2 FROM THE DESK OF THE PREZ... Dear Axford Acres residents, I hope you all enjoyed our mild winter! Our annual Christmas party was again well received and attended, and we are hoping for even better participation next year. Congratulations to the three residents on Ludean and Kingsway, who took first year honors in the house lighting contest. As more and more residents participate, our subdivision is sure to be "the" fun and festive place to view on those gray a n d f r o z e n w i n t e r n i g h t s! Just so you are all aware, the residents recently voted at our annual meeting to add sand over the mucky areas in our swimming area, between the water's edge and the drop off. This will enable everyone to enjoy a nice, D I D Y O U KNOW??...that for most of the association subdivisions, basic landscaping, weed removal, trimming/branch removal are part of your deed restrictions/ responsibilities? And that basic spring cleaning and removal of debris must be removed by June th? Additional clean up after that date must be removed in a timely manner. Thank you to all residents who continue to keep their properties neat and clean. Your diligence and efforts improve not only your own property value but everyone's around you as well. Also, thank you to all those Page 2 sandy bottom without being calf deep in muck and sludge. The general consensus was that maintaining our beach and swimming area is not only beneficial to its users but for everyone's property values as well. Lastly, I'd like to personally thank all those residents who took the time to sit on a committee, volunteer their time, or simply attend a monthly meeting which always brings new perspectives and ideas. Our neighborhood simply would not and could not continue to be the pleasant and vibrant place that it is without you. Sincerely, Deed Restrictions Committee Corner... residents, who have complied quickly to deed restriction infractions. FYI Cards are sent to residents for violation of your subdivision deed restrictions, such as: garbage cans and leaf bags left out in view of your neighbors, trailers, signage, as well as commercial vehicles just to name a few. If you receive a card and are unsure of the infraction, need clarification of all deed restrictions, and/or just simply need a copy of your deed restrictions, go to our website at to print a copy, or call your district representative to obt ain a copy. Please note you will need your lot number to get the correct deed restrictions. SPRING IS HERE...and it s time to start our Spring yard clean-up. While raking out flower beds, raking and thatching lawn, and picking up sticks and debris, please remember the storm drains. If you have a storm drain in front of your house, take a few minutes to pull leaves and winter accumulation from it. After the top is cleared, if the water is not flowing into it, contact your district reprepresentative. We will compile a list of drains that need attention from the Oakland County Road Commission. It is also of utmost importance to keep all fertilizer, grass clippings, etc., from entering the storm drains. All of these things directly lead to the demise of our water quality, as the storm drain system leads directly into the Axford Acres Pond and eventually into the lake. Most of us take a lot of time to manicure our lawns, so please take a few extra minutes to clear the streets and keep storm drains free of debris. These simple steps will enhance the beauty of our neighborhood and protect our waterways. A friendly reminder for our resident dog owners... Most of us love animals, especially our own pets. for the continued cleanliness of our subdivision and the safety of our children please remember to keep your pet leashed, h o u s e d, a n d / o r c o n t a i n e d electronically. If you see a dog running loose call Animal Control at

3 During the winter season have you noticed the sand barrels at various spots in the subdivision? They are filled with a combination of sand and salt, supplied by the Road Commission of Oakland County. What you may not have noticed is that there are scoops inside those barrels. Many people wonder what exactly we do with the association dues money we collect. Listed below are some of the things that your hard-earned dollars go toward: Entrance Upkeep (weeding, plantings, painting, mowing, sprinkler, electricity, weed control) Beach Maintenance, which includes mowing, weed control sand, sign maintenance, gate, dock and boat launch maintenance, keys Activities: Christmas and Labor Day parties, garage sale, ski show Annual Egg Hunt Communication: newsletters, postage, P.O. box Page 3 A Little FYI from the Safety Corner... You can help during a snow or ice storm by taking a few seconds to scoop a few shovelfuls onto the roadway. Even just a few throws will create t r a c t i o n, e s p e c i a l l y a t t h e entrances, which makes for a much safer commute for everyone. Volleyball anyone? Last year the association added a great volleyball court to the beach for resident use. In addition the association also purchased a removable volleyball net and balls. Fellow resident, Stacy Hess, has graciously volunteered to store