1 OGLA 2012 Home Team Handbook This handbook is not intended to replace the US Lacrosse Rulebook or OGLA Manual. All game rules are determined by US Lacrosse. This is meant to be a helpful tool for teams and team managers.

3 COACHES Before the Game TEAM MANAGER PLAYERS Check the goal nets and fix any holes Supervise team warm up Briefly talk with umpires. Share any information about your pre-game routines (announcements/national anthem, senior night, etc). Share any field concerns. Make sure your lineup is listed correctly in the official stat book Only certified coaches (listed and certifications checked in Sportability) can be on the field and sidelines during games. Set up cones around the field (4 corners of field; sides of substitution area; both restraining lines on both sides of the field--10 cones total) Set up a table (across field from spectators), 4 chairs or a bench, and pop up tent at least 4 meters away from the field at the 50 yard line. 2 chairs are for your team. 2 chairs are for the other team. Under the tent, the home team has 1 timekeeper and 2 stat keepers. The away team can have 2 stat keepers under the tent or keep them from the stands (not sidelines). Make sure the lineup is listed in the stat book at least 10 minutes prior to game Share your roster with the opposing teams stat keepers Set out air horn, timers, stat book, pencils, ice, and first aid kit at the scorers table. If you have an announcer, make sure they have both teams rosters Check with the umpires about how long half time will be and their preferences about counting down/ calling out Set 2 clean game balls at the table. Set 2 more directly behind each goal (base of field goal posts). If your team uses a scoreboard run from a press box, make sure walkietalkies are charged and placed at both the table and the press box. These are REQUIRED for communication if official time is kept on the digital scoreboard and the controls are not at the field-side table. Arrive for warm up at scheduled time. Make sure uniform is correct. Make sure layers are UNDER uniform and coordinate with team colors. Remove ALL jewelry. Goalie must wear her jersey OVER her chest protector. Mouthguards must cover upper molar teeth--not just front teeth. Any protruding pieces must be cut off. Check to make sure your stick pocket is legal.

4 During the Game COACHES Monitor decorum of your crowd and your players (you or a delegate selected by you must address any sportsmanship issues) Address umpires politely (only during halftime or timeouts) Remind players to substitute ONLY through the substitution area Make sure your players are out for 2 minutes on a yellow card Do not send a player back in if they ve received a red or two yellow cards Remember that your team must play down on both defense and offense when someone is out with a yellow card If your team has received 3 yellow cards, make sure you continue to be a player down for the rest of the game SCOREBOOK/ TIME KEEPERS Keep official score (home team stat book is the official game record) Keep statistics: goals, assists, yellow/red cards, and goalie saves are required. Draw controls, SOG, ground balls, and caused turnovers are highly encouraged. Keep time: 25 minute halves (JV halftime is 5 min/varsity halftime is up to 10 minutes). Call out 2 min/1 min/30 seconds. Count out last 10 seconds, including zero. Varsity time: stop clock on umpire s arm signal/whistle after each goal; stop clock on each whistle in the last 2 min. of each half unless there s a 10 goal differential. JV time: run clock after goals; stop clock on each whistle in the last 2 min. of each half unless there s a 10 goal differential. Always stop clock for an umpire timeout or team-called timeout. Time yellow cards (record times in book). Each player should be out for 2 minutes on a card. If they receive 2 yellow cards or a red card, they cannot return to the game. Notify umpire if this happens. Notify coach when a penalty time is up and player can return Make sure all time/stat keepers remain 4 meters away from the field and within the substitution area. You may also need to remind excited teams/coaches that they also must remain 4 meters away from the field. Record and time timeouts: 2 per team per game; 2 minutes long Let clock run at 10 goal differentials (notify umpire) PLAYERS Substitute only through the substitution area. Do not block the score table when you re waiting. Check in by saying your jersey # to the table before you take the field. When on the field, keep goggles on and mouthguard in at all times--including during stopped whistles. Direct any questions to your coach during timeouts or halftime. Stand on the whistle. Move as directed by umpires (4 meters to side or behind).

