of each Division qualifies for the Medal Winners trophy. Ladies playing in this competition compete only against other ladies (Non-Q/Drawn Competition) A Stableford competition for teams of 3 or 4 players. On each of the first 6 holes the best score counts, the next 6 holes two best scores count, last 6 holes best three scores count. Handicaps: Full handicaps apply. Men play off yellow tees, Ladies off red. Ladies receive four additional strokes. All competitors play off their respective stroke index. Am-Am (Non-Q/Drawn competition) A Stableford competition for teams of 4 players. The best two net scores count on each hole. Each team member MUST contribute a minimum of four scores towards the total score. Men play off yellow tees. Ladies play off red tees. Handicaps: Full handicaps apply. Ladies receive 4 additional strokes. Players use their respective Stroke Index Where possible each team will consist of one player from each of the following handicap ranges (1) 0-17, (2) 18-23, (3) Note; Any team with a player missing will be given 3 extra points at the end of the competition. If all 4 scorers are required on a hole then 2 points will be given for the missing player. Yellow Ball (Non-Q/Drawn competition) A Stableford competition for teams of 3 players. Two of the team members scores will count on each hole with one of the two scores being that of the Yellow Ball player. The Yellow Ball player is pre-determined and continues in strict rotation. Full handicaps apply. Men play off yellow tees. Ladies play off red tees and receive 4 additional strokes. Players use their respective Stroke Index Page 8

9 Robin Burton Cup (Q) A Medal competition for Men Only playing off the white tees. Each player receives their full handicap allowance. The competitor who plays the stipulated round in the lowest net score is the winner. Charity Stableford (Q) Stableford competition generally played in August. To enter the cost will be 3.00 with half of this entry fee donated to the Captain s charity. General Rules: 1. Open to all members of the Senior Section. 2. Full handicaps apply. Ladies receive 4 additional strokes. 3. Men and Ladies use their respective stroke indices. 4. Men play off yellow tees and Ladies off red tees. Scramble Florida Format (Non-Q/Drawn Comp) Florida Scramble is a Stroke-Play competition for teams of three players. At the commencement of play on each hole all three players will tee off. 10 Scramble Texas Format (Non-Q/Drawn Comp) Texas Scramble is a Stroke-Play competition for teams of three or four players. At the commencement of play on each hole, all players will tee off. The resting place of the ball from one of the tee shots is selected to be the location from which the team s second shots will be played. Having marked the ball s resting place the player whose tee shot was selected then plays his or her second shot. The players whose shots were not selected then each play a ball from the marked position. Play continues in this way until the first ball is holed. Where a ball s marked position is on a closely mown area the ball may be placed. In all other locations the ball must be dropped. The team handicap is determined by taking exactly 10% of the sum of the team members playing handicaps. This value is deducted from the gross score of the team at the end of the round. The team with the lowest score is the winner. Note: The fact that each player must have contributed a minimum of four tee shots with teams of four, or five tee shots if team of three should be borne in mind when deciding on which players tee shot to use. Men play off yellow tees and Ladies of red. Ladies receive three extra strokes using the Men s stroke index. If a team has a player short they will add up their 3 handicaps and divide the result by 3 to get an average handicap for the missing player. 2 extra shots deducted from their score before 10% is taken off as only 3 are playing shots into the greens and putting etc. Dugmore Trophy (Non-Q/Drawn Comp) A Stableford competition for teams of three players. As far as possible each team will consist of three players with handicaps from each of three ranges (I) 0-17 (ii) (iii) General Rules 1. Open to all members of the Senior Section. 2. Full handicaps apply. 3. Ladies will play from the red tees. 4. Men and Ladies will use their respective stroke index. (Ladies play the 18 th hole as Par 4) 5. Ladies will receive four additional strokes. 6. All three scores to count for the team score. 7. Teams and Tee times to be determined by a draw. Page 10

