3 If an appropriate health-care professional determines that the athlete HAS NOTsuffered a concussion, the athlete may return to play (according to substitution rules) If there is no appropriate health-care professional available to evaluate the athlete, the athlete SHOULD NOTbe allowed to return to play State Board of Education standard and GHSA by-laws involved. A player who participates in a GHSA sport may not participate in practices during the sports season that occur during the school day even if that practice is not a part of the school s practice activity. Fairness issue for individuals and teams 2.71c1: Take proper steps & precautions to insure crowd control, including having a Game Manager at all GHSA events. 2.71c2: Take steps to insure comfort & security of all players, coaches, and officials. 2.71c4: Security escorts must be provided to game officials by the host school before & after contest, at halftime, and even to their vehicles. 3
4 Host school provides Principal or designate with decisionmaking authority Works with officiating crew in regard to: Crowd sportsmanship issues Serious injury issues Weather-related emergencies Escort to and from competitive area Custodian of the lightning detector Lightning detectors required for all outdoor GHSA events When lightning detected within 8-10 mile range, Game Manager notifies game officials Game suspended Players, coaches, & officials moved indoors Spectators given instruction to move indoors Game will be restarted if no lightning in danger zone has been detected for 30 minutes There is a Thor Guard exception for resuming play Home team has authority until time for umpires to take jurisdiction Decision made before game has begun must be for valid playing reasons Game may be started later that day or postponed until another day Notification to opponents and umpires should occur as early as possible Once game has started, umpires may halt game for: Weather conditions Darkness (day games)/light failure (night games) The maximum time to stop play is two hours (cumulative) when teams are in different classifications Matches between schools of same classification must be played to completion 4

The penalty for goal circle fouls by the defense (other than for an illegal deputy) shall be a free position taken 8m out to either side level with the goal line The offending player (except the goalkeeper) shall be placed 4m behind the player taking the free position. This no longer involves an indirect free position. The list of approved eyewear is posted on the US Lacrosse web site. All eye protection must be tested by an accredited testing facility approved by U.S. Lacrosse Dangerous Use of the Stick Illegal use of the stick includes: Forcing, pushing or displacing an attack player with the shaft of the stick Slashing Checking towards the body Dangerous follow-through Checks to the head Hitting an opponent deliberately Illegal play in the sphere Defensive players checking towards, through and into the sphere Offensive players who shoot without regard to the defense creating a dangerous situation Officials must be vigilant in recognizing these actions as fouls and call them immediately and card appropriately. 7
8 Repetitive Fouls To ensure the safety and integrity of the game, officials need to recognize and properly penalize individuals or teams committing repetitive violations. For example When one team continues to cross check an opponent, the official should either warn players or start using yellow cards When one team continues to push players to the ground, after the officials have given yellow cards, officials may start to think red card. Officials are instructed to pay particular attention to attacking players that gain an advantage by forcing their way into an established defender. Examples of offensive fouls Illegal cradle the attack player pulling her crossewithin her sphere to avoid being checked Forcing through try to force her crossethrough an opposing crosse(s) in such a way as to cause her own crosseto contact her body.
