Ohio State has won 12 consecutive games on the road, the longest active streak in the FBS. Ohio State ranks 10th in the NCAA in total offense with yards per game and is tied for fourth in scoring offense at 46.0 ppg. Ohio State s offense racked up 568 total yards at #8 Michigan State last Saturday, nearly 300 more than MSU had allowed per game coming in (279.4). It was the sixth game this season with at least 500 yards of total offense for the Buckeyes. QB J.T. Barrett has been responsible for 34 touchdowns this season, second most in the FBS. Barrett needs two TDs to tie and three to break Braxton Miller s school record of 36 set in Barrett has been responsible for at least four touchdowns in five of nine games this season. RAMIFICATIONS Ohio State controls its fate in the Big Ten East with a one-game lead over Michigan State, a two-game lead over Maryland and with victories over both. Minnesota is in a tie for first in the Big Ten West with Nebraska and Wisconsin and with games in Lincoln and in Madison looming in the next two weeks. Ohio State closes out its regular season schedule with home games against Indiana and Michigan. FIRST MEETING IN FOUR YEARS Neither Urban Meyer nor Minnesota coach Jerry Kill were in their present positions when the Buckeyes and the Golden Gophers last met: four years ago on Oct. 30, 2010 in Minneapolis. Meyer was in his sixth season at Florida in 2010 while Kill was in his third and ultimately final season at Northern Illinois. BUCKEYES HAVE WON 23 OF LAST 24 Ohio State holds an all-time advantage of 42 wins against just seven losses vs. Minnesota. Ohio State has officially won seven consecutive games in this series and 23 of the previous 24 games, dating back to the 1981 season. Ohio State graduate and former assistant coach Glen Mason directed his fifth Minnesota team he coached the Golden Gophers for 10 years, through the 2006 season to a upset of the Buckeyes in Ohio Stadium during the 2001 season for the last Minnesota win in the series. SECOND TIME AT TCF BANK STADIUM It was a cold night in 2010 kickoff temps were in the low 40s when Ohio State played its first and so far only game in TCF Bank Stadium. The Buckeyes rolled to a victory that night but the win was later vacated. This is the first meeting of the two on the gridiron since and the 51st meeting all-time. A LOOK AT THE GOPHERS Minnesota is enjoying a fine season at 7-2 overall and in a three-way tie for first place with Nebraska and Wisconsin in the Big Ten West at 4-1. Minnesota s only two losses this season have come on the road at TCU (30-7) Sept. 13 and three weeks ago at Illinois Oct. 25. They are coming off an impressive home win over Iowa last Saturday. The Gophers are led offensively by senior running back David Cobb, who ranks fourth in the Big Ten with yards per game on the ground with eight TDs. Sophomore QB Mitch Leidner is fourth in the Big Ten in passer efficiency (134.8) while TE Maxx Williams leads the Gophers with 22 catches for 326 yards and seven TDs. Defensively, the Gophers are second in the Big Ten with 12 interceptions and are second in turnover margin (+8). Their leading tackler is Damien Wilson, who is second in the Big Ten with 88 tackles. He also has 8.0 TFL, 2.0 sacks and one INT on the year. Jerry Kill is in his fourth season in Minneapolis with a record. The past two seasons he has led the Gophers to the Texas Bowl. Before arriving at Minnesota, Kill had coaching stops at NIU ( ), Southern Illinois ( ), Emporia State ( ) and Saginaw Valley State ( ). HOME AND AWAY Ohio State has a 20-4 record vs. Minnesota in games played in Minneapolis and a 22-3 mark in Columbus. Ohio State has won 11 consecutive games at Minnesota, dating to a Golden Gopher win in the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in FIRST COACHING MEETING Minnesota s Jerry Kill will represent the 96th different head coach that Urban Meyer has game-planned against. Meyer is in first-time coaching matchups. RETURN VISITS Minnesota and Ohio State will meet in the regular season twice in the next four years with both games at Ohio Stadium: Nov. 7 next season and Oct. 13,

