14 HAITI GET FIRST WIN TO STEAL THIRD IN CAZOVA UNDER 19 CHAMPIONSHIPS August 30, 2015 Spanish Town, Jamaica Adolphe Rudolph spent much of this tournament motivating his team seemingly with very little success. On Sunday, the final day of the CAZOVA Under 19 Championships, they ensured that he could return to Haiti with his pride intact as the team defeated Trinidad and Tobago three sets to one to finish third at the four team tournament held at the G.C Foster College in Spanish Town, Jamaica. In what was a scrappy affair, Haiti emerged victorious 25-13, 24-26, 25-21, An obviously elated coach said the victory was being worked on throughout the tournament during which he was constantly motivating the players. "This is why I am happy about our final match," he said. Rudolph said he saw marginal improvements in his team's final game so they will now take it step by step in an effort to get better. Denilson Francois had another solid game with 10 spikes, six kill blocks and 12 rebounds. Adonis Daniel also turned in a decent performance registering seven spikes; five kill blocks and 10 rebounds to cap off an allround creditable performance for the tournament's newcomers. Trinidad and Tobago won their opening match against Haiti to get start the tournament on a high but it was all downhill after that as they lost their last four games including the playoff for third to finish fourth. Tyrique Nicolas produced 21 spikes for Trinidad and Pounder Evlon contributed two blocks and nine rebounds but unlike the opening day they were no match for Haiti. Head Coach Gideon Dickson lamented his team's poor run of form following its opening day win. "With youth athletes it is always about being consistent and being focused. Our guys were not consistent or focused enough." Dickson said that there were several key areas in which the team did not play well enough. "We came up short in attacking the ball and there was some inconsistency in terms of setting the ball. That played a major role in plenty of the results in the game."

15 JAMAICA DETHRONE BARBADOS AS CAZOVA UNDER 19 CHAMPIONS August 30, 2015 Jamaica is the 2015 Caribbean Zonal Volleyball under 19 champions! The hosts of the 2015 tournament defeated Barbados 25-22, 25-23, to win the four-team tournament, the first it had ever won in international volleyball competition at any level. The team will now represent CAZOVA in the NORCECA Under 19 tournament that is to be held sometime between later this year and next year. Jamaica also exacted a measure of revenge on the defending champions that beat them three sets to one on the first day of the tournament last Thursday. In Sunday s final, Jamaica overcame a six-point deficit in what was a keenly contested first set that got the home crowd consisting mainly of college students cheering wildly. Barbados again began the second set racing to an 8-2 lead before a time out was called. On the resumption Jamaica went on an eight-one run to lead Ten to nine soon became 13 to nine as the Jamaicans tried to race to a two-set to love lead. Barbados weren t having it. The defending champions came into the final on an unbeaten streak of four games and were not going to roll over and die. Spurred by their outside hitter Brandon Callender, who had 18 spikes, and libero Akeel Oxley, Barbados rallied to take the lead 22-18, when Jamaica s head coach Steve Davis called a time out. Following the break, Jamaica clawed their way back to eke out a close win Facing a daunting task of winning three straight sets against an opponent growing in confidence as the game went on, Barbados battled bravely but the influence of tournament MVP Jovan Thomas, Jamaica s captain whose nine left handed spikes were virtually unstoppable, and six from Shavar James Jamaica they fairly raced to a comfortable win to snatch the title. Amid cheers, the players waved banner flags and rolled around on the court in celebration. I am extremely satisfied. Like I have been saying at the beginning the guys are young but they are hard working. They never complained and every training session they got better and every game they got better, said an elated Davis following the historic win. We took a set from Barbados in the first match and that set was so we knew we had what it takes to beat them. Davis said the team was relaxed and very confident before Sunday s final and it showed on the court.

16 John Stuart, the Head Coach of the dethroned champions said the unforced errors proved to be the downfall of his team. It was unforced errors and too many bad serves, he said in an attempt to explain why his team had been outplayed in the final. In all fairness, Jamaica played better than Barbados and deserved to win. He added that a number of his players may have been unnerved playing in the final. A bit of fright had some of the fellas, he said. The award for Best Libero went to Trinidad and Tobago s Marley Davidson.
