A player standing in a playable area reaches over the bleachers to save a pass and then he/she falls into the bleachers following the contact and play continues. F 3-1-3a 23 All net standards including the referee stand shall be padded up to 4'. F The height of the net shall be 7' 4 1/4". T Net antennas shall be placed on the outside edge of the sideline. It is a player position foul if at the time of serve, the LF player s left foot is on, but not beyond, the left sideline. Unnecessary delay is called when the libero, who is in the set, is standing ready for play outside the court boundaries at the moment of serve. It is a player position foul if the LF player is positioned so that neither foot is closer to the left sideline than both feet of the CF player. Illegal alignment occurs when, at the moment of serve Team R s CB is closer to the right sideline than the RB at the moment of contact of the serve. Illegal alignment occurs when, at the moment of serve Team R's center front setter has one foot touching the floor closer to the center line than both feet of the center back player. Illegal alignment occurs when, at the moment of serve the CB and LB on the serving team are both nearer the right side line than the server (RB). 8 T T 6-4-1b 142 It is legal for a team to request the serving order by the team's coach or playing captain while the ball is dead. It is a foul when a group of two or more of Team S's teammates stand close together, blocking the view of the receiving team, and the ball with a low trajectory is served directly over them. F The coach submits his/her roster eight minutes prior to the end of the timed warm-up. T An accurate roster shall be submitted to the scorer 10 minutes prior to the end of the timed prematch warm-up. T 7-1-1b 145 The libero may be designated with two numbers (15/L4). A loss of rally is declared when the server, while contacting the ball, steps on but not over the line that marks the width of the service area. A loss of rally is awarded if the server's approach starts outside the hash marks then steps entirely inside the service area prior to contact of the serve. Player S1 is awarded a re-serve, then serves two more points before being replaced by S8. Player S8 is also awarded a re-serve on the next call for serve. F The serve is legal when the server attempts a 2nd reserve during that team's term of service. F After a reserve has been directed and before the signal for serve the R2 recognizes a request for a time out.

A replay shall be declared when two opponents cause the ball to briefly come to rest above the net through simultaneous contact (joust). It is legal and play continues when opposing players hold the ball at the same instant above the net and the ball goes onto Team R s side of the net. A team has only two hits remaining after a person who was involved in a joust at the net reaches down and saves the ball that has fallen to his/her side. F 9-4-7a 191 A replay shall be declared if teammates simultaneously contact the ball. T A team has only two hits remaining after the CB has legal multiple contacts with his/her first hit. T 9-4-8a 193 T 9-4-8b 194 A team has only two hits remaining after the CF miss-times a jump to block a hard-driven spike. Upon returning to the floor, the spiked ball contacts his/her left wrist, deflects to the right forearm, then to the head before rebounding into the air. On a team's first hit, a player plays a ball off his/her forearms to the knee followed by a legal set by a teammate. T 9-4-8b 195 It is legal for a player to have multiple contacts on a team's first hit. T 9-4-8b 196 T 9-5-1b, 9-5-4, note 197 T 9-5-1b; T 9-5-1c, 9-5-5a 199 F 9-5-1c(2), 9-5-5a 200 A hard driven spike hits the center back on the shoulder which caused the ball to pop up. The center back then swings and contacts the ball, passing it to a teammate. The R1 whistles and signals a double hit. An illegal back-row attack shall not be called until the ball has completely crossed the net or is legally blocked by the opponent. A back-row player may reach across the top of the net to save a ball back to a teammate provided the ball has not completely passed the vertical plane of the net. When a back-row player who is close to the net and whose hands are above the height of the net, makes contact with the ball that is coming from the opponent, it is considered an illegal block. The first referee must consider, regardless of any other factors, whether a back-row player in front of the attack line is intending to block the ball.

11 F 9-5-1c(3) 201 A back-row player may participate in a collective block. T T T A team has only two hits remaining after a ball is hit into a back-row player whose hands are entirely below the height of the net. A back-row player may count as a team s first contact if the ball is blocked back into him/her and he/she is completely below the height of the net. A back-row setter on the receiving team who is in front of the attack line sets a ball that is entirely above the net directing it to a teammate. The teammate then legally contacts the ball and play continues. F A back row player on the attack line may complete an attack above the height of the net. T A loss of rally is declared when the RB on Team S, who is close to the net and in the vicinity of the ball, participates in a completed block. T 9-5-5a 207 A back-row player may fake an attack while positioned in front of the attack line. T 9-5-5a 208 T 9-5-5b(1) 209 F 9-5-5b(2) 210 A back-row player may participate in a block provided he/she does not contact the ball or be a part of a collective block in which one or more other players contact the ball. A back-row player may while positioned in front of the attack line, legally contact a ball that is partially above the height of the net and direct it into the opponent's court. A back-row player may attack a ball which is completely above the height of the net, having taken off from on or behind the attack line. F 9-5-6a 211 The libero may complete an attack above the height of the net. T 9-5-6a 212 T 9-5-6b 213 F 9-5-6b 214 Play continues when the libero contacts the ball below the height of the net while positioned in front of the attack line. The libero, while in front of the attack line, sets a ball that is below the height of the net and the ball inadvertently crosses the net and the teams play on. The libero may set using overhand finger action on or in front of the attack line for a completed attack above the plane of the net by the next player. F 9-5-6c 215 A libero may fake or attempt a block. F 9-5-6d 216 The libero may rotate and play in the front row. F T T T It is a foul when a player contacts the floor and crosses the center line with a hand that is partially over the center line. It is a line violation when a player lands on the center line with a hand and an elbow touching the opponent's court. It is a line violation when a player's foot is completely across the center line but not near any opposing players. It is legal for a back row player to touch the floor across the center line with his/her hand provided part of the hand remains above the center line.