3 BIG TEN RECORD STREAK Ohio State s victory over No. 8 Michigan State in East Lansing Saturday established a Big Ten Conference record for regular season wins for the Scarlet and Gray with 21. Ohio State s last conference loss regular season games only was at Michigan on Nov. 26, 2011, Michigan State was on a 13-game Big Ten streak prior to Saturday night. CURRENT WIN STREAK NO. 5 Ohio State s current seven-game winning streak is the fifth-longest winning streak in the nation. The only schools ahead of Ohio State with longer winning streaks are Florida State (25), Mississippi State (12), Marshall (10) and Colorado State (eight). No. 14 OHIO STATE 49, No. 8 MICHIGAN ST. 37 Led by the leadership of J.T. Barrett, the running of Ezekiel Elliott, the blocking of an improving, albeit young, offensive line, the athleticism of a handful of receivers and a defense that is good and getting better every game, Ohio State went into East Lansing and defeated the defending Big Ten champions, 49-37, for a seventh consecutive win. Ohio State had 568 yards against one of the nation s No. 5 defenses, a total that was nearly 300 more yards than what the Spartans had been allowing per game (279.4). Ohio State s defense did not allow back-toback scoring drives by a fine Spartan offense until the OSU offense had pulled out to a lead. And by then, it was too late to mount a serious comeback. The game marked the first time Ohio State had players with at least 300 passing yards, 100 rushing yards and 100 receiving yards in the same game in nearly eight years -- Nov. 18, 2006 vs. Michigan. WAS JUST TERRIFIC J.T. Barrett was just terrific against the nation s fifth-rated total defense. He completed 16 of 26 passing attempts for 300 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions, plus he rushed for 86 yards and two more touchdowns. Down 14-7 and after an exchange of punts, Barrett directed the Buckeyes on six consecutive touchdown drives, including throwing TD passes of 79 yards to Michael Thomas, 44 yards to Devin Smith and 7 yards to Dontre Wilson. Barrett had scored the Buckeyes first two touchdowns on 5- and 1-yard runs. He also had a huge, 55-yard run in the fourth quarter that led to an Ezekiel Elliott TD from 17-yards out that gave the Buckeyes an insurmountable advantage. 12 PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARDS J.T. Barrett s efforts vs. the Spartans has earned him four awards so far: Athlon s has named him its national player of the week and its national freshman of the week, and the Big Ten Conference honored Barrett as its offensive and freshman player of the week awards. Barrett has now been honored for a weekly award by the Big Ten or nationally after six of his nine starts this season. He has been the Big Ten s freshman of the week five times; its offensive player of the week three times. And he has been a national freshman of the week twice and a national player of the week twice. Barrett had lots of offensive help vs. Michigan State. Ezekiel Elliott did his share of heavy lifting with 154-yards rushing and two scores against the nation s sixth-rated run defense. The Spartans were allowing just 95 rushing yards per game, but Ohio State powered, bulled and sped to 268 rushing yards and a 6.5 yards per carry average. Devin Smith (six receptions for 139 yards) and Michael Thomas (three for 91, respectively) had huge days and spectacular receiving plays. Smith had an over-the-shoulder reception for 43 yards on a third-and-23 play, setting up a TD that tied the score at 14-all. Thomas, who simply refuses to be tackled by one man, had a 79-yard catch-and-run to tie the score at 21-all, part of his three-catch, 91-yard evening. MORE & MORE THAN OREGON Two rather compelling notes from the game: 1) Ohio State s offense did not have a three-and-out (the team punted only twice); and 2) the yards and points scored totals were more than Oregon managed against MSU in Week 2 at Oregon s Autzen Stadium (491 and 46, respectively). DORAN GRANT: TEAM S DEFENSIVE PoG Doran Grant was a standout with six tackles vs. Michigan State all the while shadowing the Big Ten s number one receiver in terms of yards per game - Tony Lippett - and holding him to 5 catches for 64 yards (47 yards below his average). Grant also had two pass break-ups and was named the team s defensive