This manual is important for getting the full potential out of your equipment furniture; please read it before use. If you need further information, or would like to order more, please contact us at: Tel: Fax: The Instruction Manual applies to the Cushionair cushion by Accora. Please read carefully before setting up and using in the chair and keep in a safe place for future reference. These instructions include details on the performance of the Cushionair cushion. If the Cushionair cushion malfunctions, shows signs of damage or excessive wear, or is otherwise unsuitable, please take it out of service and contact your supplier immediately. The Cushionair cushion should be regularly checked to ensure the setup is correct and it is working as intended for the user. Setup of Cushionair cushion The Cushionair cushions is a powered alternating air cushion. Regular alternation of the cell inflation stimulates blood flow which can help heal skin tissue. Below is a guide for setting up the Cushionair cushion for Configura chairs. Please note that professional input may be required from a Tissue Viability Nurse or District Nurse. This guidance should be used in conjunction with regular monitoring of the user s pressure care requirements. A cushion is just one of many factors influencing the risk of developing pressure damage. 1) Ensure the cushion is fitted to the chair correctly as per the instructions below. 2) Ensure the cushion is switched on and that the green light is showing on the pump. 3) Ensure the pipes are channelled through the back of the chair correctly and that the pump is in a safe place behind the chair. 4) When the cells have fully inflated, transfer the user onto the chair. 5) Use the following guidance as an approximation for the setting of the dial of the pump according to the weight of the user: Setting Alternating Approx Weight Mode Pressure of User Low 40 <40kg (6 stone) Middle 60 40kg (6 stone) ~ 70kg (11 stone) High 80 70kg (11 stone) ~ 130kg (21 stone) Maximum Weight Capacity 130kg (21 stone) Accora Configura assessment helpline: configura@accora.uk.com 3

5 1 Power Switch Press the Power Switch to turn the power ON/ OFF, and to start/ stop the pump. Adaptor inlet 2 Mode Selection Key Press the Mode Selection Key (2) to select ALTERNATING or STATIC mode. 3 Cycle Time Selection Key Press the Cycle Time Selection Key (3) to set the ALTERNATING cycle time for 5 minutes or 10 minutes. 4 Pressure Setting Key Press the Pressure Setting Key (4) to set the pressure HIGH, MEDIUM, or LOW. 5 Mute Key Press the Mute Key (5) to disable / enable the audible alarm. 6 Battery Status Indication i) The BATTERY CHARGE LED (green) blinks when the battery is being charged. ii) The Low Battery LED (red) blinks when the battery is low on charge. The adaptor inlet is located at the top of the pump. When charging the pump, insert the adaptor connector to the adaptor inlet, and then plug the adaptor to an in-wall AC outlet. Inflation nozzles 7 Mode Indication The ALTERNATE LED (green) is ON when the pump is in alternating mode and the STATIC LED (amber) is ON when the pump is in static mode. 8 Cycle Time Indication The 5 mins LED (green) is ON when the alternating cycle time is 5 minutes, and the 10 mins LED (green) is ON when the alternating cycle is 10 minutes. 9 Pressure Indication The current pressure is shown by 3 LEDS (green) HIGH PRESSURE, MIDDLE PRESSURE or LOW PRESSURE. The inflation nozzles are at the top left of the pump. While in use, both the inflation tubes of the cushion should be connected (snapped in) to the inflation nozzles. 10 Mute Indication The MUTE LED (yellow) is ON when the MUTE mode is enabled and is OFF when the mute function is disabled. If the alarm occurs when MUTE mode is enabled, the MUTE LED blinks to indicate the alarm. Accora Configura assessment helpline: configura@accora.uk.com 5

6 Battery assembly 1 Unscrew the battery cover (back of the pump) and slide the cover open. n 4 Slide the battery cover closed and make sure if it firmly snapped in position. 2 Connect the battery male connector to the female connector inside the battery box. Push the connectors firmly onto the female connector to secure it. 5 Secure the battery cover with the screw. 3 Install the battery. 6 Put the pump in the bag (make sure the panel is facing the transparent side of the bag). 6 Accora Configura assessment helpline: configura@accora.uk.com