all the volleyball equipment at her home. Residents who want to use these items should give her at call at to make arrangements to pick up the equipment at her home. Thank you Stacy and enjoy this new addition to our beach! TREASURER S TIDBIT Legal: liability policies, lawyer fees, court costs Safety: snow plowing Believe it or not, it takes almost 25,000 per year to pay for these things. In an effort to keep the expenses as low as possible you only receive one copy of your dues bill. It isn t necessary to send a copy with your payment. Just write your lot # on your check. Your canceled check is your proof of payment. Thank you residents, who pay their yearly dues promptly and consistently. We have a beautiful subdivision with many things going on because of the dues we collect. New beach keys are available. You can get that new key at our annual beach clean-up on Saturday, May 5th. After the beach clean-up residents can purchase their new key by calling Julie Davis, Beach Key chairperson, at The cost of the initial key is 5.00, replacement keys are You must have paid your 20 association dues in advance in order to obtain a key. Please be considerate and plan ahead to get your key. No last minute panic phone calls! Please do not loan your key to neighbors or friends. We keep our lake traffic down by allowing only lakefront and back lot Axford Acres residents access to Duck Lake. Please do your part, this includes keeping the gate locked at all times even when you are on the boat launch. REMEMBER... AXFORD ACRES HAS IT S OWN WEBSITE! Anything you need from deed restrictions, to the latest newsletter, to meeting minutes and most general information about the subdivision Can be found on this site. Log on and take a look!!! A

5 With spring finally here and summer just around the corner many of us are thinking of warm weather activities. One of the attractions of the Lakes Area is the opportunity for swimming and boating we have a beach, a dock and a picnic area to use all spring and summer, but need to get it ready for that season. The Axford Acres Annual Beach Clean-Up is scheduled for Saturday, May 5th, from 9:00am to 1:00 pm. You don t need to stay 4 hours. If you have one hour to spare, come, we need your help!!! So, plan to join us at our annual spring clean-up. Bring wheelbarrows, shovels, and rakes, as we will be adding more sand to the beach. Come meet your fellow neighbors, bring your next door neighbor, and help make our beach a beautiful place to share and be proud of. See you there! Time for our Annual SSpring Beach Clean-Up.... plan to lend a hand!!! NOTE: THE TOWNSHIP DOES NOT PICK UP COMPOST UNTIL APRIL 1ST! 20 Labor Day Beach Party is on the move and we need help again!!! BEACH GATE IS LOCKED AT DUSK... Let there be no confusion this year regarding the gate at the beach. The gate is closed and locked at dusk. If you leave your vehicle or have a friend leave their vehicle at the beach, it will be locked inside the gate at dusk. We have again had our gate and lock vandalized several times this last year. This is costly to the subdivision. Vehicles found inside the gate after dusk could be towed at the owners expense. Vandalism to our gate and/or lock will be at the expense of the vehicle owner. Please remove any vehicles you have at the beach by dusk. The annual Axford Acres Labor Day Beach Party is a family fun event. The party will be held on the Sunday before Labor Day (Sept 3rd) at the beach from 3pm to 11 pm. This end of the summer party provides an opportunity for good family fun, as well as time to meet your neighbors. Due to the economic times we will again make this a FREE EVENT!!! Hotdogs, coney sauce, condiments and paper products will be provided (5:30 pm to 7:00 pm), but plan to bring your favorite beverage of choice and your lawn chairs. There will be an inflatable for the kids and games. We plan to provide music, volleyball and a bon fire. The party is open to all Axford Acres residents and their guests. Page 5 Each year we are able to hold this party because of the our many neighborhood volunteers. Their help is absolutely necessary to make this party a success. So in order to make this party happen we are asking for anyone interested in helping and/or attending to please contact Stacy H e s s v i a e m a i l a t stacyhess@gmail.com or by phone at If we do not have enough people interested, this wonderful family end of the summer party will not happen. Let s make this a special party for Axford Acres volunteer to help and plan to attend this free party with your family!!! Please remember your deed restrictions require you to get approval in writing for major home alterations like new or replaced decks, room additions, new constructions, etc. Refer to the deed restrictions for your specific part of the subdivision. Our deed restrictions supersede township ordinances. Regardless of whether or not you seek a township building permit, please first consult with our Architectural Committee to get written approval for your plans. We request two copies of the plan, one for our records, and one to return to you. For questions or for plan approvals contact Ron Rinkinen
