5 hth Feeder Technology Easiflo Feeders - 1, 3 & 4 Easiflo IP3 Feeder The hth Easiflo IP feeder offers the safety and efficiency of all the easiflo range, with the added benefit of multiple pool dosing. It is designed to prepare and automatically deliver a consistently accurate dose of available chlorine for disinfection applications. This patented chlorinator can supply up to 45kg of available chlorine per day. The entire range of feeders utilise hth Easiflo briquettes and can be used in conjunction with any Auto Controller. Selecting the correct Easiflo feeder you require will depend on the bather load of the pool - please ask our Technical Services Team for advice. How it works The Easiflo Feeder doses a solution of hth calcium hypochlorite into a pool circulation system by the use of spray and venturi technology. The briquettes sit on a grid and a solenoid is energised via a signal from an automated control unit. This allows a single jet (Easiflo 1), 3 jets (Easiflo 3), or 4 jets (Easiflo 4) of water to be sprayed underneath the grid, washing the briquettes and forming a calcium hypochlorite solution in the bottom of the feeder. The solution is then evacuated into the pool circulation pipework via the venturi (which can be linked to its own booster pump system - offering consistent inlet pressures to wash the briquettes as well as consistent suction strength to apply the solution). The feeder is non-pressurised and offers a safer, less time consuming and easier form of chlorine application. 10 hth Controller Technology The principles of disinfection for swimming pools, leisure pools, and spas are predominantly the same as those for the disinfection of drinking water. However until quite recently the analysers that were used to control the disinfection of pools were different to the ones used to control the disinfection for drinking water. It was thought that pools were an easier application, so less sophisticated equipment was implemented to perform the control of these waters. This has led to the accumulation of sub standard instruments within the pool industry and in turn, pool operators have had to make allowances by repeated adjustments, replacing sensors too often and not being fully in control of the dosing, all resulting in variable water quality and high running costs. Today with advanced technology and greater knowledge of pool water chemistry, recreational waters of all volumes can be controlled automatically and more efficiently. Used in conjunction with hth products and feeders, our range of controllers offer the pool manager precise control of chlorine, ph and temperature with additional optional benefits of variable speed drive control, data logging and multi pool control available. Energy Conservation with Automatic Control Most pool recirculating pumps are over specified for the duty required and as such there is scope to turn them down and save considerable amounts of money on the electricity usage. Each pool has a minimum turnover set by the manufacturer or consultant at the time of installation. Whenever you save electricity you are reducing your CO 2 emissions and carbon footprint of your pool and spa and for many organisations, reducing CO 2 emissions is a significant factor in choosing which equipment to purchase. Both the CRIUS and CRATOS controllers allow the user to turn down the recirculating pump during periods of non pool use (overnight) to the minimum level. During the day while the pool is being used the recirculating pump can be set based on chlorine demand which is proportional to bathing load. This ability to control the recirculating pump based on chlorine demand means that pool operators can save significant sums of money on electricity during the day when costs are at the highest. 11 AquaSense Controllers Cronos, Crius & Cratos Traditionally pool chemistry has been controlled by the use of ORP (Redox) or Residual Chlorine Sensors. The quality of the sensors has a huge effect on the ability of the controller to maintain a safe and pleasant bathing water. The sensors used in AquaSense controllers are the best available in the world today and are exactly the same sensors that are used to monitor and control drinking water in many municipal drinking water plants worldwide. Chlorine Sensors Lonza offer three sensors to measure; free chlorine, total chlorine, or chlorine in the presence of cyanuric acid. All offer a long and low maintenance life of approximately 10 years with reduced calibration requirements. They are manufactured to the highest quality and provide accurate measurement of chlorine, responding rapidly to changing demands in the pool. This means that pools and spas can operate at lower chlorine levels, minimising the formation of unpleasant combined chlorines and reducing the chemical usage, thereby lowering costs and reducing emissions, while providing a better bathing experience. 12 Changing to hth is easy Many pools in both soft and hard water areas, have successfully changed to hth for the unique benefits and savings that it brings. Usually a conversion can be achieved for less than the cost of a new bulk storage hypochlorite tank and wherever possible, existing equipment is utilised. With a range of hth product pack sizes to suit all pools and any plant room situation, hth is widely used in the smallest spa pool and water play feature right up to 50m pools and large lidos. hth Dosing - Pump and Tank system We know the key to successful trouble free dosing - there is no benefit in buying pumps and equipment that actually make the job of dosing more difficult. You can be assured the equipment we specify is right for your site s requirements. Site surveys by Lonza personnel identify existing equipment that can be utilised to dose hth. Wherever possible existing pumps are redeployed, for example, using the main pool dosing pump on a small pool if appropriate. However the tank itself is usually increased in size, resulting in less frequent recharging. If briquettes are to be used, a suspension net is required which Lonza can provide free of charge, see Fig 2. Pools remain fully operational during the installation of any type of preferred dosing system. hth Dosing - Dedicated Feeders Dedicated feeders are ideal for sites which require minimal operator involvement, as they offer ultimate safety and convenient dosing. There are several feeders which are capable of dosing two pools independently - again bringing down the cost of conversion. A basic pump and tank system - similar to that used for dosing sodium hypochlorite. 13 Energy Costs Total Dissolved Solids - TDS (salt residues from various pool chemicals) are the chief culprit of corrosion in the pool and plant. hth contains much less salt than alternative sanitisers - reducing the need, time and energy of costly dilution. Reduced Chemicals With a lower ph than other sanitisers, hth can achieve a saving of 50% on ph correction costs. Liquid chlorine, for example, has a ph of 12.5 which is almost 100 times stronger, on the ph scale, than hth Grout Loss Water has a natural hunger for calcium until it reaches around 250ppm* and as a result will leach calcium from grout and cement below the tiles. To prevent this, many operators add calcium separately in the form of calcium chloride flake. Massive amounts are required to keep levels up, but this also dramatically increases TDS. This, in turn can only be reduced by dilution, which reduces the calcium hardness so that more calcium chloride flake needs to be added - creating an unbreakable cycle. hth - the answer to your pool problems Ideal for maintaining balanced water conditions and increasing the life expectancy of pool plant and grout, hth can also save up to 50% on ph correction and water dilution. Grout loss and corrosion problems associated with pools using sodium hypochlorite. With hth, calcium is added during the chlorination process, and since most hth pools happily operate above 250ppm of hardness, the grout is left untouched. Corrosion TDS - the main culprit of corrosion - is caused when two dissimilar metals are in close proximity, ie. copper or bronze and iron (which can be found in calorifiers and pumps). The pool water, with its high TDS, acts as an electrolyte, allowing the ions from the anode to migrate to the cathode and a galvanic reaction takes place. hth stops corrosion in two ways - by reducing TDS by about 50% so making the water less conductive and providing a protective calcium layer when the water is in balance (according to the Langelier Saturation Index). This laying down of the calcium layer stops the electrolysis from taking place. Easy, Safe and Convenient to Use The Health and Safety Executive calls for a product to be used in its safest possible form.
