Until early 2007, Pasteurized Milk Ordinance (PMO) regulation Item 15p did not allow the cleaning of the seat(s) and the vent cavity of a PMO mixproof valve while product is present in the valve. This meant that dairy plants needed to shut down for several hours every day to clean the seats and vent cavities of these valves, greatly reducing dairy processors flexibility and productivity. NO MORE! In May 2007, the FDA lifted the seat cleaning restriction for the first time ever (described in FDA Memorandum M-b-353) for the 24/7 PMO Valve from GEA Tuchenhagen. This was the first such authorization ever to be issued. 4 Product highlights of the 24/7 PMO Valve Public Health & Product Safety Why is the 24/7 PMO Valve better than the rest? We ve got nature on our side simple geometry and the laws of science. Due to the unique, patented valve seat design, our 24/7 PMO Valve generates a natural vacuum in the vent cavity and ensures no CIP impingement on the opposite seat during seat cleaning. These two design features ensure there can never be any cross-leakage of CIP liquid into the opposite valve housing during seat lifting. Always safe. Always secure. Regulatory (Section 12p) Under FDA memorandum M-b-353, the GEA Tuchenhagen 24/7 PMO Valve can be cleaned only by seat lifting while product is present in the opposite housing of the valve. However, section 12p of the Pasteurized Milk Ordinance (PMO) states the ALL product-wetted surfaces of the valve MUST be cleaned, and this must also be true when cleaning the valve only by seat lifting. This includes cleaning that part of the stem of any valve which sees product when the valve is activated yet is outside the valve when the valve is being cleaned. Therefore the outer surface of the lower balancer stem and the area behind the lower stem seal must be cleaned. This is accomplished in the 24/7 valve using the balancer cleaning device, a shroud around the lower stem which allows CIP liquid to flush and clean this surface, as well as behind the stem seal, during the lower seat lift activation. 5 This design solution is fully integrated into the valve; cleans the entire lower balancer stem area; ensures a controlled CIP cleaning of the lower balancer stem; is fully drainable; requires no additional piping, valves, or controls. Simple Design & Easy Maintenance The GEA Tuchenhagen 24/7 PMO Valve is a simple, traditional two-seat, three V-ring design, with clear separation between the seats so that any leakage past the seats can flow easily to the outside through the full-port vent cavity, as true mixproof valves are designed to do. Unlike the more cumbersome deflector plate mixproof valve designs of some manufacturers in the industry, there are no internal vent cavity parts or springs or threads, and ALL moving parts of the valve can be electronically monitored for proper and safe operation. Cleanability Again, the GEA Tuchenhagen 24/7 PMO Valve is a simple, traditional one-piece manufactured housing construction with a two-seat, three V-ring design which has clean separation between the blocking seats. If one of these seat gaskets should fail, the product leakage will flow easily and visibly to the outside, not be congealed on the inside of the vent cavity. The seat seals are V-rings which are compression-fit to their V-ring grooves they cannot roll in their grooves thus ensuring that product can never be trapped behind these seals. Like the original mixproof 24/7 PMO Valve from GEA Tuchenhagen, using simple geometry and the laws of science, the new mixproof 24/7 PMO Tank Valve generates a natural vacuum and ensures no CIP impingement on the opposite seat during seat lift cleaning.
