Coastal Carolina IN THE NATIONAL POLLS NSCAA 17 Soccer America 15 Top Drawer Soccer 24 College Soccer News 12 Soccer Times 11 Shoot, Score and Repeat Coastal Carolina leads the NCAA in scoring with a whopping 60 goals this season (11 more than their closest competitor), compared to only a 29 goal output from last season s NCAA qualifying team. The Chanticleers also lead the nation with 3.0 goals per game -.33 better than Old Dominion s 2.67 scoring average. Chanticleers Sweep Big South Awards Head coach Shaun Docking was named Big South Coach of the Year, Ashton Bennett received Attacking Player of the Year, the Defensive Player of the Year went to Cyprian Hedrick and Kjartan Sigurdsson was named Freshman of the Year. Joining Bennett, Hedrick and Sigurdsson on the first team were Pedro Ribeiro, Luis Faz, Justin Portillo and Scott Angevine. In addition to Sigurdsson, Ricky Garbanzo and Henrik Robstad were named to the All-Freshman team. Hedrick was also named to the Big South All-Academic Team. Bennett On The Attack Ashton Bennett, a National Player of the Year and All-American candidate, leads the NCAA with 21 goals this season. His closest competitor, Memphis Mark Sherrod has 18. Bennett also ranks second in the country with 1.05 goal per game Bennett has garnered national attention for his play this year earning Top Drawer Soccer National Player of the Week, three Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week and two College Soccer News National Team of the Week honors. Angevine - A Stalwart in Goal Goalkeeper Scott Angevine ranks 32nd in the NCAA with a stellar.835 goal against average. The Chanticleers are hosting the NCAA Tournament for the second time in school history. Coastal previously hosted Davidson in the 2003 tournament winning the game 3-0. Coastal is all-time in the NCAA Tournament, advancing as far as the Sweet 16 in Elon won the SoCon Tournament title to earn a NCAA Tournament berth for the first time in program history. The winner of the match will advance to take on North Carolina, the tournament s top seed, on Sunday, Nov. 20, at Fetzer Field in Chapel Hill.
