2 The Kids Inner-City Developmental Soccer League was founded in 1994 with the formation of one team of nine and ten year old children from the Godman Guild, a Columbus central city settlement house. The team played at the Northern Columbus Athletic Association as a courtesy of the association. Uniforms were donated by Soccer Central and transportation was provided by The Godman Guild. The children and families involved had a great time and did learn the fundamentals of the game. After the first season it was determined that these children needed a league of their own which would allow them to play with other children who had had limited soccer experience. That was how BE the "developmental" UNTOUCHABLE concept of the league originated. Discussions began with several other inner city organizations needing a soccer program and surprisingly in the spring of 1995 all seven inner city Columbus settlement houses participated in the newly formed league which played at Joyce Park near St. Stephens Community Center, one of our early partners. Two years later, the City of Columbus Recreation and Parks Department secured Saunders Park in Columbus for the exclusive use of the KIDS league. In addition, several Columbus Recreation and Parks Department Community Centers have joined the program throughout the past several years. There have been as many as 700 children in the program during each season. There is absolutely no cost to the children or the community partners to participate in the program. All equipment, goals, referees, balls, field lining and maintenance are provided free of charge. There is no restriction on race, creed, sex, religion or national origin to participate in the program. The program has always strived to give empowerment for the operation of the program in the hands of the participants. The program is now operated from within the community. Dozens of KIDS' players have gone on to play soccer for their high school teams. Many of the original players have been trained as referees and now give back to the program. The Kids Inner-City Developmental Soccer League with donations of time by the volunteers, grants and donations from M.O.S.S.L., continues to operate on a very tight budget. The Early Bird Spring Soccer Invitational and Starburst Soccer Spectacular tournaments, attempts to be a part of long term funding for the Kids Inner-City Developmental Soccer League

4 Mid Ohio Select Soccer League How To Choose A Select Team HOW TO CHOOSE A SELECT SOCCER TEAM Whether this is your first time in select soccer or an old hat at it, we welcome you to Mid-Ohio Select Soccer League. MOSSL is composed of 30 member soccer organizations from throughout Central Ohio. Our member leagues extend from Mt. Vernon in the north, to Chillicothe in the south and from Zanesville in the east to Marysville in the west. The league is administrated by an Executive Board, the members of which are elected by the Board of Directors of MOSSL. The Board of Directors consists of one member from each of the member leagues. The MOSSL Board of Directors consists of persons from all walks of life who bring years of experience in soccer administration, coaching, refereeing and soccer parenting. All of the Executive Committee members and MOSSL s Directors are here to assist you and your child in any way possible as you and your family progress along the path of select soccer. In the fall season of 2017, we had 335 girls and boys teams from the U-8 to U-14 age groups. In the spring 2018 season, the league expanded to include the high school age players, U-15 to U-19, for a total of 426 teams. An additional 890 teams participated in MOSSL s sister organization, the Buckeye Premier Youth Soccer League, the statewide premier league. For the vast majority of you, select soccer will become a wonderful experience. MOSSL demands a strong commitment from its member organizations and coaches. In addition, we expect your child to make the commitment to their team for the entire league year; fall and spring. There are many factors that should enter into your decision in choosing select soccer as an avenue for your child to pursue, such as time, cost, training, etc. Our purpose with this letter is to attempt to provide some insight into some of these areas. TIME COMMITMENT First, find out what will be expected in terms of; Practice (how many days per week) Camps Tournaments (How many, when and where) Indoor soccer (Winter months) Fundraising # of Games Per Week COST The current Mid-Ohio Select Soccer League fee schedule is as follows: Fall 2018 Season $12.00 per player U-8 academy players. $ per U-9 & U-10 team, including Ohio South s fee, USSF s fee & insurance. $ per U-11 through U-14 team, including Ohio South s, fee, USSF s fee & insurance. $ to $230.00, (depending on age division), per team for the season ending tournament. $110. PER U-9 & U-10 team and $150. for U-11 and older teams for the Field Development Fund. Spring 2019 Season $8.00 per returning player for U-8 academy players. $ per returning U-9 & U-10 team. $ per returning U-11 through U-14 team. $ per new U-9 & U-10 team, including Ohio South s fee & USSF s fee & insurance. $ per new U-11 thru U-19 team, including Ohio South s fee, USSF s fee & insurance. $ to $230.00, (depending on age division), per team for the season ending tournament for U-9 s thru U-14 s. $110. PER U-9 & U-10 team and $150. for U-11 and older teams for the Field Development Fund. Additional costs which are not payable to MOSSL but that will be incurred are sponsoring league fees, uniforms and referee fees for home games. In addition, there could also be costs for training, coaches, tournaments outside of MOSSL, travel and lodging for tournaments, camps and indoor soccer. Check what the total financial commitment is before you sign up. These additional fees can range from less than $ to more than $2, per player

