All matches will be played according to the playing rules of the Auckland Lacrosse Association which are in accordance with the New Zealand Women s Lacrosse Association Rules and the Federation of International Lacrosse Women s Rules This competition is governed by the ASSHA Constitution and By Laws on the College Sport website: ( Team players must be Under 19 on 1 January of the current year and be currently enrolled at a member school. All games are to be played between 4-6pm on Thursdays. The draws will be carried out by College Sport Auckland once entries have closed. One of two draw options will be used: (i) Round Robin or where there are too many teams for a round robin competition, use: (ii) Section Play at the end of section play, either the top two teams from each section will play off in a round robin semifinal or semi final. i.e. winner section 1 v second section 2; winner section 2 v second section 1; with winner of both semis to play the final, or there will be straight finals between sections. Four for a win, three for a WBD, two for a draw, zero for a loss and -1 for a default, Score (3-0). Where Championship and Competition final rounds are necessary to be played, no points from the first round will be carried forward. In the Qualifying rounds, draws count. In a Round Robin: o If at the end of the qualifying round two teams have equal points, the team who beat the other will be placed ahead. o If still undecided, the points scored for will be divided by the points scored against and the team with the highest point s differential will be placed ahead. In Section Play: o If at the end of section play, two teams have equal points, the same rule above applies.

This is the responsibility of the teacher in charge or sports coordinator. Each week, results are collected and sent to College Sport the morning after game day for processing or entered online. It is the school s responsibility to check weekly, the accuracy of results on the website (please allow 2 days after game day for processing to occur). Corrections to results will not be accepted within 2 days of a final. Teams shall submit the names of players and other details before the first round. Please fill out a separate registration form for each team, including all information required, and enter online. All fees must be paid and will be invoiced once entries have closed. Teams withdrawn after the entry closing date will still be liable for the entry fee. All players must play in the school s recognised playing uniform. Numbers must be on the front and back of uniform tops (this will be enforced over the next two years for division one and three years for other divisions in accordance with Auckland Lacrosse Rules). No player is to play in bare feet. All players must now have eye protection (goggles). This is a safety precaution brought in by Auckland Lacrosse which is now compulsory. Any team not in correct uniform may be deemed to have defaulted. Any coach or manager who has a query over this matter immediately prior to the start of a game (or during the match) should first approach the referee for a ruling. If satisfaction is not forthcoming, then contact the Convener. Ensure there is a school approved adult in charge of each team for the entirety of the game. If a team does not have supervision they will lose by default. Supervisors should identify each other at the start of the game.

Lacrosse is played at school venues, and it is the host school s responsibility to ensure the field dimensions are as per the Auckland Lacrosse Association rules and are marked each week (see appendix 3 for field markings). A home team that hosts without adequate markings (or cones) may lose points. Please contact the Convenor before the season begins if you are having trouble securing markings for your fields. Schools hosting a game are expected to set up two goals per field. If this is not possible, they will need to hire from Auckland Lacrosse or arrange their opposition to bring a goal with them to the game. If no arrangement is made there is no expectation for the travelling school to supply a goal. Safety is a priority for lacrosse. Both teams must provide one umpire each. If a team turns up without an umpire as required, they may default the game. Please contact Auckland Lacrosse Association Schools Umpiring Administrator, Victoria Kelly (victoriakelly174@gmail.com) if you are unable to supply an umpire. All teams must have an appointed umpire who must attend two workshops on how to umpire lacrosse. Upon attending the workshops, the appointed umpire will be certified by the Auckland Lacrosse Association to umpire school games. Teachers, parents or students may be appointed umpires. It is the school s responsibility to source their appointed umpire. All appointed umpires must be named and sent to College Sport. Appointed umpires will receive $10 per game depending on their skill level for every game they umpire and must report this to the Administrator for payment. See defaults and rescheduling policy in College Sport diary or on the College Sport website for schools seeking to rearrange fixtures from a published draw. In all cases, if your team has a concern or disagreement with the opposition, this should be resolved on a school-to-school basis. Convener can mediate when it comes to small disputes on the day of play. Any necessary correspondence thereafter should be precise, but polite. A copy of your letter can be sent to College Sport for their information. If a satisfactory result is not achieved between the two parties, the dispute can be directed to College Sport. For an in-depth description of dispute procedures, refer to ASSHA By Law 12, on the College Sport Website. Each team is responsible for their own first aid. The coach/manager should be aware of any special medical conditions of a player.