11 The Tony Horne Cups (Non-Q/Drawn Comp) The Tony Horne Cups are a Stableford competition. Scoring is divided into separate Male and Female competitions and Cup is awarded to the player attaining the highest score in both the Men & Ladies competition. General Rules 1. Open to all members of the Senior Section. 2. Full handicaps apply. 3. Men and Ladies use their respective stroke index. 4. Men play off yellow tees and Ladies off red. Three Clubs and a Putter (Non-Q/Drawn Comp) Three Clubs and Putter is an individual Stableford competition where each player will carry no more than 3 clubs and a putter. Men will play from yellow tees and Ladies from red. Full Handicap applies. Ladies receive four additional strokes. Players use their respective stroke index Autumn Chalice ( Men Only Non-Q/Drawn Comp) The Autumn Chalice is played for annually over 18 holes. Partnerships are by prior agreement between players who will enter the competition as a pair playing Foursomes. Normally, the competition will be played in October. General rules 1. White tees to be used. 2. Half of the aggregate playing handicaps of the partners is deducted from the gross score to arrive at the pair s net score for the round. 3. Where necessary the resultant handicap is rounded up. 4 Members without a partner can add their name on the entry sheet where additional partnerships will be draw. FLAG Flag is an individual Stroke-Play competition. A player s handicap is added to the course par to determine the total number of strokes that an individual may play during the competition. The first group on the course will carry a flag to mark the position reached by the player that is last in the group to use up his or her allocation of shots. Following players that pass the marked position with shots still in hand will carry the flag to mark the position where they run out of shots. Play continues until all players have used up their allocation of shots. The player who reaches the furthest point on the course is the winner. Men play off yellow tees and ladies off red receiving three extra shots. Any shots in hand after 18 holes continue up the 1 st, 2 nd etc. Page 11

12 The Peter Ryder Cup (Men Seniors v Ladies Section/Non-Q/Drawn Comp) The Peter Ryder Cup is competed for annually between Seniors Section men and the Club Ladies Section. The competition is played to Four-Ball Better-Ball, Match-Play format. Teams and pairings will be selected and, as far as possible, will include all entrants. Scoring will be by holes, not matches, the section winning the greater number of holes will be deemed the winner. General rules 1. Men to play from yellow tees. 2. Ladies receive four extra strokes prior to the handicap adjustment, playing off the red tees. 3. The lowest handicap player concedes strokes to the other 3 players based on 90% of the difference in their respective handicaps. 4. Men and Ladies will use their respective stroke indices. (Please note Ladies play the 18 th as a par 4, and the hole is won or lost accordingly, ie Lady scores 4 v Men scores 5, hole is won by lowest score, not against Par) Stableford Winners Trophy (Q) The Stableford Winners Trophy is completed for annually by male players who, since the trophy was last contested, have won a Seniors Section Monthly Stableford. (Division 1 and 2 winners will qualify for entry to the competition) The Winners Trophy is awarded to the qualifying player attaining the highest score. Note; This competition may be aligned to a Monthly Stableford competition (Usually the September Monthly Stableford). The divisional winners of that Monthly Stableford qualify to compete in the following year s Stableford Winners Trophy Competition. Additional Qualifiers Winners of Div 1 & 2 of the annual Stableford Millennium Shield qualify for that year s Stableford Winners Trophy. Medal Winners Trophy (Q) The Medal Winners Trophy is competed for annually by male players who, since the trophy was last contested, have won a Seniors Section Monthly Medal. (Division 1 and 2 winners will qualify for entry to the competition) The Winners Trophy is awarded to the qualifying player attaining the lowest net score. Note; This competition may be aligned to a Monthly Medal competition (Usually the October Monthly Medal) The divisional winners of that Monthly Medal qualify to compete in the following year s Medal Winners Trophy Competition. Additional Qualifiers Winners of Div 1 & 2 of the annual Founders Cup qualify for that years Medal Winners Trophy Page 12