5 How To Choose A Select Team Mid Ohio Select Soccer League TRANSPORTATION Find out where the team practices, plays and where any other team related activities may take place. always as black and white as it might seem. Everything is not LEVEL OF COMPETITION Find out what level the coach wants to play the team at and honestly evaluate how your child fits into the picture. Your child will be playing the game, so choose a level where they will have the most fun playing, considering their proper skill level. Children get better by playing, not by sitting. MOSSL usually offers 2-5 levels of competition in each age group for U-14 and younger depending on the number of teams registered in an age group. The A division being the highest and descending from that point to the E division. Remember that you can have a negative impact on the development of your child by trying to press them into a situation higher than their capabilities. COACHES AND TRAINERS Your child will be spending a lot of time with these individuals. Find out about their experience and background. Be sure you and your child are compatible with their coaching style and demeanor. Like all of us, each coach may have a different emotional level. Find someone who you feel will provide the role model that you want your child to have. TRYOUTS Tryouts are held in a two to three week period following the Spring season ending league tournament for a particular age group. You should attend the tryouts for the teams you desire. Coaches may not deter, by any means, players from attending whatever tryouts the player desires. Tryouts after the Spring season may not be held until after the established time according to information found in MOSSL Bylaw 8.1. After tryouts, weigh your options and make your decision. Coaches need responses in a timely manner however; they cannot place unreasonable demands on you to join their team or club. The first time that a coach may offer your child a position on the team that they tried out for is 2:00 PM on the Sunday following the first day that tryouts are permitted. See M.O.S.S.L. Bylaws 8.0 TRYOUTS and 9.0 RECRUITING for additional information. TRANSFERS What if you feel you have made a mistake and wish to change teams? MOSSL considers players carded to a team committed to that team for both fall and spring seasons. Players are considered to be rostered to a team when the player's registration materials are completed by the parent or the guardian. Transfers will only be considered when all necessary and completed paperwork is received in the M.O.S.S.L. office according to M.O.S.S.L. Bylaws 10.1 through If the M.O.S.S.L. office receives all of the necessary and completed paperwork by the designated cut-off dates, as listed in M.O.S.S.L. Bylaws 10.1, and , transfers will be approved unless the M.O.S.S.L. Bylaw on recruiting has been violated or the number of players on the player s current team would fall below the minimum requirements according to M.O.S.S.L. Bylaws. See M.O.S.S.L. 6 Mid Ohio Select Soccer League 8.0 Tryouts. MOSSL Bylaws Tryouts 8.1 Players can be added during the seasonal year from any recreational programs. Players cannot be cut from team rosters. However, tryouts may be held during the year to fill vacancies on rosters. The guidelines for recruiting must be adhered to when advertising tryouts. Tryouts after the Spring season to form teams for the following seasonal year shall not be held until the following dates: To form 9 and Under teams: The Tuesday after Memorial Day. To form 10 and Under teams: The Tuesday after Memorial Day. To form 11 and Under teams: The Tuesday after Memorial Day. To form 12 and Under teams: The Tuesday after Memorial Day. To form 13 and Under teams: The first Monday after Memorial Day. To form 14 and Under teams: The first Monday after Memorial Day. To form 15 and Under thru 17 and Under teams: The first Monday after Memorial Day. To form 18 and Under thru 19 and under teams: The Tuesday after Memorial Day. Under no circumstance may a tryout be held prior to June 1st in which players who have just completed their freshman, sophomore or junior year of high school would be expected to attend, i.e. (players for a 16 & Under team or older teams). A calendar of events shall be distributed yearly that specifies the exact day after which tryouts can be held for each age group. In order to allow players and their families the ability to choose the best select team for their situation, the following fair play guidelines must be observed: a) Coaches shall not deter, by any means, players from attending whatever tryouts the player s desire. This would include the scheduling of mandatory team