TABLE OF CONTENTS Section I Introduction Section 2 The Game Section 3 Scoring Section 4 The Tournament
Section 1 Introduction to the Challenge Background Every year there is on average 90 fire fighters die on duty your mission if you choose to accept it is to create a bot capable of entering a burning building and get civilians out before the fire gets to them Game Objectives Rescue as many civilians (green balls) from the burning building (arena) in two minutes. Carefully move them to safety outside the building. Green balls (civilians) should not touch an orange ball (fire) during the rescue operation or they will be lost. Lose too many citizens and the rescue operation ends early. Put out fire (orange ball) by removing it from the arena to its designated square help your rescue efforts Points are received for rescues. The more difficult the rescue the more points they are worth. Work quickly, as the fire spreads every thirty seconds and two new orange balls are added to the middle of the field. Game Field Competition field flooring is wood. (Two 4 x8 sheets) The inner area of the game field is 8 by 8. The goal line (rescue area) is 10 from the front of the area where the wall opens. Players may have two minutes to score as many points as possible. Every 30 seconds two orange balls are added in the central area.
Each green ball that touches an orange ball is removed and counts as a strike Three strikes at any point and the game immediately ends. Green Ball Green/Blue Ball Green/Red Ball Green/Black Ball Orange ball (Fire) Two orange footballs are add to this point every 30 second. Goal Line Rescue Area Robot Starting Location Field Structures Middle wall piece Half hexagon piece L piece Straight piece
Section 2 The Game Field & Timing There are two break down walls to provide access to the field o Break down walls are up to start the game o Robots may knock these walls down at any point by pulling them forward. Robots have 2 mins to score as many points as possible Three strikes at any point ends the game. Current points are scored. Two orange balls (fire) are added to the central point every 30 second once the game as begun. Balls knocked out of the field and not taken past the goal line will be replaced to their original location. Game will be played 1 robot at a time. Strikes If a green ball contacts an orange football at any point, the green ball is removed from the game and the robot receives a strike. A single green ball can only create a single strike, never more. If a robot gets 3 strikes and any point, the game ends and current points are scored. Strikes may be removed by putting out fire. Each orange football taken past the goal line reduces a robots strike count by one. A robot cannot have less than zero strikes.
Robots & Teams Teams consist of 3-5 players. A single student may only be on one team. Teams may alternate and have multiple drivers. Robot must be made of VEX parts and any items for the bonus parts list ONLY. It may also only use one VEX Cortex (microprocessor) Bonus Parts Robots may also utilize the following as part of their construction: o 24 of electrical Tape o 24 of twine o 5 zip ties o One 3d printed part o One laser cut part Section 3 Scoring Scoring A green ball must completely pass the goal line to be considered rescued Rescued green ball = 1 point Rescued green ball with blue tape = 2 points Rescued green ball with red tape = 5 points Rescued green ball with black tape = 3 points or 6 points o Inner wall (straight piece) is broken down 3pts o Inner wall is standing at the end of the game 6pts Scores are totaled only at the completion of the round.
Bonus Points Bonus points will be given for use of a 3d printed and/or laser cut component utilized as part of the chassis (structure), motion (wheels/gearing), and/or tool (arms & manipulators) system of the robot. o 3D printed component in chassis, motion, or tool system = 4 bonus points o Laser Cut component in chassis, motion, or tool system = 4 bonus points Game Rules Robots may not attach to any part of the field. Do not attempt to knock down field walls, except for breakdown walls Judges tally final scores. If a team has a scoring concern, the Head Judge will make the final decision. Spectators must stay behind roped off areas Robots should not intentionally damage any of the game balls.
