1 TO ALL CABIN CREW RELEASE DATE 25 th August 2016 EFFECTIVE DATE 01 st September 2016 CIRCULAR IFSD/CABIN SAFETY/016 SUBJECT PSP Briefings for B737 & BBD Fleet Type Brief of The Matter: As crew members we hope and assume that we are never encountered with an emergency or think it can never happen to us. Knowledge and skills would be the only contributing factor in deciding life or death during an emergency. Following factors contribute to a successful or unsuccessful evacuation Situational awareness. A general definition of SA is that it is the perception of the elements in the environment within a volume of time and space, the comprehension of their meaning and the projection of their status in the near future. Decision making. Some factors and/or biases can distort the way situations or goals are perceived by individuals and the team as a whole. Three types of factors can be described: Risk perception and risk management Situational factors Biases PSP Briefings The PSP briefings have been re-designed; for the ease of memorizing by crew members. Therefore, the reference to ELC s shall not be required during Cabin Preparation. Please find below the revised PSP briefings for B737 and BBD Q-400 Shubhrit Srivastava Cabin Safety Training Manager Page 1

2 B PSP INSTRUCTION CRASH LANDING (3 PER DOOR) - Take the PSP s to individual exit and brief them on the following points: L1/R1/ case I am incapacitated you shall open this 2. Before opening this door, check if it is safe to open this door by looking out of this 3. To open the door rotate door operating handle in the direction of the arrow 4. Push the door out till you hear a click sound. 5. Wait till the slide inflates fully and makes a firm contact with ground 6. If the slide does not inflate automatically pull the Red manual inflation handle at the start of the slide. PRIMARY PSP (01) L1/R1/L2/R2/L4/R4 4. If the slide fails to inflate manually - Block the door and redirect the passengers. 5. If the slide does not make a contact with ground - Block the door and redirect the passengers. L4/R4 Door case I am incapacitated you shall open this 2. Before opening this door, check if it is safe to open this door by looking out of this 3. Hold the door operating handle and pull it upwards in the direction of the arrow and push the 4. The door opens out and down. 5. Wait till the slide inflates fully and makes a firm contact with ground. 6. If the slide does not inflate automatically pull the Red manual inflation handle at the start of the slide. (Crew to physically display the location of the VSE)-- First Aid Kit; Medical Kit; ELT; Megaphone SECONDARY PSP (02) L1/R1/L2/R2/L4/R4 1. Take the crew down with you once the door is opened. 2. Assist passengers on ground in moving them away from the aircraft. Page 2

Before opening this door, check if it is safe to open this door by looking out of this 3. To open the door rotate door operating handle in the direction of the arrow 4. Push the door out till you hear a click sound. PRIMARY PSP (01) L1/R1/L2/R2/L4/R4 1. I am the crew responsible for the door; in case I am incapacitated you shall take over my duties. 2. Block and redirect passengers to the other usable exits. 4. Ensure the life jacket is inflated before evacuating. 5. After evacuation swim away from the aircraft. L4/R4 Door case I am incapacitated you shall open this 2. Before opening this door, check if it is safe to open this door by looking out of this 3. Hold the door operating handle and pull it upwards in the direction of the arrow and push the 4. The door opens out and down. 5. Wait till the slide inflates fully. 6. If the slide does not inflate automatically pull the Red manual inflation handle at the start of the slide. (Crew to physically display the location of the VSE)-- ELT SECONDARY PSP (01) L1/R1/L2/R2/L4/R4 1. Take the crew down with you once the door is opened after inflating the life jackets. 2. 4 BBD Q PSP INSTRUCTION CRASH LANDING (2 PER DOOR) - Take the PSP s to individual exit and brief them on the following points: L1 Door 1. I am the crew responsible for the door; in case I am incapacitated you shall open this 2. Before opening this door, check if it is safe to open this door by looking out of this 3. To open the door Push the operating handle all the way up. 4. Push the Stairs out till you hear a click sound. PRIMARY PSP (01) L1/R1/L2/R2 R1 Door 1. I am the crew responsible for the door; in case I am incapacitated you shall open this 2. Before opening this door, check if it is safe to open this door by looking out of this 3. To open the door Place one hand on the operating handle and other hand on assist handle and pull the handle down. 4. Bring the exit in the cabin and rotate and throw it out. 2. Before opening this door, check if it is safe to open this door by looking out of this 3. To open the door- Pull operating handle in and then forward in the direction of this arrow. 4. Use assist handle to slide the door forward till you here a click sound. (Crew to physically display the location of the VSE)-First Aid Kit ; ELT ; Megaphone SECONDARY PSP (01) L1/R1/L2/R2 1. Take the crew down with you once the door is opened. 2. Assist passengers on ground in moving them away from the aircraft. Page 4

5 BBD Q400 - PSP INSTRUCTION DITCHING (2 PER DOOR) - Take the PSP s to individual exit and brief them on the following points: L1 Door 2. Before opening this door, check if it is safe to open this door by looking out of this 3. To open the door Leave the ditching dam in this place only. 4. Push the operating handle all the way up. 5. Push the Stairs out till you hear a click sound. PRIMARY PSP (01) L1/R1/L2/R2 R1 Door 2. Before opening this door, check if it is safe to open this door by looking out of this 3. To open the door Place one hand on the operating handle and other hand on assist handle and pull the handle down. 4. Bring the exit in the cabin and rotate and throw it out. 5. The lower portion gets locked in its place. 4. Ensure the life jacket is inflated before evacuating. 5. After evacuation swim away from the aircraft. 1. I am the crew responsible for the door; in case I am incapacitated you shall open this 2. Check if it is safe by looking out of this window for exigency situations. 3. Block the exits. 4. Move passengers towards all the other useable exits. NOTE Before opening the exits ensure you unbuckle my seat belt and place me on the floor and then ask the secondary PSP to slide me down (Crew to physically display the location of the VSE)-- ELT SECONDARY PSP (01) L1/R1/L2/R2 1. Take the crew down with you once the door is opened after inflating the life jacket. 2. Assist passengers in swimming away from the aircraft. Page 5
