2 2016 MALA Youth Lacrosse Rules Sheet Game Administration NO horns at U13 & U15. Sideline horns will be permitted at U9 & U11. All game balls must have Meets NOCSAE Standard on them. Officials payments will be split between HOME and VISITING teams. Must have a scorebook Balls on the end line, sideline and scorer s tables Provide scorekeeper, timekeeper Provide working clock(s) and horn Cones on the corners, far center line, near sub box

3 2016 MALA Youth Lacrosse Rules Sheet Penalties Slashing (Rule 5.7): Swinging a crosse at an opponent's crosse or body with deliberate viciousness or reckless abandon, regardless of whether the opponent's crosse or body is struck will be called a slash. At youth level, Any one-handed check, regardless of contact, will be a SLASH. 4 personal fouls or 5 total minutes of personal foul penalty time = foul out. 3 yard rule for contact. (Checking at U13/U15 ONLY, Pushing at all ages)

6 New for 2016 Over and Back U13/U15 AFTER 10 second offensive count met, over and back is called if ball goes back to the defensive half. EXCEPTIONS: Touch by defense Shot Rule New for 2016!

7 Common Misconceptions Must play the ball (loose ball) Better to use man/ball technique (pushing only at U9/U11, checking ok at U13/U15) Can t play while on the ground Player on ground CAN play, but probably should get up first. Can t CHECK a player on the ground.

8 U9 Time: 12 minute running quarters (No OT) 7 on 7 with modified field dimensions Pushing allowed, but NO Body Checking of any kind. Offending player must leave field for full penalty time, but no man advantage for play. All sticks will be between inches. Counts: Only 4 second goalie count. Any one handed check will be a SLASH. No faceoff if team is down by 6+ goals. Referee Fees: $45 total for 1 referee

9 U11 Time: 8 minute stop or 12 minute running quarters (NO OT). Full field 10 v 10. Counts: Only 4 second goalie count. Pushing allowed, but NO Body Checking of any kind Any one handed check will be a SLASH No longsticks. All sticks are to be between inches (MALA rule). No faceoff if team is down by 6+ goals Referee Fees: $90 total for 2 referees ($45/ref). If only one referee is present, $70 is due him/her.
