1 Race Report Round 1 WOMZA Premier Cup 20 March 2016 Phakisa MX Park Welkom. As we pulled into the Phakisa MX park amidst the sound of roaring super bikes and cars (which were on the main circuit), we could feel that there was something special about the place. Riders from JHB, PE, EL, Bloem, PMB and Cape Town participated in the event. The day started with a short prayer and thereafter 3 special 2015 awards were presented firstly to Joshua Mlimi for his outstanding accomplishments, secondly to Johnny Nell for his energy and years of support and lastly to Karen Sangster for her commitment, loyalty and efforts as the WOMZA National MX Secretary. Riders briefing was short and the day was then handed over to the CoC and our commentator for the day, Laren van Der Westhuizen. Laren Van Der Westhuizen kept the spectators informed throughout the day The track was magnificent and yes the big jump is still there!! The new club performed miracles to resurrect the facility which had been dormant for 9 years. Minimal dust and no injuries are always indicators of a well prepared track. The 50cc Pro class delivered some great racing with all the top emerging talent trying to establish some dominance in the class. Jordan Van Wyk (PMB), Peter Brink (JHB) & Kyle Townsend (PE) went bar to bar, but it was Van Wyk who impressed the spectators and secured the top spot on the podium. There was some exciting racing in the junior class as well but Thro Johnson was just to fast for Kaiden Culverwell and Arno Erasmus who came second and third respectively. In the 65cc class, Hayden Tully dominated proceedings and secured his place on top of the podium. Racing was intense between Tyler Tarantino, Chase Hanekom (EL) and Lucas Venter who all exchanged places in the heats. Some great talent is emerging from this class.

2 Some of the 65cc riders who challenged on the day Next up was the 85cc and Pro-Mini class. This class, arguably, delivered some of the best racing on the day, where 3 of the country s top riders battled it out. Justin Sangster, Camden Mc Lellan and Calvin Jean-Jacques all cleared the big jump, window to heaven and were going bar to bar. Sebastian Phelps and Mark Carty also raced brilliantly. At the end of the day it was Justin Sangster (CT), who stamped his dominance on the class. In the 85cc junior class, it was Hayden Tully who wrapped things up ahead of Titus Iversen (EL) and Nate Mc Lellan. 3 In the High school class (125A and 250B) we witnessed another display of MX brilliance where names like Joshua Mlimi, Jordan Venter, Luke Du Toit, Mathew Kruger and Tyrone Nel, showed us how to do it! This was one of the most entertaining classes to watch. Jordan Venter #131, tracks ahead of Luke Du Toit #20 and Matthew Kruger #21, in the High school class The Open Premier class was awesome to watch as Wesley Du Plooy (back from his trip abroad) wrapped things up, but not without a challenge from Ian Topliss and Josh Mlimi. Wesley Du Plooy produced an impressive ride in the Open Premier class

4 In the support and MX 3 class (which the spectators enjoyed the most) fun and excitement was the order of the day! Lourius Erasmus, the Phakisa club chairman even found the time to jump onto his bike and do some racing he earned a solid 2nd place in the support class. Jonny Nell (66 yrs old) not only received a special award but challenged in all 3 heats of the MX 3 class Last but not least there was lots of fun and Phakisa MX club is back on the map. Well done to their small committee and good luck for all your plans. There was time for fun in between racing Jono Mlimi, Seb Phelps and Sangster the gangster, share a lighter moment!
