Chris Caswell of Southern Boating summed up Cheoy Lee s Serenity concept well, describing the Serenity 68 as an iron fist in a velvet glove. Construction is to Germanischer Lloyd classification standard. Cheoy Lee Serenity 68, from a company that knows a thing or two about long range cruising. From your earliest glimpse of the Cheoy Lee Serenty 68, it s going to be love at first sight. This is a yacht that is not only luxuriously appointed, but gloriously tempting. She is the sort of yacht that makes you want to get out the charts, plan a voyage, set a course. Head offshore for grand adventures. The graceful curve of the sheer line draws on her classic lineage, and ensures that she will retain her good looks for decades, when faddish yachts seem dated. But look closer: this is no marina queen destined to sit dockside. This is a yacht meant to venture far offshore, and she has a seamanlike heritage from the rugged anchor plates at the bow to the Portuguese bridge to the oversized rails surrounding the deck. She is, in fact, not really a yacht. The Serenity 68 is a little ship. The hull is solid fiberglass with no wood or coring, giving it unequaled strength and longevity. The deck and house use foam-cored and resin-infused laminates to create components that are both light and strong, enhancing stability and increasing fuel economy. Unlike other builders, you will not find any wood in the structure of the Serenity 68, or indeed any modern Cheoy Lee yacht. This eliminates any problems associated with rot that would otherwise invariably lead to deterioration of the structure over time. No wood. At all. The fuel water and waste tanks are molded into the hull as a double bottom, providing several benefits. The tank material will never corrode; the center of gravity is lowered; and they act as a second hull in case the outer hull is holed. Each Serenity 68 design has been fully approved by Germanischer Lloyd and meets European CE standards. Owners may opt for full class certification, Hull Construction Certification (HCC) and CE marking. Cheoy Lee also holds the prestigious ISO 9001:2000 certification of manufacturing standards. The yacht also meets all the recommendations of the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC). Not sure what these certifications mean? Ask your insurance agent. Design Development of the Serenity 68 started by assembling a team of qualified professionals, all with long and established relationships with Cheoy Lee. Naval architect Mike Burvenich and stylist David Bentley worked together to create an extremely seakindly full displacement yacht with a 2,420nm range at 8.7 knots (as tested by Power & Motoryacht magazine), while embodying the new generation of style that the Serenity 68 brings to the offshore cruising yacht. Once the lines were completed, Cheoy Lee brought in High Modulus, the renowned structural engineering company whose portfolio ranges from America s Cup yachts to military craft. As the world leader in composite engineering, High Modulus carried out a comprehensive structural analysis, and then provided an optimized construction program that included a complete set of structural design drawings, incorporating specific requirements for reinforcing high-load and other sensitive areas. At that point, the plans and specifications were rigorously examined by Germanischer Lloyd before their stamp of approval was issued. Equipment The United States is the largest market for Cheoy Lee yachts, and the Serenity 68 owner benefits from equipment and systems built for the North America market. In fact, for American clients, Cheoy Lee acquires everything from stabilizers to door knobs, galley appliances to electronics, in the U.S. and ships container loads to the shipyard on a monthly basis. For other markets too, Cheoy Lee pays specific attention to ensuring owners are fully supported when their yacht enters into service. Just as important, every piece of equipment on the Serenity 68 was chosen for reliability and suitability, and supported by our 24/7 service team. And, because the Serenity 68 is a small ship, she is equipped to much higher standards than other yachts of her class, from the husky pantograph pilothouse doors to the oversized wipers that can clear the windshield in the worst conditions. Redundancy is another word you ll use when you describe the Serenity 68; major systems are designed so that you ll have back ups when the unexpected occurs. Dual generators plus an available inverter for stand-alone power, dual fuel filters so you can change one without shutting down an engine, and not just dual anchors, but two windlasses for full redundancy. And no other builder offers the Cheoy Lee Yacht Management System (YMS), a comprehensive monitoring system that is standard on every Serenity 68. With YMS, the skipper is immediately alerted to the usual water and smoke alarms, but it also monitors such items as the navigation lights (is a bulb burned out?), bilge pump usage, and even provides alarms for the entry doors, information is clearly displayed on an easy to read LCD display.