functions or imposing sanctions against those players. b) A member league, coach, and / or club shall not place unreasonable demands on players to join a team after tryouts. This would include requiring; an immediate response, large cash payments, signing US Youth / Ohio South / M.O.S.S.L. or other U.S.S.F. affiliate player registration form prior to the earliest date to make offers as specified above or other coercive measures. Specifically, no offer to participate with a particular club or team during the following seasonal year may be extended to a player for any reason until after the date and time specified above. Exception: After the beginning of the tryout period for a particular age group, a member league, coach, and / or club may offer a position on a team to ANY of its currently registered players prior to the date and time specified above If any member league, team and/or coach holds a tryout for any youth soccer team, regardless of the intended U.S.S.F. affiliation for that team, prior to the time established in Section 8.1, or otherwise violates the provisions of Sections 8.0 and/or 9.0 that member league, team and/or coach will be prohibited, for a period of one year, from sponsoring, declaring or coaching any team in the gender and age division(s) for which the tryout was intended. This specifically includes, but is not limited to, making an offer to participate with a team that may/will be playing in another O.S.Y.S.A. or US Youth Soccer or U.S.S.F. affiliated league where the offer to participate is made prior to the time specified in Section 8.1 (b) above

7 Mid Ohio Select Soccer League MOSSL Bylaws Tryouts If any coach or other person acting on behalf of a coach violates the provisions of Section 8.1, the coach may be found in violation of a Minor Infraction as defined in Section and subject to the sanctions as provided in that section. A second violation by an individual of Section 8.1 may be deemed a Major Infraction as defined in Section and subject to the sanctions as provided in that section If any coach or other person acting on behalf of a coach violates the provisions of Section 8.1, the member league that is sponsoring the team or authorized the tryout shall be assessed a $ penalty. 9.0 Recruiting 9.1 It shall be deemed recruiting if any coach, manager, trainer, player, or parent of a player, entices, encourages, cajoles, and/or facilitates, in any manner, a player to transfer from another team to his/her team or club. The coach(es) of the team that the player wishes to transfer to, may only refer the player to the M.O.S.S.L. office, Executive Committee members or members of the Board of Directors to obtain assistance in the completion of the transfer process. In all cases, the Head Coach may be held ultimately responsible for all actions of his/her subordinates, players, or families. A player shall be considered a member of the team from the time the parent or guardian signs the player s USYSA membership form. The form, when presented to the player and his / her parents, must show the team name and the age group the player will initially be playing with during the first season of play for that player. The advertising of a team s per player cost, including that of a reduced or a No cost option shall not be considered recruiting under these rules Examples of what may be done (but not limited to): a) Advertise team tryouts in any commercial media service such as the Dispatch or the Suburban News. b) Advertise team tryouts on a poster or flyer placed in public use locations such as stores or indoor soccer arenas, websites, etc. including the M.O.S.S.L. Discussion Board c) Distribute or locate posters or flyers about team tryouts in schools, churches or with other non-soccer organizations. d) Holding / organizing of an Open House / Information Session where no player evaluation, skill demonstration by player or coach, or similar activity takes place, provided that the announcements of such events are only made where it is readily available to the general public, i.e. the club / league website, the M.O.S.S.L. discussion board, the M.O.S.S.L. Tryout Guide, or the locations similar to those mentioned in (a), (b) or (c) above. Each club is permitted to hold / organize a maximum of two such Open House / Information Session, regardless of the ages of the teams being promoted. These Open House / Information Session events may only be held during May and June each calendar year. Open House / Information Session or other similar activities may not be held during the period of July 1st through April 30th Examples of what MAY NOT BE DONE (but not limited to): a) Have any contact with another team s player that attempts to entice that player to come to his/her team or team tryouts. Statements like come play for me, I have a uniform for you, or I can make you a better player are all improper and a violation of these rules when made to a member of another team or club. b) Make verbal, electronic, written contact by any medium or method with any player or player s parent that is currently registered with a M.O.S.S.L. team about switching teams or clubs. c) Use Olympic Development, tournament applications, or other such information to target certain players or teams for recruitment purposes. d) Use his/her position in a school or community to influence an individual player s choice of a team. e) Files or assists in the filing of a transfer request with M.O.S.S.L., which, if approved, would allow the player to transfer to her/his team or club. Files or assists in the filing of an appeal of a denial of a transfer request which, if approved, would allow the player to transfer to her/his team or club. f) Using any advertising or promotional material that refers to any other soccer club or organization that participates in M.O.S.S.L., by name

