2 David Rudisha 3-Peats As Men s AOY And now Carl Lewis has company. He and David Rudisha are the only performers (man or woman) to top the AOY voting 3 years in a row. The 23-year-old Kenyan halfmiler did it largely on the strength of the Performance Of The Year, a wire-towire World Record run of 1:40.91 to win Olympic gold. If only votes for No. 1 had counted, Ashton Eaton would be AOY instead, as he was the most popular choice for the top spot. But multiple voters felt his 2-meet season just wasn t quite enough. So close was the voting that for the first time ever the No. 4 had an approval rating in the 80% range. 3 Valerie Adams Claims Women s AOY Title Field eventers in general and throwers in particular have a tough time getting elected as Athlete Of The Year, but New Zealand shot star Valerie Adams turned the trick in the Olympic year, becoming the first since East Germany s Ilona Slupianek in 80. The undefeated Kiwi won all 14 of her meets and had the year s 16 longest throws as she completely dominated her event.
