6 AVCA Postseason Student-Athlete Awards Information The AVCA women s volleyball postseason awards program is in its 36 th year. The AVCA is proud to honor deserving student-athletes annually by selecting All-Region (one 14-person team and six honorable mention student-athletes per region) and All-America teams (14 student-athletes per a first, second and third team), highlighted by the selection of the AVCA Division I Player of the Year. The AVCA All- America selection committee is comprised of ten members, in addition to the AVCA Awards chairperson (page 3). To ensure geographic representation, these individuals represent the ten AVCA Awards Regions listed on the previous page. The AVCA All-Americans and Division I Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year will be recognized at the AVCA All-America/Players of the Year Banquet at the 2016 AVCA Annual Convention in Columbus, Ohio on December 16. NOMINATING PROCEDURES The postseason nomination procedure is an online process. There are no restrictions regarding how many student-athletes one team may nominate, as there are no restrictions on the number of student-athletes that one team can have placed on the AVCA All-Region/All-American teams. Please use your professional judgment to only nominate those student-athletes who legitimately have a chance to earn AVCA All-Region honors. The All-Region team members as well as Honorable Mention selections will be considered for All-America first, second, third teams or Honorable Mention if a Video File is uploaded by Dec. 5 pm (ET). NOMINATION RULES & REQUIREMENTS TERMS FOR DISQUALIFICATION REGION FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR CANDIDATES The general requirements for nominating a student-athlete for AVCA postseason honors are: The student-athlete must meet all eligibility requirements as listed in the rules adopted by her respective institution; The student-athlete may be in her first, second, third or fourth year of eligibility; The student-athlete must be nominated by her institution; The student-athlete must have participated in 2/3 (66.7%) of all sets (not matches) during the current season at the time of the nomination deadline; AVCA Two-Thirds Participation Waiver: Student-Athletes who fail to participate in two-thirds of all sets (not matches) during the current season due to Institution-approved participation in Olympic, Pan American, World Championships or World University Games are eligible for AVCA All-America consideration if all other nomination requirements are met. Video Upload Creation All Athletes at All Positions: An on-screen identification must appear at the beginning of the video, including: Athlete s Name Uniform number An on-screen photo of the nominee is suggested Two TOTAL segments in this order: one 2-minute highlight package segment; one 3-minute continuous play segment o Rules for creating the 2-minute highlight package segment One highlight segment maximum of 2 minutes. Footage from television matches may be used and spliced into this segment. No sound, enhancement (includes slow motion), or propaganda allowed. o Rules for creating the 3-minute continuous segment: Before the continuous segment begins, coaches must include an identification card that shows the athlete s: Starting position Uniform number Name of opponent and date of match TV footage may not be used in the 3-minute continuous play segment. The footage used must come from a single set (i.e., you may not use two minutes from the end of set 1 and the first minute of set 2). Footage MUST be shot from the end line (elevated view preferred, floor-level view may be a disadvantage). The nominee may be on either side of the net for this segment of the video You must edit out large stoppages of play including timeouts, floor wiping, officials discussions ect. It is important not to exclude any play during the editing process. Do not edit short dead time between serves that does not include the above exceptions. Any other editing will disqualify your student-athlete. Before the start of each segment, coaches may choose to include an information card that includes impressive stats or achievements that could be used to boost the athlete s candidacy as an All-American Nominees will be disqualified for any of the following: Late receipt of nomination materials and video upload file Inappropriate editing of footage segments as detailed above Any part of the requirements above are not met (including missing video segments) 11

12 Supporting Documentation: You MUST include the official NCAA Box Score Forms for the 3-minute segment and the Video Identification Form (page 13). These must be ed to the AVCA at Video Upload Files: View and time your video file before submitting o The AVCA highly suggests reviewing the video with other members of the volleyball staff If the athlete is not able to be identified by jersey #, then the footage is not being shot close enough for adequate viewing purposes Highlight the nominee, not the rally. Showing the student-athlete in the best possible manner may mean including footage from a match against your strongest competition even if it is not your student-athlete's best match. The committee members are interested in rating your student-athlete against the best competition you faced. For better player identification, zoom in as close as possible to the court; maintain the end line and the antennas as your guide. (Antennas should be shown). Do not use arrows to point out athlete! 12

13 All-American Video Identification Form The following form must be ed to on the day in which the video file is submitted to the AVCA. Only one copy of this form is necessary per nominee. Please fill out the form completely. One nominated student-athlete per Video Upload File. Footage MUST be shot from the end line only (elevated view preferred over floor-level view). The athlete may be on either side of the net. The two-minute highlight segment will come first on the video followed by the one three-minute segment.