8 MOSSL Bylaws Recruiting Mid Ohio Select Soccer League g) Posting or distributing tryout notices or other promotional material at any M.O.S.S.L. sponsored tournament or event, except that the member league that is hosting the tournament or event may post, but not distribute, tryout notices. h) Distribution of information regarding the holding / organizing an Open House / Information Session as permitted in paragraph (d) to specific players or groups of players who are not already registered to the member league or club. Violation of this section shall make the head coach of the team(s) involved and/or other persons involved subject to the sanctions as outlined in Section (e) or (c). 9.2 The Administrative Bylaws relating to recruiting apply only to players who are currently registered as players within M.O.S.S.L. 9.3 The administrative bylaws relating to recruiting applies to all players in M.O.S.S.L. except. during the period of May 15th through June 15th. During the period of May 15th through June 15th, the only type of recruiting that is permitted is that coaches may invite players who are not on their current team to a tryout for the next seasonal year All of the other bylaws governing the holding of tryouts, including the dates that tryouts may be held, as well all of the other bylaws prohibiting recruiting in other circumstances remain applicable Transfers and Changing Teams 10.1 Any player rostered to a team on or before October 1st is bound to that team for the entire seasonal year unless a transfer is requested and received by M.O.S.S.L. on or before October 1st or the request meets one or more of the exceptions listed below in paragraphs a) through l) and the request is submitted prior to the deadlines listed in rules or If the player is rostered to the team after October 1st, the transfer request must be received by M.O.S.S.L. on or before May 1st. For the purposes of this Section 10.0, the date that a player is rostered shall be the date that the player was first rostered to a team during the current seasonal year. A player shall be considered rostered to a team when the player s parent or guardian signs the player s U.S. Youth Soccer membership form. Transfer requests, when submitted on a completed U.S. Youth Soccer Inter-Team Player Transfer Request form prior to the applicable dates, will be approved unless the M.O.S.S.L. bylaw on recruiting has been violated or the number of players on the player s current team would fall below the required minimum number of players as specified in section 2.5. The transfer rules contained in this Section 10.0 only apply when both teams are part of M.O.S.S.L For players who are rostered to a team on or before October 1st and for whom a transfer is requested after October 1st, a transfer shall only be approved if one or more of the following conditions exists and the transfer is submitted prior to the deadlines specified in bylaw and ; a) The player is a female player and she requests to transfer from a team that is registered as a male team to a team that is registered as a female team. The teams involved do not have to be sponsored by the same member league. b) The player is registered on a team that is registered in an age group older than the player s natural age group and the team that the player is requesting to transfer is in the player s natural age group. The teams involved do not have to be sponsored by the same member league. c) The player is registered on a team that played in a lower or same competitive division during the Fall season than the team that he/she is requesting to transfer to play in and both teams are sponsored by the same member league. If a member league sponsors more than one organization within their league (i.e. clubs), then both teams must belong to the same organization, (i.e. club). d) The player is registered on a team that played in a younger age division during the Fall season than the team that he/she is requesting to transfer to play in and both teams are sponsored by the same member league. If a member league sponsors more than one organization within their league (i.e. clubs), then both teams must belong to the same organization, (i.e. club)