13 Rainbow Stableford (Non-Q) Rainbow Stableford is an individual competition in which both men and ladies play from the same tees. Holes one to six are played from the white tees. Holes seven to twelve are played from the yellow tees and the final six holes are played from the red tees. All players use the LADIES stroke index. Ladies receive one additional stroke on each of the holes played from the white tees. Full handicap will apply to all players. Men will play the 18 th hole as a par 4. The Turkey Trot (Non-Q/Drawn Comp/Two Tee start) The Turkey Trot is an individual non-qualifying Stableford competition played in December. The event is divided into separate Men and Ladies competitions and prizes are awarded for both. General Rules 1. Open to all members of the Senior Section. 2. Full handicaps apply 3. Men and ladies use their respective stroke indices. 4. Men play off yellow tees and ladies off red. Founders Cup Medal Competition (Q) The Founders Cup is a Medal Competition competed for annually by male players and played off white tees. Winners of Division 1 & 2 qualify in that year s Medal Winners Trophy Competition. General Rules 1. Open to male members of the Senior Section. 2. Full handicaps apply. Page 13

14 Stableford Millenium Shield Competition (Q) The Stableford Millennium Shield is a Competition competed for annually by male players and played off yellow tees. Winners of Division 1 & 2 qualify in that year s Stableford Winners Trophy Competition. General Rules 1. Open to male members of the Senior Section. 2. Full handicaps. Fox and Hounds An individual competition played from the Yellow/Red tee s in groups of three or four. The Fox plays first and sets the par for the course. The hounds then play and score according to the par set by the fox gaining and losing points against the Fox. The winner is the player gaining most points on the Fox (In the event of a tie normal countback rules apply) In the event of no player gaining points on the Fox, the Fox is the winner. Equalling the Fox is considered a win for the Fox. No more than 3 points can be won or lost on any one hole. The Fox will leave the hole par score Greenside at each hole Full Handicaps apply. Ladies receive 3 additional shots playing of the Red tees and men s stroke index. Example Holes. Fox 10 handicap. Hound 22 handicap Hole 1 Fox holes out in 6 shots. (Handicap adjustment 1 stroke) Hole 1 is now a Par 5. Hole 1 Hound holes out in 5 shots. (Handicap adjustment I stroke) Hound is 1 under par and gains 1 point. Hole 2 Fox holes out in 3 shots (No handicap adjustment) Hole 2 is now par 3 Hole 2 Hound holes out in 5 shots. (Handicap adjustment 1 stroke) Hound is 1 over par and loses 1 point. Hole 3 Fox holes out in 5 shots. (Handicap adjustment 1 stroke) Hole 3 is now par 4 Hole 3 Hound holes out in 5 shots (Handicap adjustment 1 stroke) Hound is level par and neither gains/loose points. Note. The Prize fund will be awarded on a non-divisional basis Places 1st to 6 th (Pro shop credit) 14/ 12/ 10/ 8/ 6/ (Two free monthly entries to value 3) The Winner becomes or may nominate the following years Fox. 15 Seniors Section Men s Championship (Scratch and Handicap) (Q) The Senior Section Men s Championship trophies are awarded to the men returning the lowest gross and net scores in the August Monthly Medal competition. The two winners will represent the MHGC Seniors Section in the SSAFA Forces Help Golf Championship. The competition is played from the white tees. Note: If the same player returns both lowest gross and net scores the second placed in the gross competition would also represent the MHGC Seniors Section in the SSAFA Forces Help Golf Championship. Captain s Day Seniors Section (Non-Q/Drawn Comp) The annual Captain s Day Competition is played over 18 holes and to a format of the Captain s choice. The prizes to be awarded to the winners of the main competition and any subsidiary events, such as Nearest the Pin will be at the Captain s discretion. The Seniors Silver Jubilee Shield (presented to the Seniors Section by Chris Hudson) will be awarded to the winning man. The Senior Ladies Trophy (presented to the Senior Section by Dorothy Gorton) will be awarded to the winning lady. Team Stableford (Non-Q/Drawn Comp) A Stableford Competition for teams of three players. The team score for each hole is determined by multiplying all three individual Stableford scores together. If one player fails to score, multiply the other two scores together. If two players fail to score, the team score is zero. PLAYER A PLAYER B PLAYER C TEAM SCORE Hole 1 3 Points x 2 Points x 2 Points = 12 Points Hole 2 4 Points x 4 Points x 1 Points = 16 Points Hole 3 1 Point x 1 Point x 1 Point = 1 Points Hole 4 4 Points x 0 Points x 0 Point = 0 Points The team accumulating the highest points for the 18 hole round is the winner. General Rules Open to all members of the Senior Section. Full handicaps are used. Men and Ladies will use their respective stroke indices. Men will play from yellow tees and Ladies from red. 16 Captain vs Vice Captain (Non-Q/Drawn Comp) The Captain vs Vice Captain is competed for annually between teams made up of Senior Section Men and Ladies. Teams and pairings will be selected by the Captain and Vice- Captain and, as far as possible, will include all entrants. The competition is played to Four- Ball Better-Ball, Match-Play format. General rules 1. Men to play from yellow tees. 2. Ladies receive three extra strokes prior to the handicap adjustment, playing off the red tees. 3. The lowest handicap player concedes strokes to the other 3 players based on 90% of the difference in their respective handicaps. 