US LACROSSE CODE OF CONDUCT Players, coaches, officials, parents and spectators are to conduct themselves in a manner that "Honors the Game" and demonstrates respect to other players, coaches, officials, parents and spectators fans. In becoming a member of the lacrosse community an individual assumes certain obligations and responsibilities to the game of lacrosse and its participants. The essential elements in this "Code of Conduct" are HONESTY and INTEGRITY. Those who conduct themselves in a manner that reflects these elements will bring credit to the sport of lacrosse, themselves, their team and their organization. It is only through such conduct that our sport can continue to earn and maintain a positive image and make its full contribution to amateur sports in the United States and around the world. US Lacrosse supports the following behaviors for those who participate in the sport or are involved in any way with US Lacrosse. The following essential elements of the "Code of Conduct" must be followed: Sportsmanship and teaching the concepts of fair play are essential to the game and must be taught at all levels and developed both at home and on the field during practices and games. The value of good sportsmanship, the concepts of fair play, and the skills of the game should always be placed above winning. The safety and welfare of the players are of primary importance. Coaches must always be aware of the tremendous influence they have on their players. They are to strive to be positive role models in dealing with young people, as well as adults. Coaches should always demonstrate positive behaviors and reinforce them to players, parents, officials and spectators alike. Players should be specifically encouraged and positively reinforced by coaches to demonstrate respect for teammates, opponents, officials and spectators.

7 Players should always demonstrate positive behavior and respect toward teammates, opponents, coaches, officials, parents and spectators. Coaches, players, parents and spectators are expected to demonstrate the utmost respect for officials and reinforce that respect to players/teammates. Coaches are also expected to educate their players as to the important role of lacrosse officials and reinforce the ideal of respect for the official to players/teammates. Grievances or misunderstandings between coaches, officials or any other parties involved with the sport should be communicated through the proper channels and procedures, never on or about the field of play in view of spectators or participants. Officials are professionals and are therefore expected to conduct themselves as such and in a manner that demonstrates total impartiality, courtesy and fairness to all parties. Spectators involved with the game must never permit anyone to openly or maliciously criticize badger, harass or threaten an official, coach, player or opponent. Coaches must be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of the rules of lacrosse, and should adhere to the rules in both the letter and the spirit of the game. Coaches should provide a basic knowledge of the rules to both players and spectators within his/her program. Attempts to manipulate rules in an effort to take unfair advantage of an opponent, or to teach deliberate unsportsmanlike conduct, is considered unacceptable conduct. Eligibility requirements, at all levels of the game, must be followed. Rules and requirements such as age, previous level of participation, team transfers, etc, have been established to encourage and maximize participation, fair play and to promote safety COACH, FAN & PARENT CONDUCT: To assure a positive culture for the sport of lacrosse all players, parents and coaches should have been given copies of the US Lacrosse Code of Conduct during the regular season. Additionally, we will follow the U.S. Lacrosse sportsmanship/purple card procedures and termination criteria. The card is a warning for poor conduct that could lead to ejection or termination of the game. Ejection or termination, under some circumstances, can occur prior to the issuance of a card. All fans must be on the opposite side of the field from the players prior to the start of the game by the official. The official or Tournament Director may stop the game at any time to enforce this rule. A team whose fans do not cooperate with this rule or otherwise act inappropriately will forfeit the game at the discretion of the official or Tournament Director. Officials and Tournament Director are encouraged to stop play if a fan or coach is being abusive or acting contrary to the spirit of good sportsmanship and will call both coaches together to resolve the matter. If the problem persists the official and/or Tournament Director may eject any coaches or fans and may declare the game 7

8 over. The team with the offending individual(s) will forfeit the game and its opponent will be declared the winner. Any violent contact from a fan or coach will result in immediate termination, and the Eagle County Sheriff will be dispatched. Once the decision has been made to terminate a game there will be no opportunity for appeal and the offender(s) will be asked to immediately leave the premises. APPEALS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. COME READY TO PLAY AND HAVE FUN! US LACROSSE AND THE POSITIVE COACHING ALLIANCE Lacrosse is the oldest American sport. Native Americans played lacrosse centuries ago, long before our colonies were settled. Through lacrosse, Native Americans celebrated and emphasized their spiritual and cultural values. In an effort to promote appropriate values in the modern game, US Lacrosse has partnered with the Positive Coaching Alliance to promote positive coaching and good sportsmanship at all levels of lacrosse. US Lacrosse has included the following "Lacrosse Code of Conduct" as part of its membership application to encourage and foster appropriate values in players, coaches, parents, officials and spectators. US Lacrosse believes that it should be a priority of every lacrosse player, team, program and league to "Honor the Game". Open Wound Policy Players will be removed from the playing field and will be restricted from retuning to play until being cleared by a trainer. Rosters ROSTERS: Only teams that played together during the regular season will be allowed to enter the Eagle County Lax Jam. This is subject to tournament director and prior approval. Any team in violation of this rule may be penalized by the Tournament Director, which may include forfeiture or expulsion. All teams entered may be spot checked by the Tournament Director. SEEDING, BRACKETING: All teams must play in the division/ bracket in which they have been playing during the regular season. All age-combined teams must play at the higher age level of the combination. Teams can elect to play up an age division but not down. If they elected to play up during the regular season they have to play up for the Lax Jam. Selective teams formed by tryouts of the best players from a club or area which are playing in separate competitive circumstances do not constitute regular-season teams according to Lax Jam definition and are not therefore allowed to enter the tournament. 8

9 Rules of Play CLOCK: Games start on the hour and include two twenty-minute running halves and a 5-minute half time. The time will be kept by the on field official. Penalties will be assessed at 30 and 60 seconds for technical fouls with possession, and personal fouls, respectively. Teams not ready to face off on the hour, and at the start of the second half, will be assessed a 60- second delay of game penalty. The clock stops and starts when the whistle is blown under any and all circumstances. No exceptions. Penalty clocks will stop during timeouts. It is an unsportsmanlike conduct for a man-down team, to in any way delay the start of play after the ball goes out of bounds. Clock will only stop due to injury. TIME OUTS: One 1-minute time out is allowed to each team per half. The game clock will not be stopped. Any team winning will not be allowed a time out during the last two minutes of play. A team in a man down situation may not call a time out in the last 2 minutes of either half. Official time outs will not stop the clock. The clock will not stop for any reason. Games may end in a tie. PENALTIES: Technical foul is 30 seconds; personal foul is 1 minute. Unsportsmanlike conduct this penalty carries a mandatory 1-3 minute non-releasable penalty. If a player or coach has more than one of these in a game, it s a mandatory ejection. Penalty will start when referee blows whistle to restart play. POINT SYSTEM: All teams will play in a round-robin format. Each division may be structured differently based on the amount of teams registered. Each team shall be awarded points on the following basis: Win = 5 points; Tie = 2 points; Loss = 0 points. The top two point totals for each grade level shall be awarded first and second place respectively. In the event of a point tie, the team who gave up the least amount of points during the tournament will be deemed the tournament champion. 9