9 Mid Ohio Select Soccer League MOSSL Bylaws Transfers and Changing Teams e) The player is a U-15 player and is registered on a team that played during the Fall season in a U-15 age division and the player s current team has or will declare to play in a U-14 age division during the Spring season, provided that the team that the player is requesting to transfer to, is a U-15 or older team. The coach(es) of the player s current team may not pressure the player or otherwise attempt to force the player from his/her current team. f) The player is registered on a team that played in a higher competitive division for the player s age group during the Fall season than the competitive division that the team the player is requesting to transfer to play in during the Fall season. The teams involved do not have to be sponsored by the same member league. g) The primary residence of the player is changed by a distance of ten (10) miles or more as measured in a straight line and the player s current primary home team fields are a greater distance to the player s new residence than to the player s former residence. Documentation in the form of bills of sales, rental agreements or other similar documents must be provided. h) There has been a significant change in the parental custodial rights of the player, (i.e. divorce by the parents, change from joint custody to single parent custody, issuance of a restraining order, etc.) Documentation in the form of a court order or other similar documents must be provided. i) The player did not participate as a member of his/her current team, by attending practices and/or M.O.S.S.L. league games, from the date of the first M.O.S.S.L. league game for the player s current team and beyond. If there is a dispute as to whether or not a player stopped participating as a member of his/her current team prior to the team s first M.O.S.S.L. league game, the representation by the head coach, club or member league in this matter shall be considered factual unless the player and/or her/his parent s provide documentary information to the contrary. j) The player was a member of a team during the current seasonal year that subsequently disbanded. Under this exception only, a player may transfer to another team at any time during the seasonal year. k) The player participated on a team that played in the lowest competitive division in their particular age group during the Fall season and the player is requesting to transfer to a team that participated in the same division as the team the player is transferring from, (a lateral transfer), during the Fall season. l) The player is a U-14 player who had been registered on a team in an age group older than the player s natural age group during the previous seasonal year and that team will not be competing during the Fall season of the current seasonal year because the majority of the players are playing High School soccer. A player who registers with a different U-14 team during the Fall season of the current seasonal year may request a transfer to the player s team from the previous seasonal year for the Spring of the current seasonal year. This would only be considered if the original team s club does NOT have a natural age group team where the player could be registered for the Fall season of the current seasonal year All players and/or their parents who request to transfer between teams based upon one or more reasons listed in bylaw 10.1 must submit a completed transfer request along with any additional documentation, if required, to the M.O.S.S.L. office prior to the following deadlines If the reason for the player transfer is shown in paragraphs 10.1 a) and e), above, then the transfer request must be received in the M.O.S.S.L. office on or before March 20th If the reason for the player transfer is shown in paragraphs 10.1 b), c), d), f), g), h), i), j), k) and/or l), above, then the transfer request must be received in the M.O.S.S.L. office on or before May 1st A player may not use Section 10.1 (f), (which allows a player to switch clubs and play down a competitive division), and then subsequently use Section 10.1 (c), (which allows a player to transfer to a higher competitive division but within the same club), during the same seasonal year

10 MOSSL Bylaws Transfers and Changing Teams Mid Ohio Select Soccer League During the current seasonal year, a player that has transferred from a M.O.S.S.L. team to a team participating in different US Youth Soccer or other U.S.S.F. affiliate sanctioned league, may transfer back to the player s original team in M.O.S.S.L. or the player may transfer from the team in the non-m.o.s.s.l. league to a different M.O.S.S.L. team than the one the player previously played for provided the above paragraphs (a) through (j) are applied as if the player never transferred from the player s original M.O.S.S.L. team to the non-m.o.s.s.l. league Incomplete player transfer requests and player transfer requests received in the M.O.S.S.L. office after the above dates shall not be approved A request to transfer between teams will only be considered a valid request if it is submitted by the player and/or his/her parent(s) or guardian(s) If a player transfer request is submitted that contains false information or if the supporting documentation is false, a violation of bylaw (b) may be deemed to have occurred. Following a determination by the Grievance Committee that a violation of bylaw (b) did occur, the player who requested the transfer or on whose behalf the transfer was requested, as well as the persons who submitted the transfer request shall be placed in bad standing and suspended as a participant in youth soccer for a period of one year A coach may not withhold a player s pass or the completion of the transfer request when submitted, in order to coerce or compel the