1 Technical Information SITEMA - ocking Units Hydraulic or pneumatic actuation English translation of German original TI-F0-EN-0/06 Technical Information TI-F0 ocking Units Holding in both load directions Hydraulic or pneumatic actuation For further information on technical data and optional accessories, please see: Technical Data Sheets (chapter Synopsis of available types ) A detailed description of control, mounting and performance test of the ocking Units can be found in the Operating Manuals (chapter Synopsis of available types ). Purpose ocking Units clamp a shaft infinitely variably without changing its position, and absorb axial forces in both directions. Depending on their type they are released by hydraulic or pneumatic pressure. The clamping force is generated by spring action or by hydraulic pressure. Function 3 K +F ocking by springs / releasing by pressure Types KFH, KFP and others p If the unit is pressureless - as shown in the schematic drawing - the rod is clamped by spring force and the full nominal holding force can be carried. Proximity switch signals rod clamped. During every operational cycle, the 3/-way valve is actuated electrically and releases the ocking Unit. In all other operational conditions, as well as in case of power failure, emergency stop, etc. the locking unit is actuated, secures the rod and stops the load. In case of pressure failure, the load is secured in the same way. To avoid possible problems, the shaft should not be moved unless proximity switch signals clamping released. Clamping and releasing by pressure Types KB and KBP released assembly clamped -F Force/path diagram The clamping system consists of a conical sleeve () and a clamping ring (). The sleeve () is axially fixed in the housing (3), allowing only radial movement. The clamping ring () is guided by the housing (3) and is forced in an axial direction over the sleeve () to achieve the clamping action. The clamping force K is generated by pressure or spring action and is intensified by means of conical (or inclined) surfaces. The force releases the ocking Unit. A well-defined clearance ensures that the shaft can move without any friction. ocking Units absorb forces in both directions. In case of overload, the shaft slips through the clamping unit and will normally cause no damage. However, applications with recurrent overload should be avoided, except the ockung Unit is explicitly suited to this. Depending on force-level, slipping speed, and rod quality, seizing potential exists. p If port K is pressurized - as shown in the schematic drawing - the rod is clamped by force of the annular hydraulic (or pneumatic) piston and can hold a force proportional to the applied pressure. Using the nominal pressure, the full nominal holding force is achieved. Proximity switch signals rod clamped. By switching the valve, pressure is applied to port, which releases the ocking Unit. To avoid possible problems, the shaft should not be moved unless proximity switch signals clamping released. SITEMA GmbH & Co.KG. G.-Braun-Straße Karlsruhe (Germany). Phone: +49(0)7/ Fax: -. /

7 SITEMA ocking Units KFH ocking by spring force / hydraulic releasing TI-F50--EN-0/06 Purpose The ocking Unit KFH clamps a rod in any position. It is commonly used on cylinder rods or other round rods and holds axial forces in both directions. The ocking Unit KFH holds axial forces in both directions. hydraulic cylinder of oiston rods. Axial play A force in load direction is always held without backlash. If the force acts in load direction, no backlash will occur either with standard designs, provided that the force does not exceed 80 % of the nominal holding force (F). In the case of exceedance, the possible axial displacement is 0. to 0.3 mm. Control In most applications, an actuation as suggested in the drawing below is used. During every operational cycle, the 3/-way valve is actuated electrically and releases the ocking Unit KFH. In all other operational conditions including power failure, emergency stop etc., the ocking Unit KFH engages and holds the rod or brakes the load. ikewise, the load is secured when the pressure line breaks. To prevent possible problems, the rod shall not be driven unless proximity switch indicates the signal clamping released. p Fig. 5: *) **) Schematic diagram of hydraulic circuit * In case impact noises due to excess pressure are audible when pressurizing the ocking Unit KFH, these can be suppressed by means of a flow control valve in the p-line. ** In case the pressure is not sufficiently constant (e.g. pressure drop at the beginning of a downward stroke), we recommend a check valve in the p-connection of the valve. J WARNING! Risk due to slowed discharge of pressure medium! Slowed discharge of the pressure medium may cause a dangerous situation. The clamping then only locks with a time delay. K Make sure that the discharge of the pressure medium from pressure port is not impaired by any additional components. If a particular quick response time of the ocking Unit KFH is required, the following preconditions must be met: short line distances fast valve response times appropriate control large valve and line cross-sections Pressure fluid Hydraulic oil (HP) in accordance with DIN 554-:006 must be used as pressure fluid. Please consult SITEMA before using any other fluids. Choosing the right type The table shows the nominal holding force F of the various types. The value of F must be higher than the maximum axial load acting on the rod. In case vertically moving masses shall be held or stopped or in case other dynamic impact forces occur, an appropriate safety factor must be applied. This factor has to be defined by the user depending on the requirements, but should not be less than.5. Design and attachment of the rod The ocking Unit KFH will operate correctly only if the rod has a suitable surface: ISO tolerance field f7 or h6 induction hardened min. HRC 56, surface hardening depth: ø up to 30 mm: min. mm ø over 30 mm: min..5 mm surface roughness: Rz = to 4 m (Ra m) protection against corrosion, e.g. hard chromium plating: 0 ±0 m, HV lead-in chamfer, rounded: ø 8 mm up to ø 80 mm: min. 4 x 30 ø over 80 mm up to ø 80 mm: min. 5 x 30 ø over 80 mm up to ø 380 mm: min. 7 x 30 The rod may not be lubricated with grease. For example, standard rods with this specification can be used: Piston rods (ISO tolerance field f7), hard chrome plated Rods for linear ball bearings (ISO tolerance field h6) The actual holding force of the ocking Unit KFH is higher than the nominal holding force (F) indicated in the data sheets and drawings but will not be higher than twice this value. Therefore, all fixation elements carrying the load (rod, its attachment, etc.) have to be dimensioned for at least x F. Please note that at dynamic loads (e.g. when braking), the full holding force ( x F) can occur. In case of overload, the rod will slip. This does normally not cause any damage to the rod or the clamping unit. Generally, the basic rod material needs to have sufficient yield strength. In the case of compression-loaded rods, sufficient buckling resistance must be assured. K Route all connection lines without any kinks. K If there is any danger of kinking, take appropriate precautions (protective tube, thicker hose, etc.). 5/6

