Overview of the Intramural Program The Intramural Program is designed to give students an opportunity to participate in organized sport while playing with student peers. Offering a variety of sports, there are multiple options for all students to connect sport with life and learning. We believe that the true spirit of sport is to strive for personal accomplishment and excellence through a complete and honest effort. By doing so, an individual can learn many positive qualities such as commitment, honesty and cooperation. It is important that an environment is created within the College which supports and nurtures this learning. Conestoga College puts emphasis on three main qualities: Honesty, Fairness, and Respect. By voluntarily participating in Intramurals, ALL participants agree to the following: Participate with honesty, and to strive to win only by legitimate means; Respect and adhere to both the written rules of the sport, including the eligibility and conduct terms, and the accepted rules of fair play; That violence and intimidation have no place within Intramurals and refuse to use such tactics; Maintain control of myself and my teammates; Respect officials and accept their decisions without argument; That teammates and opponents are worthy of my respect and shall be treated accordingly; Behave graciously in triumph or defeat; Not to play under the influence of drugs or alcohol. CODE OF CONDUCT Conestoga College is committed to provide a working and learning environment that is free of discrimination and harassment and supportive of academic achievement and the dignity, self-esteem and fair treatment of everyone taking part in its activities. The college seeks to create a climate of mutual respect that reinforces opportunity and allows for each person to contribute fully to the development and well-being of the community. The college recognizes its responsibility to ensure that every person in its community is protected from unlawful discrimination and harassment in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code. Any action or failure to act that results in harassment or discrimination on any of the grounds enumerated under the Code will not be tolerated by the college. Any behaviour, whether it be physically or verbally motivated, that is deemed to be harmful to any participants, staff and/or community members is unacceptable. If any participant engages in such behaviour, the participant may be but not limited to suspension from the sport league for the current term to suspension from all Intramural programs.

CAPTAIN S RESPONSIBILITY The team captain is responsible for all actions of their team including player conduct, eligibility, and attendance. Every captain must accept the Captain's Agreement which states they understand and will abide by the policies and procedures before they are able to add players to the roster. Captains are the immediate liaison between the Sport Conenvers and the players. Therefore, it is crucial that Captain's attend all required meetings or send a representative in their absence. It is extremely important that First Time Captains attend these meetings as we will go over adding your team s roster, scheduling, rule changes and other highlighted rules. Failure to attend may result in your team's removal from the league. All Captains must attend the Captain's Meeting or send a representative to ensure their place in the league, as well as to get their team schedule and be updated on any specific rule changes or policies. Captains must ensure that their players act in a respectful manner, and are the representative of the team at meetings, and on the playing field. It is expected that the Captain be a shining example of good behaviour in the best interest of all the players in the league. We understand that captains cannot fully control the attitudes and behaviours of their players, but it is their responsibility to communicate expectations, help to resolve conflicts, and act respectfully at all times. *It is strongly advised that Captains are comfortable with every player on their team, as they assume responsibility for the player's eligibility and team conduct. If a captain has concerns with players on their team, we recommend not putting said players on your roster* It is also the responsibility of the Captain to ensure that the proper information of their players are listed on the team roster. Captains assume communication responsibilities between players and the league if the information is incorrect. Captains must also ensure that they add league staff to their safe list. Captains who do not receive communication from the league due to improper information or set up will not get any special considerations from the league. ROSTER ISSUES Captains will be responsible for submitting the rosters of their team. It is expected that the captain will do so before their first game. Only team members who are on the roster are eligible to play. The only exception is if there is written consent from the Convener or Recreation and Fitness Coordinator. If there are any issues, you should contact league staff immediately so they can help you with your issue. Please make sure to let us know the player s information (Full name, student ID number, ) as well as the sport and team name so that we can you resolve the issue promptly.