player of the game. BIG GAME FOR BENNETT Michael Bennett was a physical force from his defensive tackle position against an outstanding Michigan State offense. He totalled four unassisted tackles, including one sack of Connor Cook for a loss of six yards and an additional TFL for minus-5 yards, giving him two TFLs for minus-11 yards. Bennett also forced a fumble and had a pass break-up in the Buckeyes big win. Joshua Perry (nine tackles) and Vonn Bell (seven) led the team in stops. Adolphus Washington tied his personal best with six tackles, including a TFL, plus he had a forced fumble and a quarterback hurry. FOUR OFFENSIVE PoGs Ohio State coaches awarded four with players of the game honors after the Michigan State game: center Jacoby Boren, quarterback J.T. Barnett, running back Ezekiel Elliott and receiver Devin Smith. Receiver Evan Spencer was perfect on special teams, including making a tackle on a kickoff and forcing a penalty on a kickoff, and he earned the special team s player of the game honor. NO. 1 IN FIELD POSITION Ohio State continues to lead the nation in average starting field position. The team is No. 1 in its own starting field position (39 yard line), No. 2 nationally in opponents starting position (25) and No. 1 in the difference (14 yards). No other team has even a 10-yard difference. THE PLAN IS TO WIN Ohio State has better than a 90-percent winning rate under Urban Meyer. BUCKS DEFENSE CONTINUES ITS CLIMB Ohio State is 17th nationally in total defense with yards per game allowed. The Buckeyes are 24th in pass efficiency, 21st in rushing defense (125.2) and 25th in scoring defense (21.8). BIG TEN DEFENSES RANK Eight Big Ten Conference teams are among the nation s Top 25 in terms of total defense, including four teams in the Top 10. Barrett is nearing three significant Ohio State single season records: Troy Smith s mark for touchdown passes in a season of 30, set in 2006 (Barrett has 26), Braxton Miller s two-year-old mark for total offense of 3,310 yards (Barrett has 2,738 yards) and Miller s 36 TDs accounted for last season (Barrett has 34). Barrett s season to date has also included these memorable notes and statistics: He leads the Big Ten in passing efficiency and total offense; He has accounted for 30 touchdowns during Ohio State s seven-game winning streak, including 25 passing TDs; He has completed at least 70 percent of his passes in four games. ELLIOTT NEARS 1,000 YARDS Ezekiel Elliott has had two of his best games against two of the best rush defenses in the country. Saturday against Penn State he averaged 6.5 yards per carry in an impressive 154-yard game against Michigan State that included two touchdown runs. Michigan State came into the game No. 6 nationally in rush defense. This comes two weeks after a 109-yard game against Penn State s No. 1-ranked run defense. He averaged 4.2 per carry and scored the first touchdown of the game from 10-yards out. Bosa had 2.5 sacks on the day and six total tackles. TWO PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS A walk-off sack, plus 1.5 additional sacks and six total tackles netted Joey Bosa the B1G defensive player of the week honor as well as Athlon s national defensive player of the week award following the Penn State game. 18 TACKLES FOR PERRY Joshua Perry registered a personal-best and a team-season high 18 tackles vs. the Nittany Lions. 7 FROM THE LAND DOWN UNDER He doesn t have enough punts to qualify for national rankings, but Australian punter Cameron Johnston has been outstanding in his limited playing time for the Buckeyes this season. Most recently, he kept Penn State backed up near its goal line with a 45-yard average off six punts with four of them dropped inside the 20 and two of those inside the 10. Penn State was forced to punt on all four of its possessions that started I20 from a Johnston punt. Johnston punted twice vs. Michigan State, with both being downed on the 7 yard line. Nine of his 22 punts this season have been downed inside the 10. He has helped Ohio State to a No. 2 ranking in the Big Ten in net punting (39.8) and he is third in the Big Ten at 43.4 yards per punt. NUERNBERGER TOPS IN SCORING Freshman kicker Sean Neuernberger leads the Big Ten Conference in