2 PREVIEW : OGC NICE - AS MONACO Feature Preview After kicking-off their campaign with a convincing victory in Champions League qualifying, AS Monaco get the Ligue 1 season started when they make the short trip to the Allianz Riviera to face local rivals OGC Nice in the Côte d'azur derby on Saturday evening. Leonardo Jardim's side safely negotiated their Champions League third qualifying round tie against Swiss outfit Young Boys with a 4-0 second-leg victory at the Stade Louis II on Tuesday taking them through to the play-offs 7-1 on aggregate. It was a highly promising start for last season's quarter-finalists after a summer in which Yannick Ferreira Carrasco and Geoffrey Kondogbia have been sold to Atlético Madrid and Internazionale respectively. However, the club have been active in the transfer market and Jardim has eight new faces at his disposal at the start of this campaign. The attack in particular has been strengthened and new faces Guido Carrillo, Ivan Cavaleiro and Stephan El Shaarawy all scored in the Young Boys tie, as did the Croatian midfielder Mario Pasalic, who has been signed on loan from Chelsea to fill the space left by Kondogbia's departure. "We are good defensively. The difference is that this year we are starting well in attack too. I hope we can be more clinical this season, but that will not break our defensive solidity," said Monaco's Croatian international goalkeeper Danijel Subasic, who admitted that consistency could be an issue with what is a young squad. "Last year we had a really good season. This year we have a lot of talent up front, but a lot of young players. We could have three great games in a row and then take a dive. It is hard to predict." Monaco have won on each of their three visits to play Nice since the Allianz Riviera - one of the venues for Euro was opened in Of the season opener, Subasic added: "We are impatient. We are playing Nice in a great stadium with a brilliant atmosphere. I hope we can reproduce our performance against Bern. We need a good result to start well but it will be a difficult match. I saw their victories against Galatasaray and Napoli and Nice are very strong going forward." After finishing in 11th place last season, Nice have seen captain Didier Digard depart over the summer while talented left-back Jordan Amavi has been sold to Aston Villa and Brazilian midfielder Carlos Eduardo's loan from FC Porto came to an end. However, coach Claude Puel has seen maverick playmaker Hatem Ben Arfa finally sign after his move fell through in January. Les Aiglons have also signed Maxime Le Marchand from Le Havre and Jean-Michaël Seri from Paços de Ferreira in Portugal while Saint-Etienne defender Paul Baysse has arrived on loan. However, most of the attention this weekend will be on Valère Germain, who has been recruited on loan from Monaco and is set to make his competitive debut for Nice against his parent club. "I spent 10 years at Monaco so there was always going to be some apprehension at leaving. But I knew I was coming to a big club with a good squad of players and a super coach. This summer has gone very well and shown that I did not make a mistake," said Germain, who has scored four times in pre-season including in the 3-2 home win against Napoli, which was the highlight of Nice's preparations along with the 4-0 thumping of Turkish giants Galatasaray. "We have seen some good things, even if there is still work to do. We have been using a new system for the last month, a with a midfield diamond," added Germain. "It is the first time that I will come up against a former club. I am sure it will feel strange during the warm-up, seeing players I know well. But once the game begins that feeling will go away. I will be 200 percent motivated to help Gym win the game and start the season well. Monaco have got some great individuals, they concede very few goals and are very quick going forward. 3 - HISTORY: Nice have hosted their Côte d'azur rivals on 44 previous occasions and it is Monaco who have edge with 17 wins to 16 for the home side. The remaining 11 encounters have ended in draws. - Nice have scored 54 goals in this fixture to 53 for Monaco. - Monaco won last season's corresponding fixture 1-0 on February 20 this year, with Bernardo Silva (85') scoring the only goal of the game after Aymen Abdennour had been sent off for the visitors in first-half stoppage time in front of a crowd of 24, Monaco have won all three meetings of the clubs at Nice's new Allianz Riviera home.
