Jorge Alcala started for Corpus Christi and tossed four scoreless frames, battling out of trouble in each inning. In the fifth, Alcala allowed Arkansas to load the bases with one out. Chris Mariscal delivered an RBI single to give the Travelers a 1-0 edge. Left-hander Kit Scheetz replaced Alcala and later allowed a walk with the bases loaded to Joe DeCarlo, extending the lead to 2-0. Corpus Christi's offense struggled against Arkansas starter Nathan Bannister, who fired five scoreless innings for a victory. Akeem Bostick entered in the sixth and retired six in a row to begin his outing. In the eighth, Chuck Taylor collected an RBI single to make it a 3-0 game. The Hooks fought back in the eighth inning against David McKay, who issued back-to-back walks to Chas McCormickand Josh Rojas to begin the inning. Randy Cesar brought home a run with a groundout and Stephen Wrenn hit an RBI single to cut Corpus Christi's deficit to 3-2. Arkansas then turned to Matt Festa, who proceeded to escape further trouble and keep the Travelers ahead. In the ninth, Dario Pizzano lifted a two-run homer to left field off Bostick. Festa tossed a scoreless ninth to secure the win. The Texas League South first-half champs are 25-9 (.735) since May 26. WEARY OF TRAVELERS: Arkansas snapped the Hooks 4-game win streak last night. The Travelers are 7-3 against Corpus Christi this season, and stand as the only Texas League club to boast a winning record opposite the Hooks. Frisco (6-14), Midland (5-10), San Antonio (6-10), Northwest Arkansas (2-7), and Springfield (1-5) are all losing the season series vs. Corpus Christi. Tulsa has split its 6 meetings with the Hooks. Removing Arkansas from the mix puts Corpus Christi s record at 49-23, which works out to a.681 winning percentage. BULLPEN BOLSTERED: The Astros have promoted RHP Ronel Blanco to Corpus Christi from High-A Buies Creek. Blanco went 5-1 with a 1.73 ERA in 19 games for the BC Astros, while going 4-for-5 in save chances. He struck out 41, walked 18, and held the Carolina League to 1 home run and a.146 batting average. Blanco, a 24-year-old from Santiago, DR, leads Carolina League relievers in batting average against. His 10.2 strikeouts per 9 IP rank 3rd in the circuit.