It is preferred that sticks are FIL approved as per Auckland Lacrosse Association by-laws. No players may be wearing jewellery. Mouth guards are now compulsory. Approved protective eye goggles are recommended. Field players requiring helmet protection must apply to the ALA for dispensation. 2. The game starts with a draw. The ball must go higher than shoulder height of the centre players otherwise it is redrawn. All other players are outside the centre circle for the draw. 3. The whistle starts and stops play. Players stand still (except the GK if inside her circle) at the sound of the whistle, accept the decision of the umpire gracefully and resume play on the whistle. The umpire s whistle is final. There are no appeals. 4. Substitution is unlimited within the designated team size. Players leaving must do so at the substitution area and must be fully off the field before the substitute enters the field of play. 5. The umpire has the right for any incidents of repeated major fouls, to send a player off with a yellow card for 2 minutes, during which no substitute will replace her. Repeated major fouling will result in the player eventually being permanently removed from the game with no replacement. 6. The team scoring the greatest number of goals wins the ball must wholly cross the goal line only being disallowed if off the body of an attack, after the whistle has blown, if the shot is deemed dangerous or the offence steps into the circle. 7. Free position a violation of any rule is a foul and a free position is set up (i.e. possession at the place the foul occurred). All players must be 4m away, the infringing player is placed 4m behind for a serious breach of the rules (major foul) Free positions are not taken inside the fan and will be taken in an area designated by the umpire. 8. Shooting space there must be a clear pathway from the attack to the outer edges of the goal circle, clear of players before the attack shoots. Shooting through people is dangerous and a dangerous shot at the GK may also be a foul. 9. If a defender blocks the shooting lane the whistle will be blown immediately and the offence given a free shot at goal from 11m out on the nearest hash and all players must clear the shooting lane.

Below are some examples of minor and major fouls. Please refer to the rulebook for a more comprehensive guide. Minor Fouls (4 meters from direction which they came) 1. Trapping a ground ball 2. Held check 3. Use an arm to guard the player s stick 4. Touching the ball with the hand or ball off the body to advantage 5. Empty stick check 6. GK holds ball in the circle for longer than 10 secs. Count of 10 sec starts as soon as the ball enters the circle. Major Fouls (4 meters Behind) 1. Repeated minor fouls 2. Rough or reckless stick checking or contact on an opponent 3. Propelling or follow through dangerously swiping is an immediate yellow card 4. Dangerous shot (if GK moves into the shot it does not count) immediate yellow card 5. Detaining an opponent (eg holding, tagging, ripping, barging, pressing or brushing against the body clothing or crosse) or affect their balanced movement. 6. Standing in the shooting space Rule Changes Rules changes have been implemented this year to help align the sport of Lacrosse with Club and Regional levels. These are the rules that will be followed at all major tournaments this year, and have been adapted to make the game faster, easier for players, and referees. 1. Restarting Play for a Minor Foul Existing Rule: Offender is 4m from the direction they came New Rule: Offender is 4m to the side 2. Repeated Delay of Game/Repeated Minor Fouls Existing Rule: Green/Yellow Card New Rule: For the second delay of game or persistent foul penalty, the umpire shall award a major foul. 3. Penalties for Goal Circle Violations Existing Rule: All players (other than the offender) 4m away from the goal circle New Rule: All players (other than the offender) 1m away from the goal circle 4. Alternating Possession Existing Rule: a throw is conducted New Rule: Alternating possession based on decision at captains toss

5. Drop Sticks After Scoring Existing Rule: n/a New Rule: The scorers stick will be checked following a goal. All substitutions must be held for this time. A goal is disallowed if: - The ball enters the goal from an attack player s illegal crosse. - The player who shot the goal adjusts her crosse after an umpire s request for a pocket inspection; the crosse will be removed from the game. (20.A.15) - If the player who shot the goal does not drop her crosse, or hand her crosse to the nearest umpire immediately, or the goal scorer or any team mate adjusts the goal scorer s crosse in any way before dropping the crosse or handing it to the umpire (Rule 20.A.15) the goal will not be permitted as the crosse is illegal (Rule 14.C.8). The crosse will be removed from the game Players on the Field New Rule: 10 players (roster of 18) 7. Three players from each team between the restraining lines for the centre draw. Existing Rule: 5 players from each team between restraining lines for the centre draw New Rule: - 3 players from each team between restraining lines for the centre draw - Possession must be gained before additional players may cross the restrainer into the centre third of the field. - This will be indicated by the umpire s direction signal and verbal possession - Players behind the restraining lines may reach over the line with their crosses to play the ball as long as no part of the player s foot is on or over the line. - Early breaks that do influence play will be called and a free position for an illegal draw will be set at the center line. There is no self-start on an illegal draw. - Advantage may be played for early breaks that do not impact play 8. Six players on the attacking side of the restraining line and seven players on the defending side of the restrainer (or 6 plus 1 goalie) Existing Rule: 7 attackers and 8 defenders New Rule: 6 attackers and 7 defenders. There must be 3 players from each team behind the restraining line at all times 9. Self-Starts outside the Critical Scoring Area (15m fan) Existing Rule: the umpires whistle signals the start of play New Rule: - Following a whistle and the umpire s signal/verbal instruction for a major or minor foul outside the 15m fan, the player who is awarded the free position may self-start without waiting for an additional whistle when: - both her feet are stationary on the ground and the ball is in her crosse OR - the ball is within playing distance (2.5m - approx. a stick and a half) - All players around the player who was fouled must immediately move 4m away. - As soon as the player with the ball moves all other players may move. - You cannot self start if play is stopped: - within 15m - when the ball is out of bounds - for a restraining line foul - for an illegal draw - the umpire needs to intervene to reset the free position

Notes: Team bench area does not have to be perfect sizing Be very careful with the diameter of the goal circle (3m radius, 6m diameter), 11m and 15m fans these are crucial markings for the game