payment of any outstanding fees that may be due to the team, club or member league All players who transfer between teams during the seasonal year, regardless of the reason(s) given or the timing of the transfer, shall be counted toward the maximum of five (5) previously carded players that may be rostered to a team at the moment the team s roster is frozen for the current seasonal year s O.S.Y.S.A. State Cup & President Cup Championships. This restriction on the limit of 5 previously rostered players shall only be applicable to those teams that will be participating the current seasonal year s O.S.Y.S.A. State Cup & President Cup Championships. Teams that are not participating in the current seasonal year s State Cup Championship may have an unlimited number of transfers It is the spirit and intent of these Administrative Bylaws that during the tryout process, between the Spring and Fall seasons, players should be given wide latitude to select or be selected by teams or coaches that best suit that player s development. Once that decision is reached by a player and his/her family, persons other that the coach of the team selected must respect that decision and not attempt to change the decision that the player has made. Coaches must understand that once a player has been selected for a particular team, the coach has made a commitment to that player for the entire seasonal year. Likewise, once a player has made a commitment to play for a particular team, the player should be prepared to be a member of the team for the entire seasonal year

11 Ohio South Hazardous Weather Condition Guidelines Mid Ohio Select Soccer League OHIO SOUTH YOUTH SOCCER ASSOCIATION SECTION 17.0 GUIDELINES FOR LIGHTNING AND HAZARDOUS WEATHER CONDITIONS The protection of Ohio South members and participants is of paramount importance. Every member should recognize the danger presented by lightning, tornados and other hazardous weather. The following items represent generally accepted principles regarding the dangers involved with lightning and tornados. LIGHTNING: All thunderstorms produce lightning and are dangerous. Lightning often strikes as far as 10 miles away from any rainfall. You are in danger from lightning if you can hear thunder. You are in danger if you can see lightning. Lightning injuries can lead to permanent disabilities or death. Look for dark cloud bases and increasing wind. Lightning can travel sideways for up to 10 miles and strike when skies are blue. Soccer fields are a dangerous place to be during a lightning storm. When lightning is seen or thunder is heard, or when dark threatening clouds are observed, quickly suspend the game and/or practice and move to a safe location. Avoid standing in an open area, near soccer goals, under a tent, near trees or in water. The safest place during a thunderstorm with or without visible lightning is in a car, but not a convertible. TORNADOS: Watch for rapidly darkening skies. The sound of an approaching tornado is often described as that of an approaching train. The funnel of a tornado does not have to touch down to cause extensive damage and injuries. Tornados can produce winds of 300 miles per hour or more. Most people who are hurt during a tornado are hurt when they are struck by flying debris. Seek safety in a solid structure, preferably in a basement or in an interior room. If no building is available, lay down in a ditch. GAME SUSPENSION REQUIREMENTS: In any of the circumstances outlined below occurs, the referee should immediately suspend the game. 1. If thunder is heard, the game should be suspended and the fields cleared. Everyone should immediately go to a safe shelter. 2. If lightning is seen, the game should be suspended and the fields cleared. Everyone should immediately go to a safe shelter. 3. If a thunderstorm is heard or seen coming or your hair stands on end, the game should be suspended and the fields cleared. Everyone should immediately go to a safe shelter. Do not wait until it rains. If the game official does not immediately suspend the game when any one of the points above have occurred, the head coach from each team can agree that one of the four criteria listed above have occurred they are to withdraw their teams from the field. If this action is taken, then both coaches must submit a written report to their league outlining the circumstances, the facts concerning the weather conditions at that time, the fact that the two coaches were in agreement and the name of the officials at the game. If an official and one of the coaches do not reach the conclusion to suspend the game and any one of the four points listed above are believed to have occurred, the coach that supported the suspension of the game is to send a written report to their league outlining the facts and the names of the officials. No one should retake the field or re-start the game until all of the lightning and thunder or other hazardous weather has left the area. Specifically, no one should retake the filed for a minimum of 30 minutes after the last lightning is seen or thunder is heard, or the dangerously high winds have passed. Each league should establish their own procedures for replaying of any games suspended due to lightning or tornados

