Pinty s Grand Slam of Curling Visor Our Mission Biokinetics advised that EPS (expanded polystyrene) would best manage deceleration and thereby minimize the secondary impact that is the brain within the skull. The EPS part is designed to crush and thereby absorb impact in the event of a fall. As pictured, a drop test is used wherein the headgear is dropped from various heights onto a pad and the impact measured. To pass, the protective part must reduce impact such that it is less than 275g s. Construction The protective part is housed unobtrusively in a pocket within various hat styles. The pocket is zippered to facilitate easy removal of the protective part for washing. It is important that the protective headgear fits snug and is worn such that the protective part covers the apex of the head. All styles come with a removable chinstrap. 9 CELEBRATING OUR 50TH ANNIVERSARY Goldline got its start in 1967, Canada s Centennial Year, when my grandfather, Ed Flowers, began distributing curling supplies from his garage in Streetsville, Ontario. Under the name, Goldline Curling Supplies, the business complemented his job as manager of the Sherwood Park Curling Club. Ed was a mechanic at heart and though the company flourished, his passion was dehumidifiers, chillers, and ice plants, those essentials behind the scenes. The garage was always full of dehumidifiers in various states of repair and, as we travel around the Ontario countryside today, we still frequently hear I wish Ed was still around to fix our dehumidifier. My father, Doug, left a career as an urban planner to become involved in At the time, Goldline and other smaller distributors fell under the domination of three suppliers, each of them producing and selling the ubiquitous corn broom. As the market shifted to synthetic brooms, hog hair and horse hair brushes Goldline got into manufacturing, producing the Rink Rat synthetic broom and hair brushes within our own facility. In the early years under Doug s guidance the company introduced a curling pant a novelty at the time, the curling bears sweatshirt, the first curling retail stores, and professional merchandising at curling events. Brooms and hair brushes gave way in the 90 s to the synthetic oval brush and Goldline became a leading supplier not only of brushes, but of the full spectrum of curling products. I became involved with Goldline about thirty years ago when I was seven! Our rec room was more like a Goldline packaging room and from an early age my summers were invariably spent assembling in the warehouse. As I reached my 20 s Dad and I put our heads together with our talented staff and the results included the sponsorship of three Olympic gold medal teams, a sponsor partnership with Sportsnet with regards to the Grand Slam of Curling, Podium and Quantum shoes, the Air brush, and our appointment as the official supplier of Athlete Uniforms for Curling Canada. I am proud that from humble beginnings in a garage, our family has created a brand that is now internationally recognised. Our heritage is one of passion for the game, constant innovation, and conscientious customer service. I trust that continued devotion will serve us well for another fifty years.
