5 1. General Information Normally, analyzers are not part of a standard system. They are available as optional system components. The BRAUN ompany offers different versions of moisture and oxygen analyzers. The present Technical Documentation solely describes system-integrated PL versions whose operation and the output of the measured values is performed via the system's operation panel. Other system-independent versions are described in separate operating instructions. The following analyzers are available as system-integrated PL versions: Oxygen Analyzer (PL) - for determining slight traces of oxygen in inert gases. 2. Input and Output at the Operation Panel Note: BRAUN standard systems are provided with the TP17b Operation Panel. All descriptions contained in the present Technical Documentation refer to the TP17b. In case the system is provided with a different operation panel, please use comparable input and output units (keys, display) or follow the instructions of the operating instructions for that operation panel Function Button The function button to activate and deactivate the analyser is located on the operator panel. The button is labelled as Analyser Display The output of the measured value is displayed on the operation panel in its standard reading, such as: When the Oxygen Analyzer (PL) is used, the only measured value of the oxygen traces is displayed. 7 5. Initial ommissioning The Oxygen Analyzer (PL) is provided with a probe cell and calibration cell, which are filled with specific cell liquids. To meet the necessary safety requirements the probe cell is empty when delivered. The user should do the filling of the cell. The cell liquid is included in delivery ell Liquids The cell liquids and the appropriate filling bottles are included in delivery. aution: Be careful when handling cell liquids, as they are a highly caustic potash solution. In any case, use protective gloves and goggles. Any cell liquid coming in contact with skin must be rinsed off immediately using running water. If liquids comes in contact with your eyes, rinse them immediately using running water; and seek immediate medical attention. Some deliveries contain cell liquids in tablet form. Before these tablets are used, they have to undergo certain preparatory processes according to the instructions included. When doing so, observe the above-mentioned safety measures. Note: When filled for the first time, the cells have to be filled only with BRAUN cell liquids, because the concentration of their constituents exactly matches the cells Initial Filling of the alibration ell The calibration cell, on the Oxygen Analyzer (PL), is labelled AL ELL. Be cautious when handling cell liquids. Wear protective goggles and glove. The ell-liquid must not come in contact with eyes, skin or your clothing! 9 5.3. Initial Filling of the Probe ell The probe cell on the Oxygen Analyser (PL) is labelled PROBE ELL. Prior to filling the probe cell the filler cap needs to be removed. arefull unscrew the Probe ell s filler cap Using the filling bottle, included in delivery, fill genuine BRAUN cell liquid for the probe cell into the cell labelled PROBE ELL. Fill the probe cell up to the upper filling mark of the window. aution: When filling the cell, do not exceed the filling mark causing damage to the analyzer! Be cautious when handling cell liquids. 10 After filling, clean filler inlet of the Probe cell (PROBE ELL) using a soft cotton cloth. lose filler by screwing on filler cap. arefully screw-on the Probe ell s filler cap aution: An Oxygen Analyzer (PL) with its cells filled should only be carefully moved, as slopping over of the cell liquid causes damage to the analyzer. Never tilt nor agitate the analyzer! The analyzer cells should only be filled with the special liquids meeting the requirements of BRAUN analyzers. Any use of liquids not complying with these previously mentioned requirements could result in complete failure of the analyzer. Note: After its first filling the analyzer should be purged and calibrated; see chapter 6 " O2 easurement", subchapter "Purging" and "alibration". The initial filling of the cells is now completed. The actual status of the function is indicated with colour: Red = deactivated Green = activated Note: In the case of both H 2 O and O 2 -Analysers being included in the system then, operation of the Analyser function button will simultaneously activate/deactivate both analysers Flowmeter Ball arker The flow meter is attached to the casing of the analyzer. Using the control valve set the gas flow rate so that the ball is hovering at the level of the marker. ontrol Valve FLOW ETER Note: The scale units are not calibrated. 12 Safety ut-out Facility When the measured valve is higher than 255 ppm, an warning is issued. Note: Please refer to the Operating anual for BRAUN-Systems hapter Trouble Shooting, Sub-section Alarm and Error essages. As the high concentration of oxygen may cause premature aging of the internal oxygen probe cell, the analyzer automatically deactivates the oxygen measurement. The operation indicator lamp goes out. ALIBRATION SENSOR ELL Operation Indicator lamp The analyzer is automatically switched on periodically, checking if the concentration of oxygen has decreased. If the concentration of oxygen has dropped below a value of 255 ppm the analyzer maintains its continuous operation. The Operation Panel displays the most current value aintenance hecking the Filling Level The oxygen measurement and the calibration of the analyzer result in a loss of liquids in the cells. To assure an optimum function of the analyzer the liquid levels visible in the cell windows should be checked daily. The liquid level of a cell is optimal, when it lies between the upper and lower filling mark. Upper Fill-Level arker ALIBRATION SENSOR ELL Lower Fill-Level arker If the cell liquid drops to the lower filling level marker, the filling level should be adjusted. 