AFB Staining has never been so easy, fast, or economical The Aerospray Microbiology Acid-Fast Bacteria (AFB) Slide Stainer/Cytocentrifuge provides significant advantages over hand staining or automated dip-type stainers, including speed, economy, consistent performance, and no cross-contamination. The new Aerospray AFB stainer performs either carbol fuchsin or fluorescence procedures by exchanging reagents and selecting the appropriate program on the keyboard. 3 Economical The Aerospray is exceptionally sparing in reagent consumption, giving you versatile full or partial load programming options that significantly reduce reagent volumes and costs required for staining different sized loads. An optional 30 slide carousel brings high volume economy within reach of every laboratory. Rapid Performance With a cycle time as short as 4.5 minutes, the Aerospray stainer can process more than 150 slides per hour (up to 400 with the optional 30- slide carousel). No more waiting for slides to dry they re ready to view when the staining cycle ends. Easy to Use Simply select from 6 different stain settings and start the staining cycle. That s all you have to do because the stainer takes over from there, precisely controlling all phases of the stain cycle with consistent reproducibility. Carbol Fuchsin or Fluorescence Staining on Demand With a few keystrokes and a change of reagents the AFB stainer can be configured for Kinyoun, Ziehl-Neelsen, auramine or auramine/rhodamine staining methods. No Cross Contamination In all Aerospray stainers, fresh reagent is applied as an atomized spray on slides mounted in a rotating carousel. Specimens contact only fresh, precisely metered stain from separate spray nozzles. No cross-contamination is possible. 5 The Wescor AFB Staining Process A erospray stains microscope slides smeared with materials containing acid-fast microorganisms such as culture materials, body fluids, or exudates. Wescor reagents are tailored to give superb results in the Aerospray stainer. The Aerospray stainer provides a choice of staining cycles ranging from 1 to 6, allowing you to compensate for thick specimens, or other possible variables. Fixation Specimens are heat fixed according to traditional procedures prior to staining in the Aerospray. Primary Stain At the beginning of the staining cycle, the slides are sprayed with the primary stain (carbol fuchsin or fluorochrome) that penetrates and stains the specimens. Excess stain is then spun off and washed away with deionized water to prevent precipitate formation. Decolorizing Acid alcohol decolorizer is then applied to remove the primary stain from the non acid-fast bacteria and surrounding debris. The decolorization is stopped with a water wash and a short spin. Counterstain The counterstain is then applied to stain the non-acidfast organisms. Excess counterstain is then removed with a water wash and a short spin. Drying The slides are spun at about 950 RPM for 45 seconds. This draws air through the machine and dries the slides. Slides emerge from the stainer dry and ready for the microscope. With its rapid staining cycle and high throughput capability, the Aerospray stainer is a convenient, cost effective way to stain mycobacteria.

6 CYTOPRO Cytocentrifuge Rotor

7 W With the optional Cytopro rotor, the Aerospray stainer becomes a cytocentrifuge at a fraction of the cost of a stand alone cytocentrifuge. There s no modification or fiddling involved. Simply remove the staining carousel and replace it with the Cytopro rotor. The self-contained sealed rotor loads easily in a biological safety cabinet. The rotor and sample chambers are autoclavable. Sample chambers are competitively priced so you can economically dispose of them. THE CYTOPRO CHAMBER The chamber s unique design combines ease of use with superb cell recovery. -Perfect Alignment. The Cytopad absorption pad snaps quickly between the chamber and the frame. This guarantees that the chamber bore is always correctly aligned. No fumbling, and no cell loss due to poor alignment. -Better Flow Control. Each Cytopad features a specially compressed ring around the center hole. This compression controls fluid flow and improves the repeatability of fluid absorption. -Dual Sample Port. Two ports, one in the sample well and one in the tunnel allows you to introduce prewetting fluids to increase cell recovery. -Chamber Caps. You can load samples directly through the chamber caps to prevent spilling of hazardous samples. -Two Fluid Absorption Rates. The white Cytopad is for faster absorption of viscous or debrisfilled suspension fluids. The tan pad is used to slow fluid absorption for improved cell recovery in non viscous fluids such as urine or CSF. EASY TO ASSEMBLE AND LOAD Assembling the Cytopro chamber is easy; chambers and Cytopads fit securely together with foolproof precision. No more cell loss due to misaligned filter cards. You ll be surprised how simply chambers and slides load into the rotor. The ends of each slide are fully visible to you for accurate patient identification. The rotor bowl s shallow profile makes sample loading more convenient than with a deep rotor. Simply pipette sample fluid directly into the sample well (maximum sample size: 0.5 ml) or through vents in the chamber caps. The semi-transparent sample chambers allow visual confirmation of correct sample volume.
