2 Perfect Stances Jodie McCrudden Receives the ANNE MCGETTIGAN MEMORIAL CUP Jodie McCrudden received the Anne McGettigan Memorial Cup for most improved student of the year 2017 in Extreme TaeKwonDo Academy. The Cup is in rememberance of Anne McGettigan who is the mother to Lisa Kerr who is wife to Coach of the club Brian. Anne helped Brian and Lisa get the club started back in November She travelled with the club to different competitions at home and abroad to show her support and will always be remembered within the club for her work. She might be gone but never forgotten. Orgionally started to Increase my Fitness now I want to improve my strength and skills in sparring. If you could fix just one thing in your class what would it be? I m happy with my training but the room is freezing. On a scale of 1 to 10, how good are you under pressure? 1 is Poor, 10 is Great: 7 On a scale of 1 to 10, how well do you recover from a mistake? 6 Accuracy is part of all sports, what requires the most accuracy in your sport? Hitting my target and being able to score the most points when possible The best athletes are said to be in the ZONE. Have you ever experienced that? Describe. My second fight in Dublin as I was able to stay calm and react to there kicks Describe a perfect overall performance. (What you would like to achieve.) I d like to become more flexible and to improve my technique and footwork. I d also like to get to G1 level and fight in bigger competitions

5 BARCELONA XVIII OPEN JORDAN 2017 Team Extreme Ireland are a local West Belfast TaeKwonDo Team based in Blackstaff Complex. Origionaly from Holy Trinity Youth Club the Team moved to Blackstaff to start full time training for the Team. After returning from Dublin in February with 11 Gold Medals at the Irish Nationals the Team headed out to Barcelona. Things nearly didn t happen when Coach Brian s passport never arrived but thanks to Paul Maskey making a few phone calls Brian received his passport at 7pm the night before leaving to Barcelona lol. On top of that when they arrived at the Ryanair checkout in Dublin the gate had closed was this a sign for the Team not to go??? Luckily the staff of Ryanair where very helpful and due to French Air Strike the flight was delayed and we where marched out to the plane on the runway. The Team travelled out on the Thursday 9th March Coach Brian Birthday (21yrs AGAIN). Picked up and dropped off at Hotel where the Team relaxed and stayed. Friday involved training to losen up and keep weights down. We travelled to the venue to have a look at the setup and was amazed at the size of the arena. 5 rings for competition on Saturday. Friday night everyone weighed in and set off for food to recover the bodies. Katie Johnston decided to throw she insists dropped but the team seen her throw the key over the balcony (Think she wanted a closer look at the French Team). Eventually got key back and went and fed their hungry tummies. One final stretch before bed for an early start Saturday morning. Competition began first fight 9am and Odhran Braham was first up in Ring 1. Starting off a bit slow could have been nerves but soon he got into full flow scoring to the body and head giving him his first victory and putting him into the semi finals. In the semi final he caught his opponent with a devasting body shot which knocked the wind clean out of him forcing him to take a count. Aged just 13 years Odhran has proved himself time and time again winning the semi final and stopping his opponent in the final lifting GOLD. Dylan and Zoey are the youngest players on the Team and proved worthy of their place collecting Bronze and Gold respectively. Zoey impressed the crowd with the other 4 rings holding their fights for her final bout when Ireland took on England. The crowd showed great appreciation for both fighters and both showed great respect for each other with Zoey aged 7 years her coach and Dad said he couldn t be prouded. Joshua Cully having shook off an illness before heading out was gutted when leading the semi final bout going into the last 10 seconds and lost the fight A terrific performance for his first time on the international circuit winning a well deserved bronze. Katie Johnston give it her all but give away to much height to a more experience Spanish player taking home a hard earned bronze but has learned a lot from her experience. Nathan Kerr the eldest on the Team just turning 16 years fought Senior taking Bronze. And all I can say is WOW. He played amazing making his way into the Semi Final against French National Champion aged 22years. This was a boy against a grown man but Nathan proved everybody he has what it take to be champion taking the fight to the French player right up to the final bell. Both players scoring smashing