13 Adjusting the Probe ell Filling Level For this adjustment, the following aids are required: Special syringe (included in delivery) Distilled water The analyzer filler cap is provided with a quick-refill valve. Using the special syringe the distilled water can be injected into the probe cell. Fill the syringe with distilled water Expel the excess air from the syringe Place the syringe nozzle on the fill inlet, apply slight pressure to open the Quick Fill Valve. Press the distilled water into the cell. DO NOT exceed the upper Fill-Level arker aution: The adjustment of the probe cell filling level can only be done by using distilled water. If other liquids are used the quick-refill valve and/or the probe cell may be damaged. The upper mark of the filling level should not be exceeded, because the liquid may spill over resulting in damage to the probe cell. Note: After the adjustment of the filler level the analyzer should be calibrated, refer to the following chapter "alibration" The adjustment of the filler level is completed alibration alibrating the analyzer means matching the integrated oxygen cell with the measuring electronics. alibration is only required under the following conditions: After the initial filling of the probe cells. After adjustment of the liquid level If there are doubts that the current measured value is incorrect. The following requirements should be met for performing the calibration: The concentration of oxygen contained in the gas for measurement should be < ppm. The oxygen measurement should be activated. 14 alibration Process Turn the / valve to position. The gas for measurement is now conducted through a catalyser, where its is cleaned assuming a value of < 2 ppm to ppm. ALIBRATION SENSOR ELL /-Valve in Position aution: The catalyser can only clean that gas for measurement whose concentration of oxygen is below ppm. A higher concentration of oxygen results in damage to the catalyser. Ball arker Using the control valve adjust the gas flow rate so that the ball is moving at the level mark. ontrol Valve FLOW ETER Note: The scale units are not calibrated. The marker indicates a real flow rate of 4 l/h. Wait about 15 to 2 minutes until a constant measured value of oxygen lower than 2 ppm is reached. With a constant measured value of oxygen obtained, the calibration range switch should be turned to position. ALIBRATION SENSOR ELL alibration Range Switch in Position The calibration cell now produces a calibration gas of exactly ppm of oxygen. Wait until a constant measured value of oxygen is maintained. 15 With the constant oxygen measured value higher or lower than ppm, a calibration of the cell is required. Using a screwdriver the setting of the ADJ potentiometer can be changed, until an oxygenmeasured value of ppm is displayed on Operation Panel. With a constant oxygen value obtained, the / valve should again be turned position. 16 6.4. Purging Purging the analyzer is required only under the following conditions: After initial filling of the cells. After any maintenance work, when cells or piping elements of the moisture or Oxygen Analyzer (PL) have been opened. When the cell filler cap has been opened. If ambient air had entered the cells or pipes of the analyzer this air should be totally purged. This prevents measurement errors and premature aging of the internal oxygen probe cell caused by too high a concentration of oxygen. The following requirements should be met for the purging process: The oxygen measurement should be activated The analyzer should be connected completely Purge Process Turn / valve switch to zero position. ALIBRATION SENSOR ELL /-Valve in (zero) position ompletely open the control valve by turning the flow-rate controller fully counter clockwise. ball completely open the control valve Wait until the ball at the bottom of the tube does not move any longer - idle position. With the ball in idle position, the analyzer is in the vacuum condition. Now, slowly and carefully turn the / valve to the position, inducing the purging of the analyzer. 17 Nach ca. 5 inuten im Spülzustand muss das /-Ventil wieder auf Nullposition gestellt werden. ALIBRATION SENSOR ELL /-Valve in (zero) position Abwarten bis die Kugel am unteren Ende des Röhrchens in Ruhestellung gekommen ist. Ball Wenn die Kugel in Ruhestellung ist, befindet sich der Analyser im Vakuumzustand. Das /-Ventil muss jetzt langsam und vorsichtig auf Position gestellt werden. Der Analyser wird zum zweiten al gespült. ALIBRATION SENSOR ELL /-Valve in Position aution: The changing-over of the valve switch to its respective positions should be done carefully. Otherwise, damage to the valve may result. After a purging for approximately 5 minutes, return the / valve to zero position. 18 Wait until the ball stops moving at the bottom of the tube. With the ball in idle position, the analyzer is in the vacuum condition. Ball Now slowly and carefully turn the / valve to the position. Otherwise, damage to the valve may result. 19 7. Other 7.1. Service and aintenance Daily aintenance O 2 -Analyser heck the cell filling level Visual inspection of their general condition; remove dust and dirt Long-Service aintenance O 2 -Analyser hecking and cleaning the cells; inspecting the gas pump; checking the piping for tightness and its condition; cleaning the interior of the analyzer. These maintenance works should be carried out by the BRAUN company or service stations authorized for such works. aution: If delivery is required for an Oxygen Analyzer (PL), for maintenance or repair to a BRAUN service department or any authorized shop, or transit due to a change of address, the cells should be emptied.