Player Eligibility All currently registered Conestoga Students with a valid OneCard who have paid their Student Services Fee are eligible for all leagues. OneCards will be checked at EVERY game. No Onecard, No Play. Students who are not on Doon or Cambridge Campus have the ability to pay their Student Services fee to become eligible to play in any Intramural league. Fees MUST be paid before they are able to participate. Any player caught participating without a membership may result in suspension from the league as well as the team s removal from further play. You may only play for one term, per league sport. Captains are responsible for the eligibility of all of their players. Players under suspension are ineligible to participate. TEAM ENTRY To enter a team into an Intramural League, Teams must do the following: 1. Register either ONLINE or in person at the Student Recreation Centre Front Desk during the registration period each semester. 2. Forms of payment include Cash, Debit, MasterCard, and VISA. 3. All Captains MUST attend the beginning of term Intramural Information Meeting. This is where we will explain exactly how to use the website, how to fill out your roster and answer any questions that you have. This meeting will cover everything you need to know to have a successful term, therefore you don t need to add players at the time of registration. 4. Leagues fill up quickly and the number of teams in the league is dependent on available facility space. Teams that wait until the last days to register risk being put on a waiting list. Team Naming Policy We encourage participants to be creative while choosing their team names. However, any team name that is selected must be in good taste, it cannot be offensive, demeaning or humiliating to any individual or group and must abide by Conestoga College s Rights and Responsibilities Human Rights Policy that covers harassment and discrimination. Team Withdrawals and Refund Policy Participants enrolled in a program or class may transfer or withdraw until 7 days prior to the program start date. Transfers or refunds within 7 days, but before, the program start date will only be issued if a waiting list is active for the program and must be authorized by the Program Coordinator. Once the program has begun only a pro-rated credit will be issued. Programs, camps or classes may be cancelled if

minimum registration numbers are not obtained prior to the start date. In this case a full refund will be issued. If a class is cancelled by the Conestoga Athletics and Recreation Department or due to weather, it will be rescheduled at the next available time. INDIVIDUAL ENTRIES Individual teams are made up of those individuals who register during the Intramural Registration period and are then put on a team together with other individual registrations. To register for the Individuals Team: Individuals can register online or in person at the Front Desk in the Student Recreation Centre during the registration period each semester. Please note that if there is not enough interest in a given sport, you will be notified via . Free Agents are able to let the convener know through their registration information like being put on the same team as a friend, unique positions you play (e.g. goalie), or if you would like to represent the Individual team as the captain. Pay the individual fee of $100 for Ice Hockey. We accept Cash, Debit, MasterCard and VISA. The number of Free Agent teams formed is based on registration, and therefore participants who drop out jeopardize the participation of others. Though we cannot force you to stay with the Free Agent team, there will be no refund. Please note that the Free Agent Teams may have many players on it, and we do our best to make the participant sizes reasonable. It is important that students looking to sign up as a Free Agent are expecting to make the majority of the games. The Free Agent Team is not a placeholder for participants unsure of whether or not they have a team. The Free Agent Team s purpose is to provide an opportunity for those players who do not have an organized team an opportunity to participate. Participants found abusing the Free Agent system (stock piling a free agent team with friends, inviting non registered students to play, registering each term and then dropping out, etc.) may be suspended from further league play. SCHEDULING OF GAMES All games will be scheduled within the allotted time each week. Games will be scheduled at the beginning of the season and we will attempt to balance the schedule ensuring that each team plays both early and late games. Missed games, Cancellations and Snow Days On occasion, teams may not be able to play in all of their scheduled games due to unforeseen circumstances such as cancellations due to bad weather conditions, emergency situations, or facility conflicts. The league staff will do their best to reschedule all cancelled games, but may be unable to accommodate. Any game that was played, 50% or more, will not be rescheduled. The score at that time will be recorded. Refunds will not be given for missed games due to these special cancellations. However, on special occasions, if a team is found to have a detrimental season due to lack of play, a resolution may be explored.

Playoffs Every team, regardless of standings make Playoffs, providing they have not forfeited multiple games and have abided by the Code of Conduct. Playoff Schedules are done after the regular season and will be posted online and sent via to all captains. Playoffs are single elimination tournament brackets. Forfeits Conestoga College is not responsible for teams that forfeit games and/or are removed from the league due to behaviour violations. Refunds or partial refunds will not be awarded for these situations. Conestoga College also cannot guarantee that a team's opponents will attend each game, and therefore teams that do not play league games due to a default or forfeit of an opposing team will not get a refund. However, on special occasions, if a team is found to have a detrimental season due to lack of play, a resolution may be explored. A team that forfeits multiple games may be removed from the league in which case the remaining games may be rescheduled to accommodate the remaining teams.
