With the victory, the Mids pushed their winning streak to 14 games, dating back to the start of the 2004 season. Navy has also won 31-consecutive season openers and 10-straight against non- CSFL teams. Making his first-collegiate start, senior quarterback Chris Marsh (New Alexandria, Pa.) accounted for 230 yards on 11-of-17 passing in the win. Marsh also ran for a pair of one-yard touchdown runs. After Johns Hopkins received the ball first and scored on a 14-play, 69-yard drive to open the game, Navy answered back with 28 unanswered points over the next-two quarters to put the game away. Five different receivers caught a pass from Marsh in the game. Junior running back Richard Engel (Medford, N.J.) ran for 70 yards on 11 carries, including a 39-yard scamper to set up Navy s first touchdown. However, the Midshipmen ground game could only muster 112 yards on 43 rushing attempts (2.6 ypc) and fumbled four times, losing three of them. Senior linebacker Ryan Engle (Reed City, Mich.) led the way with 14 tackles, two of which came in the backfield, including a sack. Sophomore Brian Smith (Gainesville, Fla.) contributed with nine tackles and a sack, while classmate Andrew Wright (Baltimore, Md.) made eight stops and batted away two passes in his first-collegiate game.
