All credential requests should be directed to Sports Information Director Ryan Rebholz at with the subject Credential Request. Media members are asked to make credential requests at least 24 hours prior to the game. Each visiting opponent sports information director submits a list of attending media members. To get on that list, please inform the respective school s sports information director prior to that week. MEDIA WILL CALL/ENTRANCE All media members must pick up credentials and enter at the George P. Miller Stadium Ticket Booth, which is open two hours prior to kickoff. The Ticket Booth is located on the East side of the stadium, in front of the main entrance (directly across from the Kovalchick Complex). Due to time contraints, visiting radio and television can pick up their credentials in the press box or from their respective sports information director. PARKING There are no parking passes for working media members. Instead, free parking for credentialed media is located in the Zink Lot, which is located on the Northwest corner of the stadium and can be reached from Maple Street. 9 THE PENNSYLVANIA STATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE Originating in 1951 to administer and promote men s athletics, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) has evolved into one of the NCAA s most heralded intercollegiate conferences. The first major step came in 1977, when based on a growing interest, the league reorganized to provide a structure for its women s programs. Only three years later, lacking a standard competitive division, the league voted to reclassify the entire conference to NCAA Division II. Among its recent enhancements, the PSAC has expanded its membership twice during a four-year span. The first occurred during the academic year with the addition of full-time members Gannon University and Mercyhurst College, and associate member Long Island University-C.W. Post. On July 1, 2013, Seton Hill University and the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown joined the PSAC. The membership now consists of 18 full-time institutions. All of the league s full-time members are located within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, which makes the PSAC the largest one-state conference in the NCAA. The league has also grown to share the distinctions as: The largest conference in Division II, the largest football-playing conference in the NCAA, and, with 23, the conference that sponsors the most championships at the Division II level. Although all 18 current institutions are members of Division II, seven league schools also compete at the Division I level in select sports. PSAC schools enroll over 127,000 students and claim over 710,000 alumni, including 483,000 who reside in Pennsylvania. The PSAC is governed by the presidents of the 18 member institutions. It employs a commissioner, an associate and assistant commissioner, and a director of media relations at its headquarters in Lock Haven, Pa. 18 2016 SEASON PREVIEW A FEW 2016 SEASON STORYLINES Experience Will Be Key: The Crimson Hawks return 19 starters from last year s NCAA playoff squad, including 10 on offense, seven on defense, and both kickers. Several others with starting or meaningful playing experience are scattered throughout the roster, making this arguably Curt Cignetti s most experienced team in his six seasons at IUP. CRIMSON HAWKS RETURN 19 STARTERS FROM LAST YEAR S NCAA PLAYOFF RUN IUP is aiming to build on its success from a season ago, which saw the Crimson Hawks go 9-3 overall, clinch a share of the PSAC West title, and advance to the second round of the NCAA DII playoffs. The Crimson Hawks lost three games by a combined six points, including two one-point losses at the hands of Kutztown and Slippery Rock. IUP is being held to lofty expectations in It is only one of three teams in the PSAC to garner a preseason ranking in national publications. The Sporting News picked the Crimson Hawks fourth in the preseason poll released earlier in the summer, and Lindy s Sports Preseason Annual lists IUP as No. 15. Road Warriors: IUP will begin the 2016 season with three consecutive road games against East Stroudsburg, Cheyney and Edinboro. The Crimson Hawks have a combined all-time record of against these three teams. IUP went 4-2 last year on the road, dropping those two games by a combined five points. IUP lost to 15th-ranked Slippery Rock and to 5th-ranked Shepherd in the playoffs. The Crimson Hawks home opener is on October 1 against Seton Hill, the school s annual Hall of Fame Game. All Things Old Are New Again: Plans to install a new turf field at George P. Miller Stadium were made during the summer of The new field will be ready for the start of the 2016 fall sports season and will feature alternating shades of green, gray end zones, IUP athletics brand specific numbering and font, and the Hawk Head logo at midfield, among several other school and conference specific features. Put Me In, Coach: IUP added two new coaches to the staff in 2016, announcing the hiring of Mike Shanahan as the new wide receivers coach and Anthony Leonard to coach the defensive line. Shanahan played wide receiver at the University of Pittsburgh, where his 159 catches for 2,276 yards both rank in the top 10 in program history. Leonard was a three-year team captain as a linebacker at West Virginia University, playing in four bowl games and earning All-Big East honors. REGION & PSAC WEST FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR LENNY WILLIAMS RETURNS AT QUARTERBACK IUP s offense got a bit of a makeover in 2015 under new offensive coordinator Marty Higgins, averaging roughly 10 points more per game than it had in The Crimson Hawks will return many key pieces from last season, including dual-threat QB Lenny Williams, the PSAC West and Super Region One Freshman of the Year, who became the first QB in PSAC history to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season. Williams 1,229 rushing yards set a single-season conference record for rushing yards by a QB. He took over the starting job in the third game of the season and completed almost 58 percent of his passes for 1,549 yards and nine touchdowns. In addition to Williams, Andre Dreuitt-Parks returns for his second year, alongside Robert Morris transfer Mike DeBaugh. Williams had 39 