1 Bayview Yacht Club 2018 Spring Match Racing Invitational Bayview Yacht Club, Detroit, Michigan June 8-10, 2018 Notice of Race 1 ORGANIZING AUTHORITY The Organizing Authority (OA) will be US Sailing in conjunction with Bayview Yacht Club. 2 VENUE The venue will be the waters of the Detroit River, south of Bayview Yacht Club in Detroit, Michigan. 3 EVENT GRADING The event has applied for World Sailing Grade 3. This grading is subject to review by World Sailing. The event may be re-graded when there is clear reason to do so. 4 PROVISIONAL PROGRAM 4.1 Schedule: (a) Race office opens Friday June 8, 2018 at 1200 hrs. (b) Registration - Friday June 8, 2018 from hrs. (c) Crew weigh-in - Friday June 8, 2018 from 12:00 19:00 hours. (d) Practice Friday June 8, 2018 from 12:00 19:00 hours. (e) First briefing at 08:30 Saturday June 9, (Sunday briefing at 08:30 hours) (f) First meeting with umpires at 08:00 hours Saturday June 9, (g) Racing days will be June 9 & 10, (h) Time of the first warning signal on Saturday June 9, 2018 will be 10:00 hours. (09:30 hours Sunday June 10, 2018) (i) There will be no attention signal after 16:00 hours on Sunday June 10, (j) Prize giving on Sunday June 10, 2018 will be immediately after racing. 4.2 Unless excused by the OA, attendance at the following is mandatory: (a) Initial briefing for skippers and crews. (b) Daily briefing for skippers. (c) Prize giving for the final skippers and crews. 5 SKIPPERS ELIGIBILITY 5.1 As many as ten (10) skippers may be invited. Only skippers invited by the OA will be eligible to enter this event. 5.2 The registered skipper shall helm the boat at all times while racing, except in an emergency.

2 To remain eligible a skipper shall confirm acceptance of invitation in writing ( is acceptable) to be received by April 16, All competitors shall meet the eligibility requirements of World Sailing regulation All competitors shall obtain a World Sailing Sailor ID by registering online at Skippers shall inform the OA of their World Sailing Sailor ID at registration. 5.5 MNA membership requirements. All US competitors shall be members of US Sailing and a sailing organization that is also US Sailing member. (a) Eligible crews do not have to be members of the club represented by the eligible skipper. The Yacht club represented is the organization of which the skipper is a member. (b) If a competitor is not a US citizen or permanent resident, they must be a member of their MNA. 6 ENTRIES 6.1 The skipper shall be entered on completion of registration, crew weigh-in, and the payment of all fees and deposits. 6.2 Entry Fee; A non-refundable entry fee of $350 shall be paid at the time of registration. Paid members of the BYC Club Boat Fleet will be charged $ Damage Deposit (a) An initial Damage Deposit of $1,000 to be paid at registration is required of non BYC Club fleet members. (b) In the event a portion of the damage deposit is used during the event, the skipper may be required to restore that deposit to $1,000 in order to continue in the event. (c) Any remaining deposit after the event will be refunded within 30 days after the event. 6.4 Insurance. All competitors are required to have adequate third party insurance. 7 RULES 7.1 (a) US Sailing s Championship Committee Conditions will apply to this event. (b) The event will be governed by the rules as defined in the RRS, including Appendix C. (c) US Sailing prescriptions 67 and 76.1 will be posted in the regatta notice board and will apply. (d) The rules for the handling of boats as set forth under the Bayview Yacht Club Boat Program will apply, and will also apply to any practice sailing. Class rules will not apply. 7.2 Major Alterations to the RRS. (a) Add to RRS 41: (e) help to recover from the water and return on board a crew member provided the return is at the approximate location of the recovery. (b) RRS C8.6, C6.3, 28.1, 31, 60.1 (b), 62.1(a), 63.1 and A5 will be changed in the sailing instructions. 7.3 USCG or country MNA (for entrants outside the US) approved PFDs shall be worn at all times by competitors while on the water, other than brief periods while adding or removing clothing. The Y flag will not be flown. This modifies RRS 40. All competitors shall supply their own PFDs. 8 BOATS AND SAILS 8.1 The event will be sailed in Ultimate 20 type boats.

