OFFC website, make it your resource President s Message The January General Dinner meeting was well attended, and we had a great Team as guest speakers, presenting valuable information on fishing the Grande Ronde. This river is not only a great steelhead river, but in the summer time, has fantastic bass fishing. The OFFC Board has been busy deliberating..continued
2 a problem we have been facing for a number of months. As you all know, member dues are to be paid by the end of January, and we do have a grace period. The dues help to subsidize the cost of our meetings and guest speaker fees. In addition, we are charged a fee to hold out meetings at the Holiday Inn, and it is based on us charging for a specified number of meals. If we do not meet that number, the club has to take the money we are short out of our treasury. Last year, we had to help subsidize the cost of the meeting twice. However, we constantly have a small number of people who were past club members, who still come and enjoy the meeting, but do not purchase the meal and help defray the cost of the meeting. Your board and I have be deliberating on how to make it more equitable for everyone, and have the people who are not paying for a meal to help subsidize the meeting and guest speaker. We are discussing a possible admission fee that "guests" can pay to attend the meeting and not purchase the dinner to help cover our costs. We are thinking of a proposed amendment and if we can come to a conclusion, will present it at the next General Meeting for Discussion, and the following meeting for a vote. Our next General meeting will be fascinating to most people, because one of our local experts will be discussing fly tying tools, and materials, and how to select good materials and the best suppliers. Even if you don't tie flies, getting a chance to look at the various types of materials used in the flies that you use will be interesting. Hope to see you there. Richard Lange OFFC Club Meeting Rocky Hammond Fly tying Materials and Equipment with Rock Hammond February 24 th Get ready to learn how to pick outstanding fly tying materials and where to buy the hard to find feathers! The speaker for February is Rocky Hammond. Rocky is the President of the Northwest Atlantic Salmon Fly Tying Guild and has been tying Atlantic Salmon flies for over 20 years. During that time he has scoured the world to obtain some of the most exotic and rare feathers necessary to tie the extremely elaborate Atlantic Salmon flies. Rocky has won numerous tying awards including the World Atlantic Salmon Fly Tying Contest. Rocky also ties all other types of flies including steelhead, trout and saltwater. Good fly tying materials make a huge difference in the ease of tying and the finish of the fly. Attend the meeting to hear how to select the best tools and materials whether it is hackle, dubbing or tinsel. Also, enjoy looking at some of Rocky's beautiful flies. See you there! 4 OFFC Conservation Activities "The Yakima River Clean-up Day" Sponsored by - Worley Bugger Fly Co. As a professional fly fishing guide service and a premier Yakima River outfitter, Worley Bugger Fly Co. is aware of the added daily pressures that affect the fish, the river and the over all environment of the river over the length of the fishing season. We feel a responsibility to this magnificent resource and consider ourselves fortunate to have the ability to show others the Yakima River. Therefore, it is our duty to actively participate and coordinate the "Yakima River Clean Up Day. By doing so, we can ensure a healthier environment for the fish, wildlife and other inhabitants of the Yakima and it's beautiful surroundings. The staff, management and professional guide team of Worley-Bugger Fly Co. is proud to announce the "Tenth" annual Yakima River Clean-Up Day. The guides and employee's of Worley-Bugger Fly Co. will be collecting litter and other refuse from the river bed and the banks of the Yakima River from the Thorp Bridge boat launch to the Roza Dam boat launch on Saturday, February 28th, We invite all who are interested in keeping the Yakima River a clean and pristine fishery to join us for a day on the river. Additional boat space left available will be filled on a Pre Registration Basis for those who do not have a boat. We do our best to fill all available boat space, however seats fill quickly or are already spoken for. Those participants without boats or those people we can't pair up with a vacancy in a boat will be asked to work the river banks and boat launch areas of the river. Because of the complexity of the event and the number of people participating, we ask that if you do plan to volunteer your time and efforts for the day, please pre-register. You may do so online or by calling the fly shop in Ellensburg. By keeping the clean up event organized, we are able to coordinate the day so it runs smoothly and efficiently. Fly Shop Registration: FISH Working together we can all make a difference in the appearance of the river and it's surroundings. Remember to bring your fly fishing gear, waders, boots and warm clothing. We encourage fun and fishing throughout the day! A barbeque will be hosted by Worley Bugger Fly Co and Jerry and Brenda Leath of the Ellensburg K.O.A. proceeding the clean up starting approximately at 4:00 p.m. Food and drinks will be provided to those participating in the event. A raffle drawing will also be held proceeding the barbeque. Many of the fly fishing industry manufactures have recognized this as a worth while event and have contributed hundreds of dollars of merchandise to be given away to those participating in the clean up. RIVER CLEAN UP CANNED FOOD DRIVE This year once again, Worley Bugger Fly Co. has established a non perishable food drive in conjunction with our Yakima River Clean Up. For every canned item you bring to the clean up morning event, you will receive 1 raffle ticket per canned food item. This raffle ticket will be good for the SPECIAL drawing that will be held immediately following the clean up barbeque. The Food Drive Raffle prize has a retail value of almost $ Stilly Snohomish Fisheries Enhancement Task Force Worley-Bugger Fly Co. will provide coffee and pastries from 8:00-9:00 a.m., Saturday morning at the K.O.A. boat launch in Ellensburg. Jerry and Brenda Leath, owners of the Ellensburg K.O.A. have been gracious enough again this year to host our annual clean up event. At this time volunteer registration and instructions on the clean up will be discussed. Participants with boats will be designated to a section of the river for the day. Trash bags will be provided by the Department of Transportation. Please Contact Kristin Marshall at or kristin@stillysnofish.org with questions or to sign up for any upcoming event.