kick scoring with 82 points and 9.1 points per game. Nuernberger is perfect on 55 extra point tries and he has connected on 9-of-14 field goal attempts. FOURTH 300 & 300 GAME Ohio State had 380 rushing yards and 330 passing yards vs. Cincinnati. Barrett was spreading the ball all over the field in the 66-0 win over the Golden Flashes Sept. 13, hitting 11 different receivers and tying a school record with six TD passes in the win. It marked the first time in 25 years an Ohio State QB hit 11 different receivers in a game. BUCKEYES IN THE POLLS Ohio State is ranked No. 8 in the Associated Press and No. 7 in the Coaches Top 25 polls. They are 8th in the latest College Football Playoff poll, released each Tuesday evening. Since the start of the 2002 season, Ohio State has been ranked in the AP Top 10 more times than any other school (152). Oklahoma (129) and LSU (128) are second and third, respectively. The Buckeyes, who have been ranked by the AP Top 25 more times (832) than any other school, appeared in the AP preseason poll for the 26th consecutive season this year, the longest streak in the nation. It also marked the 47th consecutive season Ohio State has appeared in the AP poll, tying Alabama for the longest active streak. YARDS TO REPLACE With the preseason injury to senior QB Braxton Miller, Ohio State entered the 2014 season without more than 3,100 yards of total offense from its 2013 squad, on top of losing top playmakers Carlos Hyde (1,521 yards rushing) and Corey Philly Brown (771 yards receiving). But as the Buckeyes have shown this season, they will replace those yards by committee with several talented players to spread the ball around to. The Buckeyes returned just 11 percent of its total offense from a year ago heading into this season, the leading men being sophomore RB Ezekiel Elliott 8

Bradley Roby (Punt vs. Indiana) Jeff Greene (Punt vs. KSU) BENNETT A SENIOR CLASS CANDIDATE Senior co-captain Michael Bennett has been named one of 30 candidates for the 2014 Senior CLASS Award in college football. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I FBS senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence community, classroom, character and competition. Bennett, a Centerville, Ohio, native, is a force as an interior defensive lineman, a team-leader off the field and is the son of parents who each graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Off the field, Bennett goes above and beyond in the community, participating in a variety of community service projects. In the past year, Bennett and his teammates have volunteered their time at the Mid-Ohio Food Bank and paid a visit to campers at King Arts Complex in Columbus, reading, playing and interacting with local kids. Bennett also has attended the Columbus Special Olympics, taking part in the opening ceremonies and cheering kids on during competition and has been involved with the 2nd and 7 Foundation, which promotes reading by providing free books and positive role models to kids in need. Last summer, Bennett and his teammates helped rebuild the playgrounds at Graham Expeditionary Middle School in Columbus and also visited sick kids at Columbus Children s Hospital. A BIGGER, BETTER, BRIGHTER OHIO STADIUM Capacity at Ohio Stadium has risen to 104,944 from 102,329, meaning attendance figures can expect to reach over 108,000-plus this season. An $8.9 million project at Ohio Stadium added 2,615 seats near the south stands stadium tunnels. The project included a new players tunnel and it also added rows of permanent MUSCO sports lighting atop the stadium s east wall and above the press box. Upon completion, the south stands will hold just over 19,300 students (an additional 9,000 students will continue to have seats in the north end of the stadium). 