Detonating cord is also used in construction-engineering works. Methane detonating cord NITROCORD 8 is used in mining as the methane explosive. The detonating cord is designed for initiation of explosives cartridged and loaded in bulk, and for initiation of detonation of shock tubes in the non-electric detonators. It is prohibited to use detonating cords different form NITROCORD 8, when potentially hazardous atmosphere exists: for coal dust and air mixtures, and methane and air mixtures. 1.3 Producer: NITROERG S.A.

Specific legal regulations are in place to ensure the control of all issues relating to the trade, classification and marking of detonating cords. The product, if misused or subject of forbidden manipulations, may pose explosion risk resulting in heavy bodily injury or even death. 2.1 Explosion Risk Expl. 1.1, H201 There is risk of explosion due to impact, friction or influence of fire and other energy factors. Decomposition of the explosive is occurring in the temperature above 140 C. During the heating and the combustion toxic gases are emitted: nitrogen monoxides, carbon monoxides and hydrogen chloride. 2.2 Precautionary statement(s) P210 - Keep away from heat/sparks/open flames /hot surfaces. P405 - Store locked up. 2.3 Fire hazard The burning of small quantities take place safely on open space. Combustion of small amounts of the cord in closed spaces or combustion of large amounts of the cord cause move into detonation. In case of intoxication by after-dump gases take the injured person off the place and call medical service Skin contact: in case of direct contact with PETN wash skin with water and soap. If irritation occurs or feel unwell consult physician. Eye contact: Ingestion: in case of direct contact with PETN wash with plenty water for at least 15 minutes with copious amount of cold water, running water at best (avoid strong jet of water due to the risk of mechanical damage to the eye) and call medical assistance. call a medical assistance. Instructions for medic: PETN acts as a vasodilator. 5 FIREFIGHTING MEASURES Detonating cord to burning does not require atmospheric oxygen therefore the effectiveness of extinguishing agents is small and may be limited only to lower the temperature. Extinguishing means: do not extinguish. Evacuate personnel immediately. Allow fire to burn it to the end. Specific danger: When product is directly involved in a fire: Danger of explosion do not fight fire. Toxic gas release (CO, NO x, HCl).

Methods for cleaning up: take away product manually and fill it in closed container, use non-sparkling and non-metallic tools, keep away unauthorized persons, warn about explosion danger. 6 Page: 6 of 10 Copy No Safe handling advices: do not eat or drink at work, follow safety procedure for handling explosives approved by local, state and federal laws, regulations and ordinances, employ authorized persons only Storage: in authorized warehouse according federal law, suitable for Class 1.1D, keep locked up, do not smoke and keep away from ignition source, temperature of storage - depends of kind cord (information available on label): Detonating cords have to be stored in warehouses in compliance with valid regulations, in the temperature range: a) from 0 ºC up to + 45 ºC for: CORDTEX 6N, CORDTEX 10N, NITROCORD 6 - N, NITROCORD 8, NITROCORD 10, b) from 20 ºC up to +50 ºC for: CORDTEX 12N, CORDTEX 20N, CORDTEX 40N, CORDTEX 80N, CORDTEX 100N, ROWOCORD 12, ROWOCORD 25 c) from 30 ºC up to +50 ºC for: SEICORD 6g, SEICORD 10g, SEICORD 12g, SEICORD 15g, SEICORD 20g, SEICORD 40g, SEICORD 60g, SEICORD 70g, SEICORD 80g, SEICORD 100g. The store should fully comply with legal regulations related to explosive storage in your country.