4. Ladies will play off the men s stroke index.(please note Ladies play the 18 th as a par 4, and the hole is won or lost accordingly, ie Lady scores 4 v Men scores 5, hole is won by lowest score not against Par) Eclectic ( Men Only ) Eclectic is a competition played over ten designated rounds of stroke play. The Eclectic competition will usually comprise five Medals and five Stableford rounds. The lowest gross score that a player records on each of the eighteen holes during the course of the ten rounds will determine his final gross Eclectic score. The winner is the player with the lowest net score for the competition following a deduction of ¾ of his playing handicap prevailing on the final day of the competition. The number of rounds to count may be reduced in the event of cancellation of designated round(s) because of course closure or adverse conditions. Note: Only scores made when the round is played on a regulation course will qualify for inclusion in the Eclectic competition. Scores recorded on a day when the course includes any temporary holes or greens will not be eligible for inclusion in the Eclectic competition. Page 16

17 Senior Golfer of the Year The Seniors Golfer of the Year Trophy is awarded annually for performance in monthly Stableford and Medal competitions (Whether Qualifying or Non-Qualifying). Ten points will be awarded to the winner, nine points to the runner up and so on down to one point for tenth place. Points will be awarded on a non-divisional basis and the individual player accumulating the highest total number of points throughout the year will be presented with the Senior Golfer of the Year. Note: Only results achieved when a competition is played on a regulation course will count towards the Golfer of the Year Competition. General Male competitors in Seniors Medal and Monthly Stableford competition are automatically entered for the Golfer of the Year Competition. The Competition will be run from November until October of the following year. In the event of a tie the Senior Golfer of the Year will be decided by dividing the number of points by the number of competitions played by each of the tying players. A points table will be published after each year s competition has run for two months and will be up-dated monthly thereafter. In the event of a tie in a monthly competition normal count back rules will apply. If unresolved then both players will receive the points for the place tied. General rules for Knockout competitions Knockout Competitions The first named player(s) in the draw are deemed the challenger(s) Match arrangements The challenger(s) must offer the opponent(s) three dates (Monday to Friday) on which they could play the match. The offer must be made no later than three weeks before the date on which that particular round of the competition has to be completed. The onus is on the challenger s opponent to accept one of the offered dates. Alternatively, the challenger(s) and his or her opponent(s) may mutually agree a date on which to play their match. The mutually agreed date could be at a weekend. The loser is responsible for up-dating the draw sheet after the match. Every effort should be made to complete the knockout matches by the set date. A failure by either the challenger or the opponent to fulfill their obligation under these rules will result in the party or parties in default being eliminated from the competition. The Seniors committee reserves the right to exercise discretion and extend the date where necessary. Page 17

18 Veteran s Trophy (Non-Q/ Round 1 will be drawn) The Veterans Trophy is played for annually in singles, knockout, match-play competition and is open to all members of the Senior Section. (See entry Criteria below) The competition will comprise a number of designated rounds to be played between 1 st April and end of September. In the event of a match being level at the 18 th hole, the players will continue until a result is obtained ( sudden death ) and strokes taken according to the stroke index of each hole. To compete for the Veterans Trophy the following criteria must be met. Ladies must have reached the age of 60 by the date at which the competition entry closes Men must have reached the age of 65 by the date on which the competition entry closes. Men play from the yellow tees Ladies receive 3 additional strokes playing off red tees using the men s stroke index Handicap Full Difference Seniors Trophy ( Men Only Competition) (Non Q/ Round 1 will be drawn) The Seniors Trophy is played for annually in singles, knockout, match-play competition. The competition will comprise a number of designated rounds to be played between 1 st April and end of September. The competition is played from the white tees. Handicap: Full difference. In the event of a match being tied at the 18 th hole, play will continue until a result is obtained ( sudden death ). Page 18

