We are interested in each player s development as a person, a student, and a basketball player. Being a part of the basketball program at Newman Smith is a commitment, not only for the student-athlete, but for his family as well sacrifices must be made, but the rewards will outweigh the obligations. 3 CODE OF CONDUCT FOR THE PARENTS OF INTERSCHOLASTIC STUDENT-ATHLETES The University Interscholastic League and C-FBISD believe that interscholastic athletic completion should demonstrate high standards of ethics, sportsmanship, promote good character, and other important life skills. We also believe that the highest potential of sports is achieved when participants are committed to pursuing victory with honor. Together coaches and parents can help the student-athlete excel in the following life lessons: 1. Trustworthiness 2. Respect 3. Responsibility 4. Fairness 5. Caring Together we can help the student-athlete see how important the above life lessons are as we become role models for each athlete. We encourage the parents to support the program, cheer for every participant and treat officials with respect. As each adult sets an example for our student-athletes to follow, it further embraces the idea of good sportsmanship. Below are some behavioral expectations for which UIL and C- FBISD would like our spectators to follow: 1. Cheer for your team and enjoy the competition. 2. Do not ridicule or intimidate the opposing team or fans. 3. Praise student-athletes for improving their skills no matter the outcome of the game. 4. Study the game to better understand the mechanics of the sport being played. 5. Show respect for everyone involved in the game; players, coaches, officials, fans. 6. Show appreciation by recognizing a great play by either team. 7. Refrain from the use of any controlled substances (alcohol, drugs, etc.) before, during or after the game on or near the school event. 8. Sit back, relax and have fun at the game, it may ease your child s nerves while playing a tough game. U.I.L allows the officials to ask my school administrator or coach to remove a spectator who is displaying undesirable behavior before, during or after an athletic contest. Please keep in mind that the school is responsible for the behavior of their spectators the school district can and will be punished by the U.I.L for the actions of patrons in violation of any standard or rule. Please keep the environment positive and fun for those who participate in and attend the athletic contest. ******************************Sign and Return Below Portion**************************** I/We have read the Parent Code of Conduct and will abide by the standards and rules set forth by the U.I.L. and C-FBISD. The great feeling of honor, pride and personal satisfaction that comes with being a member of a great team has no equal! Not just anyone can be an athlete. It takes something extra. It requires great personal sacrifice, hard work, burning desire, physical and mental courage, and a blind devotion to a common cause. The following items are the ones, which we will be judged on as a squad, by the public, administrative officials, fellow students, and most important, by ourselves: 1. Academic Attitudes-No Pass, No Play 8. Theft 2. Drugs, Tobacco, & Alcohol 9. Choice of Language 3. Sense of Responsibility-Self Discipline 10. Squad Unity 4. Rest Habits 11. Diet 5. Injury Rehabilitation 12. Personal Appearance 6. Religious Attitudes-Respect All Forms 13. Citizenship 7. Winning Attitude- Above the Line 14. Civil Conduct Your reaction and adherence to this code of behavior will indicate just what your attitude is toward athletics. If you find it impossible to live within this code, the Athletic Coordinator and/or Head Coach of your sport will reserve the right to dismiss you from the squad for the general welfare of everyone concerned. This code of behavior is result of a joint effort of members of the Neman Smith High School coaching staff. The sole purpose is to create an atmosphere of pride, honor, and a winning spirit.
