1 FISH BITES The Marlins look to bounce back from a series-opening loss tonight when they take on the Braves at 7:10 p.m. Miami will send right-hander Andrew Cashner to the mound for the start; he is 1-0 with a 7.41 ERA in four career appearances (three starts) against the Braves. Atlanta will counter with right-hander Matt Wisler, who is 0-2 with a 7.56 ERA in four career appearances (three starts) against the Fish. Tonight's ceremonial first pitch will be thrown out by South Dade Principal Javier Perez. This is the second leg of a 10-game homestand that began with a visit from the Nationals (2-1) and wraps up next week with a three-game set against the Mets (Sept ). Following this 'stand, the Marlins will finish their 2016 regular-season schedule with a brief three-game trip to face the Nationals in the District (Sept. 30-October 2). LAST NIGHT VS. ATLANTA The Marlins fell behind 5-1 after three innings and were unable to claw back in a 6-3 loss to open this series. Marcell Ozuna got Miami on the board with an RBI-infield single in the third. The Fish attempted to rally late in the ball game, striking for one run on a homer by J.T. Realmuto in the seventh and another on an RBI-double by Martín Prado in the eighth, but the effort fell short. Miami's bullpen allowed just one run and three hits over 6.0 innings of work, including 2.0 perfect frames for Justin Nicolino (three strikeouts). HARD LUCK AT HOME Andrew Cashner has struggled to a 1-4 record and 6.18 ERA in 10 appearances (nine starts) since the Marlins acquired him from San Diego on July 29. Much of that damage has been done on the road, however, as Cashner has had some hard luck in his outings at Marlins Park. Excluding a relief appearance on August 8 vs. San Francisco, when he was pressed into service in the 14 th inning, Cashner has posted a 2.42 ERA (22.1 ip/6 er) in four starts at home. He has pitched at least 5.0 innings in each outing. He tied his season high for strikeouts in his last start at home, fanning nine Phillies over 5.1 innings on September 7, earning his only win to-date with the Fish. Cashner has received just 3.22 runs of support per 9.0 innings in his home starts. RARE CATCH J.T. Realmuto hit his 11 th home run of the season last night, surpassing his old career high of 10, set in That is tied for the 10 th -most home runs in a season by a Marlins' catcher, trailing the record of 19 set by Charles Johnson in Realmuto is currently batting.307 (145x473) when appearing as a catcher, which would set a new Club record for backstop, surpassing Ivan Rodriguez's.300 average in Realmuto now has 265 hits, 51 doubles, and 21 home runs in his first two full seasons as a catcher (excluding stats from his 11 games in 2014). According to STATS LLC, he is just the fifth catcher in MLB history to reach those plateaus in his first two full seasons as a catcher, joining Johnny Bench from (311 hits-63 doubles-41 homers), Benito Santiago from ( ), Kenji Johjima from ( ), and Russell Martin from ( ). LEAP YEAR Christian Yelich set a new career high for home runs this season when he hit his 10 th on July 22 against the Mets. He doubled that number Wednesday night against the Nationals when he sent his 20 th into the upper deck of right field in the seventh inning. His increase of 13 home runs over 2015 is tied for the sixth-largest in the Majors this season, with Mookie Betts (18-31), Xander Bogaerts (7-20), Freddy Galvis (7-20), and Gregory Polanco (9-22). The largest jump has been by Mark Trumbo (+21, 22-43), followed by Miguel Cabrera (+16, 18-34), Ian Kinsler +15, 11-26), Evan Longoria (+15, 21-36), Carlos Santana (+15, 19-34), Brian Dozier (+14, 28-42), and Jason Kipnis (+14, 9-23). Yelich, who now has 95 RBI on the year, is looking to become just the sixth outfielder in Marlins' history to reach the 20/100 plateau. He would join Gary Sheffield (42/120 in 1996), Moises Alou (23/114 in 1997), Preston Wilson (31/121 in 2000), Miguel Cabrera (33/112 in 2004), and Giancarlo Stanton (37/102 in 2014). DEEP THREE Christian Yelich Wednesday night joined Giancarlo Stanton (27) and Marcell Ozuna (23) in reaching the 20-home run plateau this season. It marks the first time since 2010 that the Marlins had at least three players reach 20 homers; Dan Uggla (33), Stanton (22), and Hanley Ramirez (21) did it that year. It is the first time in Club history that the team's three primary outfielders all reached 20 home runs, and they are the only team with three players to hit 20+ home runs when appearing as outfielders this year (Stanton has 26 as a right fielder, one as a DH). In fact, the last time a Club had three players reach 20 home runs in a season as outfielders was 2008, when Ryan Braun (37), Mike Cameron (25), and Corey Hart (20) did it for the Brewers. PLAYING TO THE COMPETITION Overall record on this date: 9-10 The Marlins have gone (.500) against teams in first place in their division, based on standings on the date of game, and are just (.447) against opponents in last place in their division. The.053 difference in winning percentage between contests vs. first and last place teams is the fifth-largest mark in MLB, behind the Yankees (.126), Rockies (.107), Twins (.067), and Rangers (.066). The Braves have been a major factor in that number for the Marlins, as they are just 6-10 against Atlanta this season. - STATS LLC THAT'S ONE RARE FEAT Giancarlo Stanton's solo home run in the sixth inning Tuesday night vs. Washington pushed across Miami's only run in a 1-0 victory over the Nationals. It marked just the 10 th time in Club history that a solo home run was the difference in a 1-0 Miami win, and the third straight time the Nationals were victimized. The only other time it happened for the Marlins in the last 10 years was also on a blast by Stanton, on May 14, 2011 in D.C. Prior to that, it had not happened since Cody Ross did the damage to Washington on July 19, 2006 at Dolphin Stadium. Stanton is the only player in Club history to accomplish the feat twice.
