2 SECTION 2 INFORMATION ON INGREDIENTS CAS Number : Not applicable for mixtures Hazardous Ingredients : Hazardous concentration of hydrogen sulphide (H 2S) gas can accumulate in storage tanks,marine vessel compartments, or other confined spaces that have contained this product. When opening hatches and dome covers stand upwind, keep face as far from the opening as possible and avoid breathing any gases or vapours. When exposure concentrations are unknown and respiratory protection is not used, personal H 2S warning devices should be worn. These devices should not be relied on to warn employee of life threatening concentration. Rotten egg odour of H 2S disappears quickly even though high concentration of H 2S are still present. H 2S fatigues sense of smell rapidly. Clothing soaked with this product should be removed and dry cleaning or laundered before reuse. Studies have shown that dry cleaning is at least five times more effective in removing mineral oil than laundering. Ash from the combustion of heavy oil contains vanadium, which is toxic or irritating when inhaled. Protection is recommended for workers cleaning boiler tubes and fire boxes. This should include approved respirator, goggles, gloves, and long sleeved, hooded coveralls. Call a doctor immediately. (Aspiration may cause chemical pneumonia). Eye Contact : Flush eyes immediately with fresh water for at least 15 minutes while holding the eyelids open. If irritation persists, see a doctor. Skin : Remove contaminated clothing. Wash skin thoroughly with soap and water. Launder contaminated clothing. Inhalation : Move exposed person to fresh air. If breathing has stopped, apply artificial respiration. Call a doctor immediately. See Respiratory Protection. Note to physician : Ingestion of this product or subsequent vomit can result in aspiration of high hydrocarbon liquid which can cause pneumonitis. 4 SECTION 7 ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES Leak/spill : Eliminate all sources of ignition including internal combustion engines and power tools. Ventilate areas and avoid breathing vapour. Clean up small spills using appropriate techniques such as sorbent materials or pumping. Where feasible and appropriate, remove contaminated soil. Follow prescribed procedures for reporting and responding to large release. SECTION 8 HANDLING AND STORAGE Handling : In accordance with Government Regulations. Storage : READ AND OBSERVE ALL PRECAUTIONS. - DO NOT USE OR STORE near flame, sparks or hot surfaces. Use and store only in cool, well ventilated area. - Keep container closed. - Do not heat, weld or drill container. - Replace cap or bung. - Empty container still contains hazardous explosive vapour or liquid. - Do not use container for other purpose such as storage of water, etc. CAUTION : Do not use pressure to empty drum or explosion may result. WARNING: Not to use portable heater. Toxic fumes may accumulate and cause death. SECTION 9 EXPOSURE CONTROL & PERSONAL PROTECTION a. Exposure Limit : Potential carcinogen : recommend coal tar pitch volatiles ( as benzene solubles ) 0.2 mg/m 3 TWA; H 2S TLV/TWA is 20 ppm ( ACGIH ) b. Engineering measures : NIL c. Personal protection : Eye Chemical type goggles or face shields optional. Skin Inhalation Ventilation Exposed employees should exercise reasonable personal cleanliness; this includes cleansing exposed skin areas several times daily with soap and water and laundering or dry cleansing solid work clothing at least weekly. This material may be an inhalation hazard and unless ventilation is adequate. The use of a positive pressure respirator is recomended if H 2S level is unknown or exceeds 20 ppm limit.