12 F The ball remains in play when a setter s foot completely crosses the center line and there is no interference with opponents. F It is a line violation when a player crosses the extension of the center line outside the court. T It is a line violation when a player interferes with an opponent when completely across the center line extension. T A player attempts to play a ball, which has partially crossed the vertical plane of the net extended. T Play should continue if CF on Team S reaches over the net, making no contact on the ball, but does touch Team R after the ball has left the setter's hand. T T 9-6-4c 227 A loss of rally is awarded when R2 blocks a ball completely on the opponent's side of the net after the serving team has completed its attack. It is legal and play continues when a blocker contacts the ball over the opposing court while it is falling near the net and in the official's judgment, no member of the attacking team can make a play on it. T It is a foul when a player blocks a served ball that is completely above the net. T T F 9-6-7a 231 S1 sets his/her team's pass towards S3 and the ball barely breaks the plane of the net when R4 blocks the pass. The setter on the receiving team saves the ball from contacting the floor after a teammate unsuccessfully attacked the serve. The uniform of a Team S player touches the net as she spikes the ball to the floor in Team R s court. T 9-6-7a 232 Players are not penalized when the force of the ball pushes the net or net cables into the blocker. T 9-6-7a 233 It is legal and play continues when the hair of the RF touches the net as she sets the ball. F 9-6-7a 234 It is legal and play continues when the middle blocker on Team S insignificantly touches the net. A replay shall be declared when the timer's audio signal sounds in the middle of a rally and it does affect the outcome of the play

T After a time-out, it is legal for a libero replacement to take place after both teams are on the floor provided it is not a second replacement during the same dead ball. T b 290 A libero may replace an injuried or ill player if no other substitutions are available. F c 291 A libero may replace a disqualifed player. T The libero may serve. F The libero must leave the court before replacing an incoming server. F 10-4 Pen Unnecessary delay is called when the libero waits until the contact of the serve to replace a player. T The team charged with a time-out may end it prior to the 60 seconds expiring. T Request for a time-out shall be signaled by the head coach or playing captain. T Team A arrives with only five players at set time. The coach calls a time-out to give her players more time to arrive. T , A second consecutive time-out requested prior to the start of a set shall be granted. F Request for time-out may be granted up to contact for serve. F Charged time-outs are those requested by a team or charged to a team by a R1 or R2.

16 F Each team will be granted a third time-out when the score is T Charged time-outs shall be 60 seconds unless both teams have returned to the court. F T 11-2 Penalty F F If the setter and coach of Team S confer on the court during a time-out, an unnecessary delay is assessed to Team S. Unnecessary delay shall be charged if a team does not promptly report to the court at the conclusion of the time-out. The R1 shall immediately stop play when a few wet spots of blood are observed on a player s uniform. The R1 shall immediately stop play when an open wound happens during the set and charge the team with a time out. F A five-minute intermission shall be allowed between set two and set three. T 12 note Sportsmanship expectations must be a part of the prematch conference with officials, captains and coaches. F Assistant coaches may stand in the libero replacement zone to coach during dead balls. T b 310 T d 311 F T Assistant coaches may stand during any dead ball to verify with the R2 the number of time-outs used. An assistant coach may stand to applaud an outstanding play, but then must sit back down on the bench. It is considered unsportsmanlike conduct for a head coach to stand in the libero replacement zone for the purpose of coaching during a dead ball. The head coach loses their right to stand and coach in the libero zone for the entire match if any personnel on the team bench receive an unsportsmanlike conduct card during a match T , card procedure The head coach receives a yellow card for unsporting conduct when the referees cannot determine who the offender(s) was on the bench. T b 324 T 12-2 Penalty 1b 325 T 12-2 Penalty 1b 326 Before the match if a player disrespectfully refuses to remove the jewelry during warm-up, an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty shall be assessed. A player is given a red card for a single serious offense. The R1 awards a loss of rally/point to the opponent. When there are multiple unsportsmanlike conduct offenses, all offenders are penalized, even if all offenses are committed by the same team. F 12-2 Procedure 1 and For a first minor offense, a yellow card is administered by the R2 or R1 during a live ball. T 12-2 Procedure It is the responsibility of the R1 to immediately administer any card(s) requested by the R2.
