3 Mi-TIC S. As the world s smallest NFPA certified thermal imager to feature a large format, high resolution display it is also the most advanced thermal imager for firefighters ever developed. Designed for everyday use, the Mi-TIC S is lightweight, simple to use, very robust and with the new additional features as standard offers exceptional value for money. TT-TYPE The TT-TYPE thermal camera has been specifically designed to help marine personnel to observe and search for the heat signatures of people, obstacles and approaching vessels. The TT-TYPE combines the classic torchlight ergonomics with the latest in infrared technology to create the definitive marine search tool. From private yachts to large commercial vessels, the TT-TYPE has proven to be an invaluable aid for marine safety. MDC150 The MDC150 is a next generation dive computer, with real-time data/decompression logging and a custom interface. The MDC150 is fully reconfigurable with reprogramming capability as end user needs change. The multiple decompression algorithm feature allows for specific end user decompression system options to be added. With high resolution graphics providing enhanced resolution and backlighting for ultra-clear messaging and a long battery life, the MDC150 from AUS sets the standard for the military. MCM100 Avon Underwater Systems Mine Counter Measures (MCM100) rebreather is a multi-capability under water life support system (LSS), which acts as a flexible platform to meet all Underwater Breathing Apparatus (UBA) usage. NH15 COMBO Built on the proven technology of the NH15, the smallest and lightest NIOSH and CE certified air purifying escape hood ever developed, the NH15 Combo delivers the proven performance and functionality of the NH15 and adds an advanced media to provide carbon monoxide (CO) protection. Providing a high level of respiratory, eye and face protection for a minimum of fifteen minutes, the NH15 Combo not only protects against all airborne CBRN and CO threats but also protects the face from liquid agent splashes. 3

6 HAVING PERSONALLY EXPERIENCED THE HORROR OF A MAN OVERBOARD SITUATION AND WITH THE LOSS OF MY FATHER 20 YEARS AGO IN A DROWNING INCIDENT, I HAVE A PERSONAL QUEST TO DRIVE THE USE OF TECHNOLOGY TO HELP LIMIT THE DEATHS THAT OCCUR FROM THIS TRAGIC BUT COMMON ACCIDENT. COLD WATER MAN OVERBOARD (M0B) During the inquest into my father s death, the boat manufacturer stated that our yacht was supposedly unsinkable and contained many flotation tanks. Even though my father and all the crew were wearing lifejackets that day, my father and one other crew member died. The yacht was never found and I can only assume lies at the bottom of the River Humber, close to Hessle Whelps where she capsized. There are several fundamental issues that cause this common emergency to end in disaster. Cold shock is one of the most common. Assuming you survive this, you quickly begin to hyperventilate, heart racing, blood pressure spiking and panicking as you desperately try to get air into your lungs. In some individuals this could cause cardiac arrest. Cold incapacity is another problem that was experienced by a crew member from another yacht, who dived in to try and save my father. After a few minutes your limbs are affected, neuromuscular activity slows and the body fluids literally congeal in the muscles. Survivors have reported that after a few minutes it was impossible to open a package of flares or tie a knot. After 10 minutes in cold water your arms and legs will no longer respond to your will and only a short swim will be possible. Finally after 20 to 30 minutes your core body temperature will drop significantly and depending on the type of clothing you are wearing hypothermia will set in. At this point you have approximately 30 mins of useful consciousness left. On all commercial vessels there are standard procedures for MOB and these are drilled into the crew, despite this people still die in these situations. In a report commissioned by the Commercial Fishing Industry Vessel Safety Advisory Committee over a period of 11 years, 153 commercial fisherman lost their lives in MOB accidents. The number is significantly more if you include charter boats, cruise ships and the relatively new taxi services for wind farms and gas platforms. In reality victims have the absolute maximum of an hour or so, to survive in a MOB situation - providing you are wearing good floatation devices with a GPS tracker, the crew spot that you re overboard and they have practised their MOB procedure, and you ve manage to get past cold shock and cold incapacity. Considering all of this, and the fact that many vessels can take 20 to 30 minutes to execute their emergency turns, even before they can begin looking for you, it s cutting it close in a huge expanse of ocean. Every second counts. Thermal imaging is an incredibly valuable tool to aid quick rescue in a MOB situation and many commercial vessels have thermal imagers at fixed points above the bridge. All too often these cameras are large, inflexible and slow in their operation. The cost-effective handheld devices are quick to boot up and operate at close quarters below the hull line as well as for scanning the water. The Avon P-Type camera has an operational range of between 250 metres to 1.75 Km depending on which lens you are using. It is rugged and waterproof, charges in situ from a 12 or 24v supply and achieves operational start-up within 5 seconds. The P-Type is ideal for a MOB situation because it adapts the colour palette of the displayed image, to clearly identify an object with a temperature of only a few degrees above the water temperature. Any object with a warmer temperature, such as torso, head, arms and hands appears in colour, while the rest of the image is monochrome. In a situation where a rapid rescue is crucial, this ability to quickly scan, detect and acquire objects is vital. The P-Type camera is much more cost-effective than a fixed thermal imaging solution and allows you to customise it, to suit the vessel. It even has a customised splash screen on start-up for the vessel name or company logo. Mark Ridsdale, Regional Sales Manager, Avon Protection. VISIBLE IMAGE COLOUR MODE ENABLED IMAGES 6
