TRAINING TITLE NECESSITY OF SAFETY PRECAUTION IN RELATION TO MAN,MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT IN MANUFACTURING INDUSTRIES

OBJECTIVE OF THE TRAINING AT THE END OF THE TRAINING ONE SHOULD BE ABLE TO KNOW : Meaning of Safety Precaution? Some Safety Precautions to follow in Manufacturing industries? Why Safety Precaution?

WHAT MAKES SAFETY PRECAUTION? Before Safety Precaution can be explained, the meaning of safety must be known as well as the meaning of precaution. These two words combine together to give Safety Precaution. The meaning will be treated in the next slide.

WHAT IS SAFETY? SAFETY can be defined as the condition of being protected from or unlikely to cause danger, risk or injury. It can be also said to be the condition of being SAFE, freedom from danger, risk and injury. SAFETY is no accident.

WHAT IS PRECAUTION? PRECAUTION can be defined as a measure taken in advance to prevent something dangerous, unpleasant, injury and inconvenient from happening. It also means exactly what it sound like the prefix PRE- means BEFORE while CAUTION means CAREFULLNESS in the face of danger.

MEANING OF SAFETY PRECAUTION According to the meaning of SAFETY and PRECAUTION. Safety Precaution can be said to be any action taken before any TASKS to prevent DANGER, RISK,INJURY OR ACCIDENT during the TASKS. Here TASKS can be operation of Industrial machines/ equipment or maintenance of Industrial machines/equipment in any manufacturing industry.

SAFETY PRECAUTION ON MACHINES OPERATION In operation of any machine, there is operating safety precaution according to their Standard Operation Procedure(SOP). This SOP should be followed properly when any machine is being operated in any manufacturing industry. Some of Safety precaution for operation of industrial machine are highlighted as follows:

SAFETY PRECAUTION ON MACHINES OPERATION CONTINUE Necessary personal protective equipment (PPE)must be put on properly before operating any machine, such as safety goggle, safety gloves, safety boot, safety clothing, if applied. Do not wear loosed cloth/overall or jewelry when working on moving machine. Keep the machines clean and in good condition.

SAFETY PRECAUTION ON MACHINES OPERATION CONTINUE All machinery must have the manufacturer s installed safety guards and ensure all machines guards are in position. Do not run or start any machine unless you are trained on it. Isolate any machine from current before making any adjustment.

SAFETY PRECAUTION ON MACHINES OPERATION CONTINUE Do not clean machine when it is running or working. Do not touch moving part of a machine when machine is running. Switch off the machine immediately when anything goes wrong.

SAFETY PRECAUTION ON MACHINES OPERATION CONTINUE All equipment or machinery must be shut down when not in use Anyone working on a machine under the influence of drugs or alcohol should be stopped. All equipment/machines safety device must be in good condition.

SAFETY PRECAUTION ON MACHINES OPERATION CONTINUE Concentrate on what you are doing whenever you are operating any machine. Do not play practical jokes when operating any machine. Do not take chance when operating a machine. Do not direct compressed air on yourself or your colleague,it CAN KILL.

SAFETY PRECAUTION ON MAINTENANCE OF MACHINES Necessary personal protective equipment (PPE)must be put on properly before any machine maintenance can be done such as safety gloves, safety boot, safety clothing /overall etc. You must know the working principle of a machine/equipment before you can carry out maintenance on it.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE)

SAFETY PRECAUTION ON MAINTENANCE OF MACHINES CONTINUE Machines should be shut down before any maintenance can be carried out. Use the right tools for the right job. Do not use defect tools e.g. Damage cable, meters, hammer, spanners etc No machine should be modified by personnel who is not specifically trained on the technical aspects of the machine.

SAFETY PRECAUTION ON MAINTENANCE MACHINES CONTINUE Keep your workbench and your work area clean. Never leave tools layout where they may cause injury Tools should be properly stored when not in use. Machines should be installed in well ventilated place.

WHY SAFETY PRECAUTION? Without safety precaution, accident, injury and loss of life are bound to happen. Before you start using any machine you need to think about what risks may occur and how these can be managed. THIS LEAD TO SAFETY PRECAUTION.

WHY SAFETY PRECAUTION CONTINUE Accident or injury did not happen without a cause and these are major causes of accident Lack of training. Missing or loosed machine guards. Unauthorized person/untrained person running a machine or doing maintenance. Carelessness or uncared attitude.
