3 Help Sheet Area is the total surface covered by a shape or region. It is expressed in square units (m 2, cm 2, etc.). To find the area of a rectangular figure, multiply the length by the width. Mean (average) is found by dividing the total of all of the numbers by how many numbers are in the group. A double bar graph is a graph that uses pairs of bars to show relationships between data. Average Heights Height (cm) Age (years) Boys Girls Faces are the surfaces of a three-dimensional object. Face Edges are where the faces of a three-dimensional object meet. Edge Perimeter is the total distance around the outside of a figure. It is expressed in linear units (km, m, cm, etc.). To find the perimeter of a figure, find the sum of the lengths of all the sides. Volume is the amount of space occupied by an object. It is expressed in cubic units (m 3, cm 3, etc.). To find the volume of a rectangular prism, multiply the length, the width and the height. Referent is a real representation of a unit of measure used to estimate.