19 Mixed - Pairs Knockout Competition (Greensomes/Non-Q/ Round 1 will be drawn) The Mixed Pairs Knockout is a Greensomes match-play competition played annually over a designated number of rounds between 1 st April and end of September. Competition entries should be made as mutually agreed pairings. General rules Men play from yellow tees and ladies off red tees. Handicap: 0.6 x the lower handicap x the higher handicap. In the event of a match being tied at the 18 th hole, play will continue until a result is obtained ( sudden death ). Men s stroke index will be used. Ladies receive 2 additional strokes. Ladies play the 18 th hole as a par 5.. Fairways Cup (Men's Pairs/Knockout/Greensomes) (Non Q/ Round 1 will be drawn) The Fairway Cup is a pairs, knockout competition for Men and is played for annually between 1 st April and end of September over a designated number of 18 hole rounds. The competition is played to the Greensomes match-play format. Partnerships are by prior agreement between players who will enter the competition as a pair. In the event of the match being level at the 18 th hole, the players will continue until a result is achieved ( sudden death ). The competition is played from the yellow tees. 20 Winter Pairs ( Men Only / Non-Q/ Round 1 will be drawn) The competition will be played to the Matchplay Greensomes format over 18 holes played from the Yellow tees. The Competition will run from 1 st October to the 31 st March. All first group matches to be completed by the last day of December. All second group matches to be completed by the last day of February. The semi-final and final to be completed by 31 st March. In the event of an unusually bad winter period a time extension may be granted by the Seniors Committee. The Competition will be run in appropriate groups (first round drawn from the total entries) and played in a round-robin system. The group winners and second place will go through to the second group matches played as before in a round-robin system. Winners of these groups will be semi-finalists. Winners of the semi-finals will go through to the final. Groups will be run on a league basis where the winner of a match receives three points and a drawn match receives one point. In the event of a tie for group winner, the pair with the highest accumulated margin of wins will go through. Handicap: 0.6 x lower handicap x higher handicap of each side will be used. Page 20

22 COMPETITION ENTRY PROCEDURES. Drawn competitions including knockouts. Competitions will be publicised, approximately one month in advance by notices in the Men s and Ladies locker rooms and the MHGC Seniors Section Web page The notice will advise Date of competition. Closing date for entries. Entry fee. Competition format. The Competition Secretary maintains a folder containing current competition entry forms at the Pro-Shop. The forms specify The entry fee appropriate for the competitions in question. Any eligibility requirements. Closing date for entries. On payment of the appropriate fee, players may record their intent to enter a competition by writing their name on the relevant form. It should be noted that entry fees are non-returnable except when the course is closed. The fees paid by players who later withdraw from a competition are donated to the Captain s Charities. However, should a player NOT get a game owing to insufficient numbers to make up teams for drawn competitions then he/she will be entitled to a refund of his/her entry fee and should ask the Treasurer for this refund. Competition entries close at 11:00am on the closing date. At that time the competition secretary will; Collect the entry form and entry fees from the Pro-Shop. Conduct the competition draw. Pass the entry fees to the Treasurer. A notice publicising the draw will be posted in the men s and ladies locker rooms and the MHGC Senior Section Web page approximately one week before the date of the competition. The Treasurer will inform the Pro Shop of the prize winners and pay all associated prize money for allocation to the prize winners accounts. Only in the event that the course is closed, the treasurer will make credits available to any senior who has paid their entry fee and those members will be able to choose whether their credit is used for a future senior s game, or not at all, in which case, the funds will be credited to the relevant captain s charity. 