92nd YEAR IN OHIO STADIUM Ohio Stadium, grand and venerable and registered on the National Register of Historic Places, is hosting its 92nd football season in Ohio Stadium is endearingly nicknamed the Horseshoe or the Shoe because of its open south end. Miller, who was not hit on the play, was in the process of returning from off-season surgery in February for an injury sustained in the 2014 Discover Orange Bowl. I love Ohio State and Buckeye nation, and my goal is to come back from this injury stronger and better than ever, Miller said. I am on course to graduate in December and I want to attend graduate school, and then return to lead the Buckeyes next season. In the meantime, I want to give all the support I can to my coaches and teammates as they chase a championship this season. Miller, who has yet to take a red-shirt season, entered his senior season with 5,292 career passing yards and 3,054 rushing yards to rank ninth and eighth, respectively, in school history and with the prospects of holding close to 20 school records. His 8,346 total yards and 84 touchdowns responsible for are each second in school annals. His 52 touchdown passes are fourth at Ohio State and just six from the school record. Miller, 26-8 as a starting quarterback, also entered his senior season as a viable contender for all of the major national awards. His seven Big Ten Conference individual awards, including consecutive Chicago Tribune MVPs, Griese-Brees Quarterback of the Year awards and Graham-George Offensive Player of the Year awards, are the most in conference history. 26 GAME 1 RECAP: NAVY No. 5/6 Ohio State opens with win over Navy Barrett passes for 226 yards and two TDs in his first collegiate game BALTIMORE -- Redshirt freshman J.T. Barrett threw for 226 yards and two touchdowns in his college debut, and No. 5 Ohio State beat Navy Saturday for its 25th consecutive regular-season victory. Elevated into a starting role after senior Braxton Miller injured his right shoulder on Aug. 18, Barrett went 12 for 15 - including an 80-yard TD pass to Devin Smith that put the Buckeyes up with 4:10 left in the third quarter. Ohio State (1-0) won despite allowing Navy (0-1) to gain 370 yards on the ground, including 118 by Ryan Williams-Jenkins. Barrett became the second freshman since 1950 to start a season opener at quarterback for Ohio State. He ran nine times for 50 yards, did not throw downfield often and relied heavily on a ground game that finally wore down the Midshipmen in the fourth quarter. After Navy closed to with 13:54 remaining, the Buckeyes launched a 10-play drive that featured just one pass. Ezekiel Elliott converted a fourthand-1 from the Navy 45 and Barrett threw a 19-yard completion before Elliott ran in from the 10. Barrett s 9-yard touchdown pass to Mike Thomas made it with 2:09 left. Navy held a 7-6 lead and was driving on the opening series of the second half when Joey Bosa hit Keenan Reynolds as the quarterback was tossing a pitch to Demond Brown. The ball went awry, and Darron Lee took it 61 yards the other way for a touchdown. The Midshipmen responded immediately. Williams-Jenkins ran 67 yards to the Ohio State 17, and Reynolds scored from the 1 to put Navy up That gave Reynolds a touchdown in nine straight games, tying the school record. Ohio State then turned the ball over on downs, when Elliott was stuck for a 2-yard loss on fourth down from the Navy 45. But the momentum turned when Smith got behind the Navy defense on the right side, broke a tackle and scored on the longest touchdown against the Midshipmen since an 87-yarder by Tulane in November Navy drove to the Ohio State 18 on the final possession of the first half before Nick Sloan missed a 36-yard field goal, keeping the Buckeyes deficit at 7-6. Throwing mostly short, safe passes, Barrett went 8 for 11 for 96 yards and an interception before halftime. Barrett s first play at Ohio State was a pass completion for 14 yards. Although he appeared comfortable in the no-huddle offense, the Buckeyes quickly punted. Ohio State s next possession began with four straight runs, followed by a sack. A shovel pass on a third-and-21 gained 16 yards to set up a 46-yard field goal by freshman Sean Nuernberger. Redshirt freshman linebacker Darron Lee returned a fumble 61 yards for Ohio State s first score. Navy answered with an 11-play drive, 10 of them runs, capped by a 1-yard touchdown sweep by DeBrandon Sanders. Midway through the second quarter, Barrett went 4 for 4 for 54 yards to bring the Buckeyes to the Navy 8. But he hurried a first-down pass and was intercepted by Parrish Gaines. Barrett s inexperience showed again on the next series, when Ohio State had to