3 8.2 As many as ten (10) boats may be provided by the Bayview Yacht Club. 8.3 The following sails will be provided for each boat: Mainsail, Jib, and Spinnaker. 8.4 Boats will be allocated by draw on the first day, and thereafter either daily or for each round or stage as decided by the Race Committee. 9 CREW (INCLUDING SKIPPER) 9.1 The number of crew (including the skipper) shall be three (3) or four (4). All registered crew shall sail all races. 9.2 The total weight of the crew, including the skipper, dressed in at least shorts and shirts shall not exceed lbs. or 262 kgs, determined at the time of registration or such time as required by the Race Committee. 9.3 When a registered skipper is unable to continue in the event, the OA may authorize an original crew member to substitute in accordance with the Championship Committee Conditions. 9.4 When a registered crew member is unable to continue in the event, the OA may authorize a substitute, a temporary substitute or other adjustment in accordance with the Championship Committee Conditions. 10 EVENT FORMAT 10.1 The event format will consist of the following stages: Stage 1: Round Robin Racing Stage 2: Knockout Series and Finals The RC may change the format, terminate any stage, or the event when in its opinion, it is impractical to attempt to hold the remainder of the matches under the existing conditions or in the remaining time scheduled. Early stages may be terminated in favor of later stages. 11 COURSE 11.1 The course will be windward/leeward with starboard rounding s, finishing downwind The intended course area will be the Detroit River in the vicinity of the Bayview Yacht Club. 12 ADVERTISING Boats may be required to display advertising chosen and supplied by the organizing authority. 13 PRIZES 13.1 Invitations - The top placing eligible skipper will receive an invitation to compete in the following: (a) The Grade 2 Grand Slam International Match Race for The Detroit Cup August 23-26, 2018, hosted by Bayview Yacht Club; (b) The Grade 2 Grand Slam - Thompson Cup, September hosted by Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club (c) The US Match Race Championship - hosted by Chicago Yacht Club, Oct , 2018 (d) The YRUGL Richardson Cup Great Lakes Match Racing Championship As DRYA representative to the Richardson Cup, the top placing eligible skipper will be awarded the Dynamite Trophy.

4 13.3 Should the qualifying skipper decline his/her spot (or have already received an invitation) the next highest skipper may be considered for invitation at the discretion of the individual Organizing Authorities. Prizes will be awarded for 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd places. 14 MEDIA, IMAGES AND SOUND The OA and/or sponsors may require television personnel and equipment (or dummies) to be carried on board while racing and may require competitors to be available for interviews. The OA and sponsors shall have the right to use any images and sound recorded during the event free of any charge. 15 Coaching The event is a grade 3 Coaching event as outlined in the US Sailing s Coach Policy 16 US Sailing Regulations 16.1 US Sailing Regulation 10 (a) Prohibited Substances - For adult US Sailing championship events, no competitor shall use, either on or off the water, marijuana or any other controlled substance as defined by State of Federal law. (b) An alleged breach of this requirement shall not be grounds for a protest. However, when the protest committee believes that a competitor may have breached the above requirements, it shall follow the process described in the US Sailing Championships Code of Conduct. If under 18, a parent or guardian as well as the sailor must submit a signed copy US Sailing Regulations Championship Conditions shall govern at all US Sailing Championship and Qualifying Events. The regulations can be found at 17 BOX LUNCHES Will be available for purchase. 18 PRACTICE SAILING Boats will be available for practice on Friday, June 8, 2018 from 12:00 to 19:00 hrs. Competitors must complete all registration requirements before being allowed to take a boat for practice. A limited number of boats are available for practice, requests will be handled on a first come, first serve basis. Practice time may be limited to 4 hours. 19 DISCLAIMER All those taking part in this event do so at their own risk.
