4 WEEKEND SNAPSHOT The Hoosiers compete in two of their three remaining Big Ten duals this coming weekend. Up first, No. 16 Indiana heads to Hawkeye country to take their shot at unbeaten Iowa. On Sunday, February 7, the Hoosiers return to host No. 24 Purdue. The weekend s duals could play a vital role in the Hoosiers potential seeds for the Big Ten Championships. HAWKEYE HOMECOMING Head coach Duane Goldman returns to his alma mater (Iowa, 1986) for the seventh time in his 23 seasons with Indiana. As a Hawkeye, Goldman tallied a career record over four seasons, winning the Big Ten Championship all four years. He reached the NCAA Championship bout four times in his career, winning the NCAA Championship in IU-PURDUE SERIES The Hoosiers and Boilermakers take the mat on Sunday for the 92nd time since their first meeting in Indiana leads the overall series, , but Purdue has taken the last five dual meetings. The Hoosiers most recent dual win against Purdue came in 2010, a victory in Bloomington. LAST TIME: BLANTON UPENDS STIEBER Indiana is back to double duty this weekend after their one-match home stand against the No. 7 Ohio State Buckeyes. Sophomore Luke Blanton returned to winning form with an upset win over No. 11 Hunter Stieber. Elsewhere, Jake Danishek increased his winning streak to three bouts, and Jake Masengale got his second Big Ten dual win of the season. He ll face another Big Ten contender, No. 10 Alex Meyer, in Iowa City this weekend. True freshman Elijah Oliver maintained his No. 19 ranking after a loss to No. 1 Nathan Tomasello (Ohio State). He ll face his third top-five opponent in the past thirty days when he takes the mat against Iowa s No. 2 Thomas Gilman. UNDERCLASSMEN IMPACT Six of Indiana s 10 starters in their dual lineup are underclassmen, and they ve had strong showings throughout the season. The IU freshmen have achieved 17 podium finishes and four championships in tournament play. True freshmen Elijah Oliver (125) and Jake Danishek (157) are turning heads in their debut season. Oliver boasts a 24-5 record with 15 bonus point wins. Danishek is 14-5 with bonus points in four wins since his debut at Minnesota (12/11). IU HOSTS NWCA DUALS The Indiana Hoosiers join seven other Big Ten schools as hosts for the 2016 Division I National Championships Dual Series on Sunday, February 21. The event pits the Big Ten s best wrestling teams against the highest ranked dual meet champions from the seven other conferences in Division I. The other Big Ten host schools include No. 1 Penn State, No. 2 Iowa, No. 8 Michigan, No. 9 Ohio State, No. 11 Nebraska, No. 12 Rutgers, and No. 23 Minnesota. HOOSIERS IN COACHES PANEL The season s first coaches panel rankings were released. The rankings are a poll that goes a long way in determining the 33 grapplers in each weight class who will make the trip to Madison Square Garden for the 2016 NCAA Championships. Three Hoosiers received recognition in the first of four panel rankings. Nate Jackson (174) topped the list at #5, followed by Elijah Oliver (125) at #21 and Luke Blanton (149) at #29. BTN PLUS The Hoosier wrestlers will appear eight times on BTN Plus (formerly Big Ten Digital Network) for the season, which will also include Friday s dual against Ohio State. Indiana s dual at Michigan State on January 22 will air live on the Big Ten Network.
