17 III. Types of Faults The obstacle is meant to be passed, if the head and neck of the horse and the head of the athlete when mounted pass between the extremities of the element or obstacle as flagged (or where the flags have been before hit) Philine Ganders-Meyer - January

Types of Faults Refusal: only in connection with passing an obstacle (fence is approached) obstacles composed of several elements: every crossing of the line is a fault, except when black flagged and including last element in a circle (difference between e.g. 11a/b and 11/12) Philine Ganders-Meyer - January

Types of Faults Refusals and Run-Outs - Stopping in front of the fence -Jumping from a standstill (only allowed up to max. height of 30 cm, here only permanent standstill or stepping backwards is a refusal) - Run-Out (rider changing mind without having negotiated the fence is no refusal) - Circle, crossing the line after having negotiated the fence (Not after a refusal for second presentation at the fence) Philine Ganders-Meyer - January
20 III. Types of Faults Refusal/Run-Out Special Case: Bounce Is the distance of two elements at any place within the flags shorter than 5 m the horse automatically has been presented at the second element. Philine Ganders-Meyer - January

22 III. Types of Faults Fall FEI-Rules: Every Fall of Rider or Horse on the course (between start and finishing line) results in elimination Philine Ganders-Meyer - January
23 III. Types of Faults Difference between fall of horse and rider - AN ATHLETE is considered to have fallen when he is separated from his horse in such a way as to necessitate remounting or vaulting into the saddle. Dismounting to readjust saddlery is allowed - A HORSE is considered to have fallen when at the same time both its shoulder and quarters have touched either the ground or the obstacle and the ground or when it is trapped in a fence in such a way that it is unable to proceed without assistance or is liable to injure itself. 24 III. Types of Faults Faults in combinations: it is allowed to jump all elements again but this is not necessary Single fences must not be repeatedly jumped. Philine Ganders-Meyer - January
25 III. Types of Faults Tired horse/rider, dangerous riding (danger of reduced safety of a horse, rider or third party)!!! Please report to control, decision to be taken by GJ After elimination it is not allowed to proceed. Stopping/Elimination of a rider only in clear cases (3 refusals or a fall at your fence or by order of control) NOT in case you might think it is the third refusal at your fence!!!!) 26 III. Types of Faults In case you are not a 100% sure about the decision: just let control know immediately TD or Assistant TD or Sector Steward will come by during the competition and help you (maybe using video recordings) Philine Ganders-Meyer - January
27 IV. Special incidents Fence damaged: If possible, try to help yourself Keep same conditions for every competitor (esp. ground!) If safety is in question, call fence repair through control asap Philine Ganders-Meyer - January

Special incidents Special Case Fence with frangible devices : - make note for every horse whether it has hit the poles (1)not or (2)slightly or (3)hard or (4)broke it - check the devices whether they are still in good condition - in case of possibility of malfunction: call fence repair Philine Ganders-Meyer - January
29 IV.. Special incidents Accident: Keep radio with you, stay calm Study the situation - answer the questions from control Questions from control: Do you need a doctor/ paramedics / vet? Is the track clear? (Fence ok, horse/rider can leave the track) Philine Ganders-Meyer - January
30 IV. Special incidents Accident: Report to control, ask for help and stay in contact In case of serious fall -> use telephone, stay calm Keep photographers away, Put up screens Later: make notes, fill in fall report form Philine Ganders-Meyer - January
31 IV. Special incidents Stopping procedures 1. (Only) by order of Control 2. Confirmation by Stopping Point 3. One fence judge writes down the time when rider passes time marker. Check the time together. 4. The other fence judge places himself in front of the fence and waves the red flag AFTER the rider has passed the time marker!!! Philine Ganders-Meyer - January

Special incidents Use of stop watch/ Radio controlled times if rider has to be held on the course because of e.g. - a damaged fence, - a vet check - being overtaken and needs to stay at the fence for a certain time. Function of the Radios Pre-programmed channel Loudness (just loud enough not for spectators) Position (Wind, direction to Control...) only ONE to speak at the time wait for others to finish their messages fall always has priority!