41 Zero Tolerance Mid Ohio Select Soccer League OHIO SOUTH YOUTH SOCCER ASSOCIATION 16.0 Zero Tolerance Policy Against Abuse The Ohio South Youth Soccer Association is committed to providing a safe environment for its members and participants, and to preventing abusive conduct in any form. Every member of this organization is responsible for protecting our participants and ensuring their safety and well being while involved in sponsored activities. To this end, we have established the following guidelines of behavior and procedures for our staff, volunteers and participants. All members of this organization, as well as parents, spectators and other invitees are expected to observe and adhere to these guidelines. 1. Abuse of any kind is not permitted within our organization. This means we do not tolerate physical, sexual, emotional or verbal abuse or misconduct from our players, coaches, officials, volunteers, parents or spectators. 2. Physical and sexual abuse, including, but not limited to, striking, hitting, kicking, biting, indecent or wanton gesturing, lewd remarks, indecent exposure, unwanted physical contact, any form of sexual contact or inappropriate touching, are strictly prohibited within our organization. 3. Emotional abuse or verbal abuse is also prohibited. These include, but are not limited to such forms of abuse as: yelling, insulting, threatening, mocking, demeaning behavior, or making abusive statements in regard to a person's race, gender, religion, nationality/ethnicity, sex or age. 4. We are committed to providing a safe environment for our players, participants and staff. We do so by appointing all coaches, officials and volunteers and anyone else affiliated with our organization as protection advocates. Every member of this organization is responsible for reporting any cases of questionable conduct or alleged mistreatment toward our members by any coach, official, volunteer, player, parent, sibling or spectator. 5. Buddy System: We recommend that every activity sponsored by our program put a Buddy System in place. Each youth participant should be assigned a buddy during sponsored activities. No child should go anywhere -to the bathrooms, locker rooms, or other location without his or her buddy. 6. To further protect our youth participants, as well as our coaches, officials and volunteers, we strongly advise that no adult person allow him/herself to be alone with a child or with any group of children during sponsored activities. In particular, we recommend that coaches or other adult members of this organization: Do not drive alone with a child participant in the car

42 Zero Tolerance Mid Ohio Select Soccer League Do not take a child alone to the locker room, bathrooms or any other any other private room. Provide one-on-one training or individual coaching with the assistance of another adult or the child's Buddy. If you must have a private conversation with a youth participant, do it within view of others, in the gym or on the field, instead of in a private office. Coaches and other adult members of this organization should not socialize individually with the participants outside of sponsored activities 6. Supervision/Chaperone ratio: We recommend that for any sponsored activity, the ratio of adults to youth participants be 1:8, one (or more) adults for every eight children, with a minimum of two adults for every activity. 7. When traveling overnight with youth participants, children should be paired up with other children of same gender and similar age group, with chaperones in separate but nearby rooms. 8. We want to empower our children to trust their feelings and let them know that their concerns, fears and hopes are important by listening to them. Open communication between children and parents, or between children and other adults in the organization may help early warning signs of abuse to surface. 9. We encourage parents to become as active as possible in sponsored activities, games, practices and other events. The more the parents are involved, the less likely it is for abusive situations to develop. 10. We will respond quickly to any and all allegations of abuse within this organization. This information will be communicated to the authorities for investigation and will be reviewed by the organization's directors. The alleged offender will be notified of such allegations promptly. 11. Any person accused of sexual or physical abuse may be asked to resign voluntarily or may be suspended by the board until the matter is resolved. Regardless of criminal or civil guilt in the alleged abuse, the continued presence of the person could be detrimental to the reputation of the organization and could be harmful to the participants. A person who is accused but later cleared of charges, may apply to be reinstated within the organization. Reinstatement is not a right, and no guarantee is made that he or she will be reinstated to his/her former position. 12. We promote good sportsmanship throughout the organization and encourage qualities of mutual respect, courtesy and tolerance in all participants, coaches, officials and volunteers. We advocate building strong self-images among the youth participants. Children with a strong self-image may be less likely targets for abuse; similarly, they may be less likely to abuse or bully others around them