8 SITEMA ocking Units KFH ocking by spring force / hydraulic releasing TI-F50--EN-0/06 Mounting information KFH 8 to KFH 60 As supplied, the ocking Unit KFH (rod diameter 8 mm to 60 mm) is blocked in its released state and can be slid over and fixed to the clamping rod easily. After mounting, the transportation spacers must be removed. Please refer to the operating manual for further information. Required risk assessment It must be ensured that the dimensions and arrangement of a SITEMA ocking Unit KFH used in safety-relevant applications meet the requirements of the risk evaluation DIN EN ISO 00:0 and also comply with any further standards and regulations applicable for the intended use. The ocking Unit KFH alone principally cannot form a complete safety solution. It is however suitable to be part of such a solution. Furthermore, all attachments and fixations have to be dimensioned correspondingly. This is generally the duty of the system manufacturer and the user. Operating conditions The ocking Unit KFH is designed to operate in normal clean and dry workshop atmosphere. Operation in other environmental conditions is possible if at least port T is connected to a clean and dry atmosphere (e.g. tank). In case of heavy soiling conditions (grinding dust, chips, other liquids, etc.), please contact SITEMA. The permitted surface temperature is 0 C to +60 C. Viscous lubricants and grease may reduce the holding force. Regular performance tests The ocking Unit KFH must be functionally checked at regular intervals. Regular checking is the only way to ensure that the unit will operate safely in the long run. Please see the operating manual for further details. Maintenance No maintenance procedures are required other than the routine performance tests. The ocking Unit KFH is a safety element. Any repair or refurbishing must be carried out by SITEMA. SITEMA cannot take any responsibility for repairs by another party. 6/6

11 SITEMA - ocking Unit KB Hydraulic Clamping and Releasing TI-F5-EN-06/0 Operational purpose The ocking Unit KB clamps a shaft in any position. It is commonly used on cylinder rods or other round shafts and holds axial forces in both directions. Axial play A force in load direction is always held without backlash. If the force acts in load direction, no backlash will occur either, provided that the force does not exceed approx. 80% (from KB00 approx. 50%) of the nominal holding force F. In this case, the possible axial displacement is mm. Choosing the right size The table shows the nominal holding force F of the various types. The value of F must be higher than the maximum axial load acting on the rod. Dynamic loads are not allowed. In case of doubt, please contact Sitema Port T The tapped hole marked T (tank, oil leakage) is used for pressure compensation (breathing). It is plugged with a filter element when supplied from the factory. In case the ocking Unit KB is to operate in dirty or corrosive environment, port T has to be connected to clean atmosphere or the hydraulic tank by a pressureless line. HRC 56, surface hardening depth: ø up to 30 mm: min. mm ø over 30 mm: min..5 mm surface roughness: Rz = to 4 μm (Ra μm) protection against corrosion, e.g. hard chromium plating: 0 ±0 μm, HV lead-in chamfer, rounded: ø 8 mm up to ø 80 mm: min. 4 x 30 ø over 80 mm up to ø 80 mm: min. 5 x 30 ø over 80 mm up to ø 380 mm: min. 7 x 30 The rod may not be lubricated with grease. For example, standard rods with this specification can be used:. Piston rods (ISO tolerance field f7), hard chrome plated. Rods for linear ball bearings (ISO tolerance field h6) The actual holding force of the ocking Unit KFPC is higher than the nominal holding force (F) indicated in the data sheets and drawings but will not be higher than twice this value. /3

15 SITEMA ocking Units KFPC ocking by spring force / pneumatic releasing Therefore, all fixation elements carrying the load (rod, its attachment, etc.) have to be dimensioned for at least x F. Required risk assessment It must be ensured that the dimensions and arrangement of a SITEMA ocking Unit KFPC used in safety-relevant applications meet the requirements of the risk evaluation DIN EN ISO 00:0 and also comply with any further standards and regulations applicable for the intended use. The ocking Unit KFPC alone principally cannot form a complete safety solution. It is however suitable to be part of such a solution. Furthermore, all attachments and fixations have to be dimensioned correspondingly. This is generally the duty of the system manufacturer and the user. Operating conditions The SITEMA ocking Unit KFPC is suitable not only for dry environment, but also for operation in the presence of coolant or lubricant spray. For this reason, all external parts and sealing surfaces are made of corrosion protected material. In case of heavy soiling conditions (grinding dust, chips, other liquids, etc.), please contact SITEMA. The permitted surface temperature is 0 C to +60 C. Viscous lubricants and grease may reduce the holding force. TI-F-EN-0/06 Maintenance No maintenance procedures are required other than the routine performance tests. Should the ocking Units KFPC cease to comply with the required characteristics, the safety for working with the machine or system may no longer be given. In this case the ocking Units KFPC must be immediately and professionally repaired by SITEMA. The ocking Units KFPC are safety components. Any repair or refurbishing must be carried out by SITEMA. SITEMA cannot take any responsibility for repairs by another party. Regular performance tests The ocking Unit KFPC must be functionally checked at regular intervals. Regular checking is the only way to ensure that the unit will operate safely in the long run. Please see the operating manual for further details. 3/3