shots and Nathan scoring an amazing head shot at the end of round 2 scoring 3 points but referee disallowed saying it was after the bell!!! Big respect to both players who came off mats and Nathan has now been invited to France to train with the French Team. Sisters Rachel and Leah both took home Gold and Silver respectively. Could very of easily of been 2 x GOLD. Rachel proved too skill full out pointing her opponent in the final only giving away 1 point in the whole tournament. Where as Leah stepped up an age group due to her birthday 2 days before competition aged 11yrs she was fighting under 15years. Winning the semi final with the last kick of the last second to win I thought that was a tough battle. And she did it all again in the final against a home town opponent. Losing the first round she digged deep and proved she had better stamina and came back and won second round. In the third it was tight all the way till the final bell when the home girl kicked a head shot which LEAH DID BLOCK with both hands but it scored. Coach and Father Brian complained which fell on deaf ears. Losing the final taking home silver. Overall the performance of the Team was amazing. Brian said he thought we might go out win one or two fights but gain a lot of experience but we went out and KICKED ASS and brought the experience and brought home 3 GOLD, 2 Silver and 3 Bronze. Celebrations where in local diner where we feasted like Champions. The players celebrated through the night and did have a look around the beautiful city of Barcelona before heading home. Making friends from France, Spain, Manchester, Scotland, Morocco, Italy and more we promise to be back and next time we are looking at the Team trophy. BARCELONA 9-12TH MARCH 2017

OFFICE Tel: E: 24 hour Lifeline WORLD & OLYMPIC MEDALIST Bianca Walkden Bianca Walkden has had quite the impressive medal hall and is best known for becoming the second GB athlete to win gold at the World Championships, after Sarah Stevenson. Bianca s win in 2015 was considered quite the victory as she had just come out of rehab from a recent knee surgery and prior to this she won gold at the European Championships in Liverpool-born Bianca started her Taekwondo career at 11yrs when she attended a local club with her best friend. At 15yrs she won bronze at the Junior European Championships, which was then swiftly followed by a remarkable silver at the Junior World Championships the next year. In 2016, Walkden retained her European title and won a bronze medal at the Rio Olympic Games. WHEN DID YOU START TAEKWONDO AND WHY: I was 11. I went out with my friend, Becky, to the Liverpool Elite club. She eventually quit, I didn t. OTHER SPORTS PLAYED: I got involved with every sport; but I really enjoyed dancing and tennis. AMBITION: Olympic gold. WHY SHOULD THE PUBLIC WATCH TAEKWONDO: It s so dynamic. There are unexpected elements. It s not a boring sport. IF SOMEONE GAVE YOU 1 MILLION, WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH IT: I would make sure I got that Olympic gold and then just spend, spend spend...i would blow it. I m not going to lie. SOMETHING YOU DIDN T KNOW ABOUT BIANCA WALKDEN: Can burp on demand! Can t stay still for five minutes. 9 1 EUROPEAN CHAMPION 2017 LUXEMBOURG OPEN 11TH JUNE 2017 A Team of 4 Players headed out to Luxembourg to take part in the Luxembourg Open G1 and the European Masters Championships This is the TOP Games in Europe. To win a medal at G1 or European Level means you are GOOD. Odhran and Nathan both got drew up at the same time in 2 different rings. So Craig Eden from Scotland offered to help coach Odhran in his first match. Nathan fought a tough German in his first bought and was unlucky to go out Its all experience now as this was his first G1 match and Junior Level aswell. Odhran beat Switzerland Coming back from 10-2 down to put himself into Semi-Final against a very experienced French Souleyman Alaphilippe. Tight match against France who took Gold in Poland in September. Right till the bell finishing 6-4 to Odhran Braham. Now against the unbeaten Milan Molle from Holland. We tried everything but Milan was on form on the day and Odhran just couldn t catch him going out in the Final Not for the want of trying. But a well earned Silver Medal. Brian Kerr coach and Player for Team Extreme Ireland had Nathan his son coach him to Gold. Very narrowly making it into medal position by beating a tough Turkey Player MURAT KARABULUT in the very last second with the final kick of the fight. Putting him into the Semi Final against German ÜMIT KALKAN. Umit caught Brian with an awesome headshot which Brian gladly returned the favour with a KO and put him into Final against Germany again and another win. 32 Years in the making and Brian Kerr eventually did it.