settle for a field goal. On a third-and-2 from the Navy 4, Barrett rolled right and pitched too late to Elliott, who was smothered for a 7-yard loss. 27 GAME 2 RECAP: VIRGINIA TECH No. 7/8 Ohio State falls to Virginia Tech, Buckeyes suffer first home-opening loss since 1978 COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State rallied from a 14-point deficit to tie the game in the fourth quarter, but ultimately were unable to pull out the comefrom-behind win as Virginia Tech came away with the win at Ohio Stadium -- snapping Ohio State s 35-game home-opener win streak. VT s Michael Brewer passed for two touchdowns and Virginia Tech s defense stood tough at the end. Keyshoen Jarrett had two interceptions and Donovan Riley returned another 63 yards for a TD in the final minute before a record crowd of 107,517 at enlarged Ohio Stadium. Brewer led the Hokies (2-0) to a 21-7 lead at the half. After his fumble led to the Buckeyes (1-1) pulling even on Ezekiel Elliott s 15-yard run early in the fourth quarter, he led a 65-yard drive capped by a 10-yard scoring pass to Bucky Hodges with 8:44 left. Ohio State s J.T. Barrett was 9-of-29 for 219 yards and a touchdown with three interceptions. He led all rushers with 70 yards on 24 carries. It was Ohio State s third loss in its last four games after a school-record 24-game winning streak. It s not the last game of the season, Ohio State tight end Jeff Heuerman said. 28 GAME 3 RECAP: KENT STATE No. 18/22 Ohio State shuts out Kent State, 66-0 Barrett ties a school record with six TD passes COLUMBUS, Ohio -- J.T. Barrett matched a school record with six touchdown passes - five in the first half - to lead the 22nd-ranked Buckeyes to a 66-0 victory over Kent State on Saturday. The win was the 39th in a row over an in-state opponent for the Buckeyes (2-1), who haven t lost since a 7-6 setback to Oberlin in Curtis Samuel ran for two touchdowns and Smith ran for one and also caught a TD pass for the Buckeyes, who totaled 628 yards of offense while limiting Kent State to 126. 29 GAME 4 RECAP: CINCINNATI Barrett, Elliott Lead #20 Buckeyes Past Cincinnati, QB accounts for more than 400 yards of total offense COLUMBUS, Ohio -- J.T. Barrett passed for 330 yards and four touchdowns and Ezekiel Elliott ran for 182 yards and a score to lead No. 22 Ohio State past Gunner Kiel and Cincinnati on Saturday night. Kiel completed 21 of 32 passes for 352 yards and four scores for the Bearcats (2-1) in a game of wild momentum swings before a stadium-record crowd of 108,362. The Buckeyes (3-1), who won their 40th consecutive game over an in-state opponent, totaled 710 yards. But their defense couldn t stop the Bearcats, who had wide-out Chris Moore catch three passes for 221 yards and three TDs. Not until Barrett hit Devin Smith with a 29-yard scoring pass early in the fourth quarter was it clear the Buckeyes would survive. The score made it A freshman who took over after two-time Big Ten offensive player of the year Braxton Miller was lost for the season after shoulder surgery, Barrett hit on 26 of 36 passes and also ran for 79 yards on 14 carries. It was the first time Ohio State had topped 700 yards in offense since totaling 715 against Utah on Aug. 27, The Buckeyes picked up field goals of 25 and 42 yards by Sean Nuernberger on the first two touches of the second half. Down 36-28, Cincinnati had a chance to pull even on its next possession but Johnny Holton was called for offensive pass interference. The Bearcats were forced to punt, and that proved to be the last opportunity for the visitors to catch up. With Elliott and Rod Smith doing most of the damage on the ground, the Buckeyes came right back to cover 62 yards in six plays to push the lead to before Barrett s final TD pass put it out of reach. The Buckeyes led at the half, but neither coach Urban Meyer nor Cincinnati s Tommy Tuberville could have been happy in the locker room. Coming in, Tuberville was 2-0 against Meyer when both were bumping heads in the SEC, Tuberville at Auburn and Meyer at Florida. The Bearcats scored stunning TDs on their first and last possessions of the half. The first covered 60 yards from Kiel to Moore on the fourth play from scrimmage and the last was an 83-yard bomb that Kiel lofted to Moore, who was running clear on a post pattern. 