Improved Non-flammable Aerosol Propellant Aerosol propellants are constantly developing and improving in line with safety and environmental demands. Regulatory requirements are driving the move towards a cleaner, greener and safer future. Recent technical advancements driven by the Kyoto Protocol have led to the development of a family of chemicals known as hydrofluoro-olefins, which includes a new aerosol propellant known as Solstice Propellant. MTi Group is pleased to announce that Blast Bag Solo now inflates using Solstice Propellant (HFO-1234ze) (MSDS attached). This new aerosol propellant is manufactured by Honeywell and is classified by the Australian Government s National Industrial Chemical Notification and Assessment Scheme (NICNAS) as a non-flammable gas and classified under the Australian Dangerous Goods Code as a Class2, Division 2.2 non-flammable and nontoxic gas (Assessment Reference EX / 182 (STD 1415) dated April 2013.* MTi Group is committed to safety and believes Honeywell Solstice Propellant provides our customers with the safest, most technologically advanced and cost effective Blast Bag solution. * An alternative gas Dimethylether (DME) (CAS ) and additives was analysed by MTi Group. Dimethylether is defined as extremely flammable as a gas and is classified under the Australian Dangerous Goods Codes as Class2, Division 2.1 flammable. In MTi Group s opinion, using this gas to inflate gas bags poses an inherent risk to operators as inflated bags will contain an extremely flammable gas. Advantages of Honeywell Solstice Propellant 1. 3 2. Chemeleon : An Innovative Safety Feature Chemeleon All MTi Group Blast Bags will soon be fitted with a Chemeleon logo. This thermo-chromatic protection indicator uses a series of heat sensitive inks that change colour with temperature. These colour changes assist to identify and ensure correct storage and safe handling as per Australian Standard Aerosol Containers.