7 Operation Mode Selection There are two operation modes available:- ALTERNATING: In the ALTERNATING mode, the cells inflate and deflate in turn to change the contact area where the patient is supported. STATIC: In the STATIC mode, all cells are inflated simultaneously to give the patient an even support all over. The user may choose either the ALTERNATING or STATIC mode by pressing the Mode Selection Key (2). Alternating Cycle Time Selection There are two cycle times in the ALTERNATING mode 5 or 10 minutes. The user can choose by pressing the Mode Selection Key (2). Pressure Setting Three pressures are selectable with the pump Low, Medium and High. The user may select this by pressure the Pressure Setting Key (4). Troubleshooting Low Pressure Check if there is air leakage between the pump and the cushion connections or from the tubes:- n Check connectors between the air cushion and pump. n Check the cushion tubes, make sure no tubes are broken. n Set the pressure to maximum. Keep the tubes fully inflated and inspect for air leakage. n Check if there is any air leakage from cells. Ensure no leakage occurs. The pump doesn t work n Check if the battery capacity is too low. n Charge the battery. n Press Power Switch (1) to turn the pump ON. Check if it works. n If the pump still does not work, contact your local dealer or Accora. In case of alarm n Check if the cushion tubes are properly connected to the inflation nozzles. n Check if the cushion tubes are arranged correctly. Re-arrange if there are any kinks. n If the pump still does not work, contact your local dealer or Accora. Warning n When the battery capacity gets too low, the pump will give the user a warning signal. A BEEP tone will be heard and the LOW BATTERY LED (red) will start flashing. If the LOW BATTERY warning is ignored, about 30 minutes later, the pump will stop automatically after the second BEEP tones as the battery runs totally flat. n Note: the air cells will be inflated to the set pressure before the pump automatically stops. Alarm n When any of the program check failures occur, the pump will give the user an ALARM signal a lasting intermittent BEEP tone. However, if the alarm occurs in MUTE mode, no alarm tones will be heard, but the ALARM/ MUTE LED will blink. n Note: If the ALARM is ignored, the pump will stop automatically 80 seconds after ALARM. 8 Safety instructions n Before using the cushion, you must read the manual and use the cushion in accordance with it. n The cushion may only be operated by persons who are able to operate in accordance with the manual. n The operating staff should acquaint the patient with the control functions which apply to the patient. n When repairing the cushion, only original materials and components may be used, otherwise the manufacturer cannot guarantee against any damage that might occur. Warning n Accora shall not be held liable for any damage, injuries or accidents arising from negligence or use which is at variance with this manual. n This equipment is an electrical item and should be treated with caution. n Do not modify this equipment without authorisation of the manufacturer. Regulations The Cushionair range are a Medical Device Class 1. All electrical parts comply with BS EN : Cleaning Pump n Do not immerse or soak the pump unit. n Check for external damage before cleaning. n Place the pump on a work surface and spray or wipe the outside of the case with a suitable cleaning solution. n Wipe case with a clean cloth. Make sure all areas are clean top and bottom, both sides. n Spray cloth with cleaning solution and clean faceplate. Do not allow excess cleaning solution on faceplate or control panel. Allow surface to thoroughly dry after cleaning. n Do not use a Hypo carbonate or phenol based cleaning solution as this may cause damage to the case. n Plug pump into the mains and test to check normal operation. Cushion n Brush off or wipe down all surfaces of the cover with soap and water before wetting with any liquid disinfectant. n Covers are immersed and soaked in disinfectant for the required incubation time. n After pre-soaking, the cover is rinsed through a regular cycle with no soap, then laundered with mild detergent. Wash on coldest setting. n Covers are aerated until they are fully dry. n The air cells are unsnapped from one side and are sprayed on all sides with a disinfectant. Let it sit for required incubation time, then wipe down with a clean cloth. n After you remove all the air cells, the base has to be sprayed down with the disinfectant, inside and outside. 9 n Repeat the process with the tubing set: spray, incubate, and then wipe clean. n The pump bag should be turned inside out and completely wiped down using disinfectant solution. n Allow it to thoroughly air dry. Once the inside is dry, turn it back: wipe down the outside of the bag with disinfectant. n Drying of all the components must be done in a sunless area. Maintenance n Check the power cord and plug to see if there are any abrasions or excessive wear. n Check the air tubes to see if there are kinks or breaks. For replacement, please contact your local dealer or Accora. n Make sure the cushion tube is connected properly. n Check the cushion cover for signs of wear or damage. n Plug in the pump and check the airflow from the inflation nozzles. The airflow should alternate between nozzles every half-cycle time. n Check the air tubes to see if there are any kinks or breaks. n Make sure the power and power indicator are off when the switch is turned off. General protection n Protect from the elements. n Use only on a level debris free surface. Electrical limitations n Disconnect from the electrical supply before moving. n Disconnect from the electrical supply before undertaking any maintenance. n Use only genuine spare parts from the original manufacturer. n Do not increase the electrical fuse size in the plug or attempt to connect any other mains connection to the appliance. Storage n Lay the cushion out flat. n Roll the cushion up. n Do not fold, crease or stack the cushion. n Unplug the pump and store with proper identification tag. n Follow waste disposal regulations to dispose of the pump unit.