23 Stableford and Medal competitions. The procedure for entry to Stableford and Medal competitions is similar to that described above excepting that; Entries for Monday competitions will not close until the day of the competition subject to the availability of a tee time within the reserved period. Entries are initially as three ball games. When all allocated tee times are taken up entrants may make up four ball groups by adding their names to the last available three ball group. 9 Hole Stableford Competition (Thursdays) This is a Stableford competition played over the front nine holes. Tee times are not booked. The entry fee is 0.50 and is paid at the Pro Shop. Score cards are to be placed either in the Seniors Box in the gents changing room or, for ladies, in the pink folder in the desk drawer in the clubhouse entrance hall by 4.00pm on the day of the competition. Results are posted in both the gents and ladies changing rooms. There is a weekly cash prize. A running monthly Stableford will also run for which entry is free. A prize is awarded to the lady and gent with the highest total scores. The policy is as follows: EXTENDING KNOCKOUT PLAY BY DATES Every effort should be made to complete knockout matches by the set date. The Seniors Committee reserve the right to exercise discretion and extend that date where necessary, for the following reasons only: A serious medical reason that prevents the match from being completed by the set date, but where it can be completed within the following 2 weeks. A serious compassionate reason which prevents the match from being completed by the set date, but where it can be completed within the following 2 weeks. Temporary unavailability, holidays and minor illnesses are not regarded as reasons for an extension. Each case will be decided on its merits. The granting of an extension in one case will not be regarded as a precedent for another. Page 23

24 PROCEDURE FOR REQUESTING AN EXTENSION A request to extend a play by date must be made to the Competition Secretary as soon as possible. The Competition Secretary and the Seniors Captain will come to a decision and the claimant will be informed of the outcome and where an extension has been agreed, a new play by date. Their decision will be final. The Captain and Competition Secretary must consider the knock-on effect of any extension and they must ensure that any following matches in the competition or other seniors are not disadvantaged and that they are given sufficient time to complete the next round. Any extension of a play by date will be made by exception and will only be granted in extenuating circumstances. Seniors/Pairs who fail to complete their matches by the agreed or set date will be disqualified from the competition. PRIZES: Individual Stableford and Medal competitions. A pro-shop credit is awarded to Division 1& Division 2 winners. A 7.00 credit is awarded to second place in Divisions 1 & 2 and a 5.00 credit is awarded to third place in Divisions 1 & 2 Ladies will be awarded separate prizes within the competitions. The total ladie s entry fee will be awarded to the winner if 3 or less than Ladies enter. The total ladie s entry fee will be awarded proportionately (Number of winning places/prize allocation) if 4 or more ladies enter in accordance with the Treasurers Table below. 4 W nd 1.50 (Total entry fee 6) 5 W nd 2.50 (Total entry fee 7.50) 6 W nd 3.00 (Total entry fee 9) 7 W nd 3.50 (Total entry fee 10.50) 8 W nd 4.00 (Total entry fee 12.00) 9 W nd 4.50 (Total entry fee 13.50) at 10 add 3 rd place W.9.00, 2 nd 4.50,3rd 1.50 and then increase each by 50p each time an additional lady plays. Pairs Competitions. Members of the winning pair will each receive a pro-shop credit to the value of 12.00p. Each member of the second-place pair will receive a pro-shop credit to the value of 7.00p. 25 Competitions played by teams of three. For competitions comprising teams of 3 players, a pro-shop credit to the value of is awarded to each of the winning team members, 6.00 pro-shop credit is awarded for second place. Providing that the total number of entrants exceeds forty, then a 3 rd place prize of 5.00 pro-shop credit will be awarded. Competitions played by teams of four. For competitions comprising teams of 4 players, a pro-shop credit to the value of 7.00 is awarded to each of the winning team members. A second-place prize will be awarded providing that the total number of entrants exceeds forty. Where applicable pro-shop credits to the value of 5-00 will be awarded to each member of the second-place team. Procedure for deciding ties (Count back) R&A Rules Medal Competitions When 2 or more players have the same medal score, a count back is necessary to find the winner: Medal score on the back 9 minus half their handicap. Medal score on back 6 minus 1/3 rd their handicap. Medal on back 3 minus 1/6 th of their handicap. Medal on back 1 minus 1/9 th of their handicap. Medal score on back 12 minus 2/3 rd handicap and finally back 15 minus 5/6 th. If two tee/shotgun start the back 9 will always be holes Stableford Competitions When 2 or more players have the same stableford score, a count back is also necessary to find the winner: Who has the most points on the back 9. Who has the most points on the back 6, then back 3 and back 1. If still not resolved then; Who has the most points on the back 12 then back 15. 