Hazards Liquid Harmful and irritation by contact within the eyes and skin by ingestion. Main Hazards Flammable, harmful by inhalation and in contact with skin. Irritating to skin. Other Hazards- In use, may form flammable/explosive vapour-air mixture.

2 4. FIRST AID MEASURES (SYMPTOMS): Skin Contact- There may be irritation and redness at the site of contact. Eye Contact- There may be irritation and redness. The eyes may water profusely. Ingestion- There may be soreness and redness of the mouth and throat, nausea And stomach pains may occur and there may be vomiting. Inhalation- There may be irritation of the throat with a feeling of tightness in the chest. 5. FIRST AID MEASURES (ACTIONS) Skin Contact- Remove all contaminated clothes and footwear immediately unless stuck to skin. Wash the affected areas with copious amounts of clean, lukewarm water and soap. Do not use solvent or thinners. If irritation recurs or persists seek medical attention.. Eye Contact- Irrigate with clear running water holding eyelids apart for at least 10 minutes. Remove any contact lenses. OBTAIN MEDICAL AID. Ingestion- DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING. Keep patient warm and at rest. If unconscious place in a recovery position. OBTAIN MEDICAL AID IMMEDIATELY.. Inhalation- Remove affected person to fresh air. Keep warm and at rest. If unconscious put into recovery position. If breathing is irregular or stops apply artificial respiration. Make sure your safe while doing Obtain medical aid. 6. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES: Flammability - Flammable Exclude source of ignition. Extinguishing Media- SMALL FIRES CO2, Dry powder or Chemical Extinguisher. Exposure Hazards- Flammable. Combustion products will include Acrid Smoke, Carbon Monoxide and Dioxide. In combustion emits toxic fumes, it forms an explosive air mixture. Protection of Fire Fighters- Protective Equipment. Self-contained air-fed breathing apparatus should be used. Wear self-contained breathing apparatus also wear protective clothing to prevent contact with skin and eyes. 7. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES: Personal Precautions-If outside don t approach from downwind, keep bystanders up wind and away from the danger point, mark out the contaminated area with signs and deny access to unauthorised personnel. Remove any source of ignition. Ensure adequate ventilation of provide self-contained air-fed breathing apparatus. Do not get into contact with eyes. Turn leaking containers leak side up to prevent the escape of liquid and eliminate all sources of ignition. Environmental Precautions- Prevent from entering water courses and drainage systems. If the material enters the drainage system, inform the local fire authorities immediately. Do not discharge into drains or rivers. Cleaning Up Procedures- Contain the spillage using an inert absorption material such as earth or sand. Sweep up and dispose of as contaminated hazardous waste. Do not use equipment in the clean up procedure that will produce sparks.

HANDLING AND STORAGE: HANDLING, STORAGE AND USE OF THE PRODUCT MUST CONFIRM WITH THE HIGHLY FLAMMABLE AND LIQUIFIED PERTROLEUM GASES REGULATIONS HANDLING REQUIREMENTS-NO SMOKING OR SOURCES OF IGNITION. Avoid inhaling vapour Use in areas of good ventilation to ensure that the Occupational Exposure limits are not exceeded. If this is not possible then Local Exhaust Ventilation should be employed. Personal filter canister type respirators should be used only as a last resort and for short period only. Avoid direct contact with skin and eyes Wear suitable protective clothing. e.g. goggles (to BS2902) and impervious gloves. Keep containers closed when not in use. Do not handle in confined spaces, and avoid the formation or spread of mists in the air. Smoking is forbidden and avoid the use of sparking tools. STORAGE CONDITIONS- NO SMOKING OR SOURCES OF IGNITION. Keep in tightly closed containers. Store in a cool, well ventilated area. Keep container tightly closed and away from source of ignition, direct sunlight and away from direct heat sources. (ensure lighting and electrical equipment isn t a source of ignition). Prevent the build up of electrostatic charge in the immediate area. 9. EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION Control Measures- In all cases engineering resources for vapour control should be undertake before personal protection equipment is utilised. Personal Protective Measures Respiratory See Handling above. In emergencies self-contained breathing apparatus must be available. Hand Protection Impervious rubber gloves PVC or Neoprene are suitable. PLEASE NOTE COTTON OR GLOVES MADE OF ABSORBENT MATERIAL SHOULD IN NO CIRCUMSTANCE BE USED. ENSURE THE GLOVES ARE NOT CONTAMINATED INTERNALLY BEFORE USE. IF THEY ARE THEN THEY SHOULD BE DISCARDED. Eye Protection Safety goggles (to BS2902) or for larger operation, full face mask. Make sure an eye bath is available. Skin Protection Protective Clothing Preferably of chemical resistant material particularly where large scale use of the material is undertaken.

5 12. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION Xylene: LD50 (oral-rate) 4300mg / kg Xylene vapour is rapidly absorbed through the respiratory tract and by skin contact. Over 90% of the absorbed material is metabolised and excreted in the urine as methyl hippuric acid and approx 5% is exhaled in the breath. 13. ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION Xylene is not classified by the IMO as a marine pollutant. 14. DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONS. Recover where possible but if this is not practical then use controlled incineration.