30 GAME 5 RECAP: AT MARYLAND No. 18/20 Ohio State Downs Maryland, Barrett tosses 4 TD passes; defense holds Terps to more than 100 yards below season average COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The 20th-ranked Buckeyes spoiled Maryland s first home game as a member of the Big Ten. Freshman QB J.T. Barrett threw for 267 yards with four touchdowns and ran for 71 yards and a score while RB Ezekiel Elliott finished with 139 yards on the ground in the win. Ohio State s defense was just as dominat, holding the Terrapins to more than 100 yards below their season average and intercepting four Maryland passes. Sophomore Joey Bosa led the way with 2.5 TFL and 1.0 sack. The Buckeyes (4-1, 1-0) scored on drives lasting 3:01, 3:27, 1:18, 1:46 and 0:05 to take a halftime lead and hush the first sellout crowd at College Park in nearly six years. Ohio State has scored 168 points in three wins since losing to Virginia Tech, a stumble that now seems so distant. The Buckeyes might have never played Maryland before, but they marched up and down the field as if they owned the place. The Terrapins (4-2, 1-1) had an impressive Big Ten debut win on the road the previous week at Indiana, but their top highlight Saturday was a school-record 57-yard field goal by Brad Craddock. C.J. Brown started for Maryland despite leaving the Indiana victory with a sprained left wrist. He played the first half and was ineffective and often under pressure, completing 11 of 18 passes for 71 yards with three sacks. He also threw an interception deep in Terrapins territory late in the half. For the second half, Edsall turned to Caleb Rowe. The coach said the move wasn t injury-related and that he was going with a more traditional drop-back quarterback because he wanted to throw the ball more. Edsall said Brown made some poor decisions but added: C.J. s our quarterback. The change mattered little to the outcome. The Buckeyes went back to work making the Terrapins look like, well, terrapins. An 80-yard drive needed only four plays and 1:27 before Barrett hit Devin Smith for a 30-yard down-the-middle strike to make it a four-touchdown lead. I m focusing on getting the offense better every week and keeping this thing rolling, Barrett said after carrying seven times while scoring on runs of 33 and 5 yards and completing 19 of 31 passes for 261 yards without an interception before departing midway through the fourth quarter. The Buckeyes (5-1, 2-0 Big Ten) have averaged 56 points in a four-game win streak since losing at home to Virginia Tech on Sept. 6. They ve made a steady move up the rankings since. Barrett -- a preseason sub for injured three-year starter Braxton Miller -- continues to put up remarkable numbers in his first year of college competition. The victory was Ohio State s 18th in a row in the Big Ten, drawing within two of tying the conference mark set by the Buckeyes. The Buckeyes -- averaging 614 yards per game over their win streak -- amassed 585 total yards. They scored on their first three possessions -- with Barrett going 8-for-8 passing -- and the outcome was never really in doubt again. He hit Nick Vannett on scoring tosses of 12 and 31 yards, the latter on a perfect lead pass over the middle before the backup tight end lumbered to the end zone. 32 GAME 7 RECAP: AT PENN STATE No. 12 Ohio State Tops Penn State, 31-24, in 2OT Barrett runs for two TDs in OTs; Bosa finishes with 2.5 sacks STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Joey Bosa s Ohio State s teammates had to tell the defensive tackle that he d just finished off Penn State with a sack in the second overtime. The sack on a fourth-and-5 play gave the No. 13 Buckeyes a victory Saturday night. Bosa was the last to know. I was so tired I didn t even know it was a sack, said Bosa, who had 2 1/2 sacks and finished with six tackles. The guys started hugging me and I just went to the ground. This might have been a double-overtime win, but it doesn t make it any less important, winning in a crazy environment like this. Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett had two touchdown runs in overtime after Penn State overcame a 17-0 deficit to tie it. The Buckeyes (6-1, 3-0 Big Ten) built a 17-0 lead and were cruising when Penn State defensive tackle Anthony Zettel intercepted Barrett s pass and returned it 40 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter. Christian Hackenberg threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Saeed Blacknall early in the fourth, and Penn State (4-3, 1-3) tied it on Sam Ficken s 31-yard field goal with 9 seconds left. 33 GAME 8 RECAP: ILLINOIS #16 Buckeyes Cruise Past Illinois, Victory is the 20th consecutive Big Ten regular season win, tying the Big Ten record COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State took care of business by pounding Illinois on Saturday night. Now the Buckeyes can finally talk about the game of the year in the Big Ten next week at Michigan State. The Spartans ended a 24-game Ohio State win streak with a victory in last year s conference title game. Curtis Samuel ran for two touchdowns and J.T. Barrett hit Devin Smith on two scoring passes - all in the first half - as the Buckeyes put first things first in the easy win over the Illini. It extended their Big Ten win streak to a recordtying 20. The Buckeyes (7-1, 4-0, No. 16 CFP) won their sixth in a row - five by lopsided scores. 34 GAME 9 RECAP: AT #8 MICHIGAN STATE No. 14 Ohio State Scores Statement Win at No. 8 MSU Barrett accounts for 5 TDs, throws for 300 yards and rushes for two more in the victory EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Now it s Ohio State s turn to lobby for a berth in the college football playoff -- a thought that seemed pretty far-fetched when the Buckeyes lost their quarterback and struggled through the first couple weeks of the season. With J.T. Barrett performing brilliantly in place of an injured Braxton Miller, there s no longer any doubt who the Big Ten s top contender is in the national title race. Barrett threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more in a sensational performance, and No. 14 Ohio State scored almost at will against Michigan State s vaunted defense, beating the eighth-ranked Spartans on Saturday night. With one overwhelming offensive display, the Buckeyes re-established themselves as the Big Ten s dominant team under coach Urban Meyer, avenged their loss to Michigan State in last year s conference title game, and boosted their case for a berth in the sport s new four-team playoff. This is one for the ages, said Meyer, in his third year as Ohio State s coach. That s how much respect we had for our opponent going into it. We saw what they did. They had one loss and they were actually winning that one game until it kind of got away from them somehow at Oregon. We played a top-10 team and really played our best on the road. Ohio State (8-1, 5-0) came into the game ranked No. 14 by the playoff committee. The Spartans (7-2, 4-1) were No. 8 and looked like the conference s best hope to reach the playoff, but now they ll almost surely drop out of consideration. Barrett became the starting quarterback for the Buckeyes before the season because Miller needed shoulder surgery, and Ohio State lost at home to Virginia Tech in early September. The Buckeyes have won seven straight since. Barrett went 16-of-26 for 300 yards against the Spartans. Ohio State s first drive of the game ended in a missed field goal, and another early possession fell apart because of penalties. Aside from that, the Buckeyes scored a touchdown every time they had the ball until they punted in the final minute of the game. Ohio State rolled up 568 yards of offense against a Michigan State defense that was one of the nation s best a year ago and had been plenty good this season as well. We definitely had something to prove, running back Ezekiel Elliott said. People were questioning our ability to come out and play on the big stage. Just coming into this game, no one believed in us. It was by any measure one of the biggest home games in Michigan State history, but Barrett and the Buckeyes turned it into a scarlet-and-gray party, overcoming a pair of first-half turnovers on special teams and taking a lead into halftime. When the Spartans had to settle for a field goal to start the third quarter, that was the opening Ohio State needed.
