The 52EU s Ken Smith-designed hull, the same semidisplacement form that has proven so successful in thousands of Grand Banks for decades, is no exception. With a fine entry forward, hard chines aft and a full keel, the design has shown its strength in all manner of seas around the world. It also makes an ideal platform for long-range coastal cruising: by maintaining stability and efficiency at slower speeds, it can carry the load of fuel and stores you need to travel long distances between ports. It maintains a steady speed even under rough sea conditions. At the same time, the semi-displacement form delivers better speeds while retaining fuel economy when compared to trawler yachts with pure displacement hulls. The result is a comfortable, efficient and sea-kindly ride through the full speed range, with great stability in all manner of seas. Just as important as the design of her hull is its construction a time-tested process that is renowned for producing seaworthy, long-lasting boats. The 52EU features a solid FRP hull, using the highest quality fiberglass fabrics expertly hand laid and laminated with resins selected for their ability to resist blistering. Another example of Grand Banks meticulous approach to construction is the use of clear gel coat below the waterline, which allows for a thorough and rigorous visual inspection of the laminate during the QC process. Additionally, the hull bottom of each 52EU receives three layers of epoxy barrier coat, which dramatically reduces the chance of osmosis. A close look at any Grand Banks hull will reveal a beautiful, mirror-like gel coat finish that is built to look new for many years to come. Like all GBs, the 52EU is engineered and constructed to the highest technical and engineering standards, including ABYC, ISO and CE requirements for safety, reliability and maintenance.