26 COMPETITION NOTICES. Forthcoming matches, competitions and competition draws are publicized by notice posted on the Senior Section notice Board and the MHGC Seniors Section Web Page. Members are politely requested not to add or delete names displayed on notices for club competition or inter-club matches without prior consultation with the Seniors Captain, Vice- Captain or Competition Secretary. Pre-Drawn Team Competitions WITHDRAWAL FROM MONDAY COMPETITIONS: Any player wishing to withdraw from a pre-drawn team competition following the closing date for entries should give notice of his or her intent to the Competition Secretary or Assistant Competition Secretary. Any player failing to give notice of withdrawal will, on the first occasion, be asked by the Seniors Captain for an explanation of their failure to do so. Unless in the view of the Committee the reasons for failing to give notice of withdrawal were wholly exceptional, the player will be sent a letter reminding them that this is not acceptable practice and informing them that a second such failure within 6 months will result in the player being excluded from four consecutive Monday competitions specified by the Committee. In only the most exceptional circumstances the Committee may, at its discretion, waive the exclusion in the event of a second failure. Stablefords and Medals Any player withdrawing from an individual Stableford or Medal competition must always notify the Pro Shop at the earliest possible opportunity so that the entry sheet can be amended. Where withdrawal is at the last moment, for example due to illness immediately prior to the competition, it would be courteous also to inform their playing partners (as advised by the Pro Shop) so that they are forewarned. REDUCED NUMBER OF TEAM MEMBERS IN A FLORIDA SCRAMBLE Where the number of players in a team is reduced by the withdrawal or absence of a team member the following provisions will apply; Where possible a reserve or replacement player will be used. Where a team is reduced to 2-players both players will take all shots. 15% of the aggregate handicap of the players will be deducted from the gross score to determine the team score. Two teams each of two players may join and play together as a 4-ball but must score as individual 2-player teams and each calculate their net scores as prescribed above. Page 26

27 STARTING INTERVALS. Time intervals between games will generally be as follows; 3 Ball competitions 7 minutes. 4 Ball competitions 9 minutes. The handicap limits for the two divisions are; DIVISIONAL HANDICAPS. Division 1. Up to and including playing handicaps of 20. Division 2. Playing handicaps of 21 and over. SCORE CARD PROCEDURE. Qualifying competition cards will be passed to MHGC Secretary after initial checking by competition secretary. (or nominee) The cards will be accompanied by a summary sheet giving Number of Division 1 entrants Number of Division 2 entrants Names of players registering non-returns. Incorrectly completed cards may be disqualified by either the Seniors Competition Secretary or the Club Secretary. Eclectic results are coordinated by a nominee of the committee. MHGC Secretary will process qualifying competition cards for handicap adjustment. CANCELLATION OR CURTAILMENT OF EVENTS. Our competitions are played in accordance with The Rules of Golf. Competitions can only be called off once they have started in the event that the Course becomes closed or the Committee decide that exceptional circumstances exist. (Bad weather is not normally considered to be exceptional circumstances) If the Committee considers that exceptional circumstances exist then the most senior responsible committee member present may cancel, suspend, or alter play for any reason. Additionally, Qualifying competitions can only be changed to Non-Qualifier in exceptional circumstances and must be before play commences. (Bad weather is not normally considered to be exceptional circumstances) The Competition Secretary/Assistant Competition Secretary or most senior Committee member present may change the competition status as above and notify the MHGC secretary of the change and reason as soon as practicable.