Stat/Scorekeepers: make sure the home team s book has been signed by the umpires and that they note the official score in the book Oversee field clean up Report game score in Sportability by 10 PM that night Report red cards (both in Sportability and in an to OGLA) by 10 PM that night Report all game stats by 10 AM the following day Cheer for opposing team Shake hands with opposing team Captains thank the umpires

6 Detailed Scorer and Timer Responsibilities Scorer (Home Table) 1) Record starting players in scorebook 10 minutes prior to game start 2) Have roster with names and numbers for both teams prior to game start a) Make sure numbers correspond with players on field 3) Record who scored goal 4) Display visible score 5) Notify umpire of 10 goal differential 6) Record substitutions a) Do not allow a player to enter the game who is not recorded in book or has an incorrect number listed b) Tell official on next stoppage of play of illegal substitution 7) Record Cards and time of each [player #; time received (19:52); time may return (17:52) a) Players must sit out 2 minutes in team bench area i) No substitution for that player. Substitutions for other players are OK. ii) Team plays short for 2 min per each carded player (man down on both D and A) iii) Do not allow offending player to re-enter the game prior to end of 2 min. [Yellow card] (a) Sub or offending player may enter after 2 minutes (b) Tell official on next stoppage of play if player enters too soon. iv) Do not allow offending player to re-enter the game after a suspension [2 Yellow cards] (a) Sub may enter after 2 minutes (b) Tell official on next stoppage of play if player enters too soon. v) Do not allow offending player to re-enter the game after an ejection [Red Card] (a) Sub may enter after 2 minutes (b) Tell official on next stoppage of play if player enters too soon. 8) Notify umpire of 2nd card on any player 9) Notify umpire when a team reaches their third card [excluding Green cards] 10) Record Team Time Outs (2 per team per game)

7 Timer (Home Table or in direct communication with Table) 1)! Start clock on officialʼs whistle and/or arm signal a. On Draws b. During restarts in last 2 minutes of each half c. On restarts after an officialʼs time out 2)! Stop clock on officialʼs whistle and/or arm signal a. After goals unless there is a 10 or more goal differential b. During last 2 minutes of each half unless there is a 10 or more goal differential c. On officialʼs signal for time out 3) Time player suspension period - Use time recorded in book--begin time (19:52) End time (17:52) 4) Notify coach when player 2 minute penalty is over 5) Notify official for request for timeout (during dead ball)! a. Time team timeouts on stopwatch (officials may keep time on field) b. Blow horn at 1 minute 45 seconds into timeout and at 2 minutes 6) Sound horn a. To indicate the end of 1st half and end of game b. To indicate substitution after goals c. To indicate a clock malfunction d. To notify of illegal sub (when there is stoppage of play) e. To notify of 10 goal differential (during stoppage of play after goal) 7) Notify official of 2 minutes remaining and last 30 seconds of each half. Count down the last 10 seconds of the game, including zero. Horn sounds on zero. VARSITY:!! 25 minute halves. Stop clock after goals. Halftime is up to 10 minutes JV:!!! 25 minute halves. Running clock after goals. Half time is 5 minutes. No!!! overtime. BOTH:!! Keep clock running when there is a 10 goal differential, even in the last!!! 2 minutes. Still stops for timeouts and halftime.

8 Lacrosse Game Day (From OWLUA) Players have been prepped to play within the Spirit and intent of the rules and skills of the women s game o A working sense of 4 meters, which includes the stick if reaching o The Sphere parameters o Stand on the whistle; move when and where directed o Teach new Draw set up and mechanic of UP Field markings correct (Rule 1) o 8 m arc, 12 m fan, hash marks, restraining line, goal circle diameter, center circle, sub area o Nets are in good condition o Lighting is adequate o Fan/spectator area is 4 meters from sideline Scorer s table 4 meters from sideline o Staffed with trained score keeper o Staffed with trained timer o Horn o Scoreboard o Clock Game Manager designated Medical personnel identified o First aid kit available o Injury ice available Players equipment in compliance with USL rules (Rule 2, 3) o Mouth guards cover upper jaw teeth, not chewed, cut down, any protruding pieces cut off o Shooting strings o Pockets tight o Butt ends covered o Goggles fit on face/head o Undergarments o Goalie helmet has securable chinstrap Roster from each team recorded in official (home) scorebook 10 minutes prior to game time 2012 US Lacrosse Points of Emphasis 1. Cross-check a. A player may not use the shaft of the stick to hit, push, or displace an opponent. 2. Obstruction of Free Space to Goal ( Shooting Space ) a. Repeated violations should result in a warning and/or a card. Attack players are responsible for shooting safely. 3. Green Card a. A tool to be used to help manage players not moving 4 m, not returning after a time-out in a timely manner
