1 ENNISCORTHY PRO SHOP NEWSLETTER February 2017 STEPHEN FITZPATRICK PGA PROFESSIONAL ENNISCORTHY GOLF CLUB VIEW FROM THE PRO-SHOP As we approach the official start of the golfing season the Shop is ready and waiting for our new stock to arrive plenty of exciting changes are planned so watch this space! Overall we have had a great golfing winter with only a handful of days lost to inclement weather the course has been busy every day and it s great to see our members getting to play golf the whole year round. Our Competition numbers have been great, particularly our Ladies who have been coming out in their droves every Tuesday for their new 9 hole event. Don t forget to pencil into your diary next weekends (Feb 26 th ) Captains drive-in. It promises to be a great occasion for Jack and Mary so please come and support them both. GET INTO GOLF PROGRAMMES Our first Get Into Golf programme for Ladies is already underway this year with a very enthusiastic group This 8 week programme, designed to attract new members into our club is the ideal taster for anyone thinking of taking up golf. The 8 weeks includes 4 hours coaching, on course mentoring and a general showcase of our clubs attractive social environment. We will be running these groups all year so if you know anyone thinking of taking up this great sport get them to call us in order to give it a go. The top 30 players are scheduled to go out for one final round hoping to pick up one of the many prizes on offer! For anyone thinking of changing any of their equipment this is an opportunity not to pass up A 40 minute session with a European tour club fitting expert, using the very latest computerised launch monitor is a guaranteed way to get exactly the right equipment to suit your physical profile and swing. Spaces will be limited and there is no cost so contact us ASAP to book a slot. The Demo Day will take place on Tuesday 18 th April from 1-5. 4 STEPHENS TIP OF THE WEEK SWING THOUGHTS Do you remember the last time you played really well?? Were you thinking about your swing that day?? The answer is almost certainly no!! Having good swing thoughts is vital to improving your technique and ultimately shooting lower scores. However there is a time and place for them standing over your shot in the middle of a competitive round is neither the time nor place. You should work on the technical side out on the practice area, then reinforce the resulting swing thoughts when taking your practice swing on the course. When it s time to execute your shot you should completely abandon your swing thoughts and focus wholely on the target itself. Pick out the smallest target you can identify in the distance that s on your target line look at it for 5 seconds. Step into the shot. Look at it again. Make your Swing. So the next time you hit a bad shot, don t try and follow it with a different swing or swing thought increase your focus on the target instead!