total plays of 20 yards or more (22 pass, 17 rush), including nine at Slippery Rock. RUNNING BACK POSITION WILL AGAIN BE DEEP & TALENTED, FEATURES 4 PLAYERS WHO HAVE RUSHED FOR 100 YARDS IN A GAME Perhaps the strongest unit of the entire team, the running backs will be asked to carry the load offensively. IUP finished 2015 as the nation s fifth-best rushing offense, racking up yards per game on the ground. Chris Temple will provide the one-two punch in the running game, with Williams. The junior had a school-record six rushing touchdowns against Edinboro last year and finished the season with 1,212 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns. Luigi Lista-Brinza enters his junior season with 15 rushing touchdowns in two seasons. Lista- Brinza led the Crimson Hawks in rushing his freshman year. Shannon Jackson and Drew Harris will both add valuable depth to the position. Both backs featured big-play ability and had breakout performances at various parts of Jackson, who stepped up when called upon against Clarion because of injuries to Temple and Lista- 18

He s also 6-0 when two players top the 100-yard mark, with four of those wins coming this year. Five players have rushed for 100 yard in a game a combined 14 times this year. PEGUES HEADLINES A RECEIVING CORP THAT WILL LOOK FOR YOUNGER PLAYERS TO STEP UP The wide receiver corps features Walt Pegues, who is perhaps one of the biggest playmakers in the conference. Pegues has racked up more than 2,000 all-purpose yards in his career and showed instant chemistry with Williams. Pegues has a reception in every game he has played in with the Crimson Hawks. Jordan Brown has provided a spark on special teams and will look to step into a larger role offensively this season. Mike Pietropola and Allen Wright will both vie for time this year after spending time on the defensive side of the ball. Pietropola, who initially came to IUP as a quarterback, played a large role on special teams and on defense, at safety. Wright has played in 22 career games with the Crimson Hawks at cornerback. Miles Williamson, Ryan Waltz, Adam Deardorff, Zac Kelly and Dom McNeil will all compete for playing time. SEVERAL TIGHT ENDS SHOW EXPERIENCE AND VERSATILITY IUP returns multiple tight ends who will play a large role in the run-blocking scheme. Kevin Edwards, CJ Jackson, Noah Bertram and Rex Pearce were all important pieces to the IUP offense last season, and while none of them had a breakout year statistically, their value came in the trenches. 5 STARTERS RETURN ON THE OFFENSIVE LINE; THE GROUP FEATURES SEVERAL OTHERS WITH PLAYING EXPERIENCE The IUP offensive line was much improved in 2015 and all indications point to the unit taking yet another step forward in Preseason All-American Ethan Cooper has been a mainstay the last three years. Matt Mowad also returns after battling injuries much of last year. The athletic Mowad returned an interception for a touchdown in the opening game of the 2015 season against Kutztown. Deandre Easterling and Dyllon Scott both played a big role as reserves early on, and then as starters late in the season. Easterling collected 5.0 sacks, which tied for the team lead, while Scott provided depth and finished with 3.0 sacks. Justin Weldon, C.J. Odegbo, Diamond Jones and Qwamere Wright-Downing are also looking for playing time, and they will likely see the field a lot because of the Crimson Hawks tendency to rotate players. 20

21 CLARKE LEADS LINEBACKING GROUP The IUP linebacking unit is not large in number, but it has multiple players who have been integral to the success of the IUP defense over the years. Kevin Clarke, now a senior, is a two-time All-PSAC selection and former all-region pick with more than 200 career tackles. Leading the Crimson Hawks in stops each of the past two seasons, he tallied a career-high 117 in his first year as a starter in 2014, including five games of 10 or more tackles. Myles Catlin earned four starts in 2014 and has played in more than 30 games in his career. Nick Dubowski transitioned to linebacker from the offensive side of the ball last year, and will also lend depth. Zack Weaver will look to take the next step in his maturation process in 2016 and contribute to the defense. DEFENSIVE BACKFIELD COULD BE KEY TO A STRONG YEAR Once again, IUP features another position with depth and experience with its defensive backs. R-Jr. CB Jay Watkins flourished last year, earning all-region honors after finishing in the top 10 nationally with 20 passes defensed (four interceptions, 16 breakups). It was his first full season with IUP, losing all of 2014 and some of 2013 to injuries. Watkins was consistent throughout the season, intercepting or breaking up a pass in 10 of IUP s 12 games. Versatile R-Sr. DB Steve Franco will once again be counted on to make plays all over the field after starting 23 games (12 at free safety, 11 at strong safety) over the last two seasons. He earned All-PSAC West honors last season after finishing second on the team with 65 tackles and three interceptions. R-Sr. Ackeno Robertson has played in 32 career games and enters his third year at IUP s Star position in its alignment. Jr. Takhi Turner started 11 games at free safety as a true freshman in 2014 and hopes to return to that spot this year. So. Mikale Makle made an impact in his first year at IUP in 2015, starting each of the last seven games at the cornerback spot opposite of Watkins. R-Jr. Archibald Kromah and Ronald Womack, Jr. Eric Doe, and R-Fr. Isaiah Stokes and JR Stevens will also see playing time. PLENTY OF KICKING OPTIONS RETURN FOR THE CRIMSON HAWKS IUP returns both starting kickers from last season - Sr. P Jordan Spangler and Sr. PK Ryan Stewart. A former All-PSAC selection, Spangler averaged just under 36 yards per punt last season, but pinned 16 of his 37 punts inside the opponent s 20 yard line. Stewart overcame a rough patch to make 16-of-17 extra points and 6-of-10 field goals (3-for-3 from 40+ yards) over his last four games. Also returning is R-Sr. P Matt Spegal, who entered last season with 97 career punts and a 38.8 yard average, one of the best marks in program history. After gaining experience as IUP s kickoff specialist last year, So. Sean Bowling returns looking for increased responsibilities. SPORTING NEWS PRESEASON POLL RK SCHOOL 1. Northwest Missouri State 2.
