Thank you to all of our customers for your previous and continued support. It is humbling at times to see the calibre of cattlemen using our Bulls to breed some of the most distinguished cow herds in Western Canada. As many of you have noticed, we have been transitioning to the name Ranch Ltd over the last few years. The Brand is the one that we have been using since the Mackenzie family homesteaded Near Mountain View. The brand was registered by the Mackenzie Family in We recognize our heritage and will be going by this name from now on. There have been limited other changes other than Jade, and Steve taking on increasingly more responsibility. We bring you the same Bulls from the same cow herd, with the same management that has earned the trust of Ranchers for over 50 years in the Red Angus Business. Also new for 2017/2018 we have moved the feeding location of the Bulls from Claresholm Beef to Glen and Kelly Hall near Stavely, AB. Thank you to Wayne Norris and Staff at Claresholm Beef for all the years you cared for our Bulls. The new location offers a larger pen with more room for the Bulls to travel. Glen and Kelly are passionate about the beef industry and their dedication is evident with everything that they do. The Bulls have been fed responsibly a ration that exhibits their ability to perform without sacrificing longevity. Thank you to Glen and Kelly for all of your hard work. After the sale all bulls that do not go home with their new owner will return back to Ranch until delivery where they will be fed a maintenance ration of Hay and pellets was a year that we will not soon forget. We saw excellent spring moisture on the ranch followed by the hottest driest summer that many of us can recall. This left us with tall, dry, brown grass, and we can relate with many of you, as we also spent most of the summer lying awake on high fire alert with several wildfires in the area burning nearby. Thank you to everyone who offered your support as you were hearing reports of our near evacuation and your concern for the wellbeing of us and our livestock. It is great to be in a business where people are always looking out for one another. We are pleased with the lineup of sires we are currently using. We have some old favorites such as Red Jewel King 108Z and Lazy RC Thor 215Z. We also have used some newer sires that their sire groups last year caught a lot of attention such as Red 5L Tradin Right 45A who sired last year s high selling Bull, and also Andras Fusion, and Mac Upshot 118B. Every year we are seeing the genetic improvement in our cows. We see the progress we ve made to ensure uniformity of both the Bulls and Heifers that we raise. The cows calve over 60 days and are bred early in the spring before we see much for green grass. They are sound footed with good udders. We have no time for problem cows and they are culled heavily each year for any slight fault that arises. The Bulls on offer represent long days, short nights, and tough decisions. We are excited with what we have accomplished. There is a good selection of heifer bulls, as well as some who will offer some higher performance. You will find a variety of sire groups (particularly the 5L Tradin Right and Mac Upshot 118B) that will allow you to retain some outstanding replacement females. We have provided data with improved reliability through the use of i50k genomics testing. No bulls will sell through the ring without passing a semen evaluation and are all fully guaranteed. Bulls are not Creep Fed. We feel that creep feed is an artificial representative of performance and sacrifices longevity. At home the Bulls are primarily worked horseback and walked through regularly on foot. Also while at home Don inspects the Bulls almost daily on his ATV. After weaning when they go to Hall s they are both rode through horseback and walked through on foot. A $50.00 discount will be applied off invoice for all bulls leaving the market on sale day. All other bulls will return back to Ranch and be delivered to your door within 300km of the sale site at our convenience. Once sold all bulls become the responsibility of the purchaser. We recommend insurance if you would like your new bull to return to the ranch to be delivered at a later date. If you would like your bull delivered further than 300km from the sale site, please contact us ahead of the sale to discuss possible arrangements. After much consideration we opted to use EXAR Upshot 0562B. EXAR Upshot is one of the most exciting sires in the Angus Breed. 6 What On Earth is i50k Genomics Testing? In the Fall of 2015 we began investing in the use of i50k Genomics Testing. Every Angus Bull in this year s Bull sale as well as every purebred Replacement female we have retained have undergone the use of this technology. What does this mean to you as a purchaser of our offering? First of all this ensures Sire Verification of every Bull. This eliminates any possible Sire error. Another benefit to you is an improvement in the accuracy of the EPD s on all of our Bulls. Traditionally the Canadian Angus Association takes averages of both parents of each calf, they then calculate the EPD s on each animal. What i50k does is takes genomic markers collected through DNA and blends this with EPD s to achieve Genomically Enhanced EPD s. This gives us much more accurate information. When you purchase a Bull that has not been tested you are relying on EPD averages that both his parents have produced. When looking at an i50k Tested Bull the Genomically Enhanced EPD s are as accurate as though the Bull you are purchasing has sired 20 calves depending on the trait. This obviously doesn t tell us everything about the Bull, but gives us similar information of what we might see from the first set of calves they have sired. Although EPD s have been a very valuable tool in the past, the use of i50k offers added confidence in purchasing decisions. This technology is not some gimmick to make our Bulls look better than normal. For every Bull in the sale that experienced a positive impact on their EPD s another Bull had a negative impact. Take Lot # s 107, 115 & 119 in this year s sale for example. These three bulls are full embryo transfer brothers. Normally their EPD s would be identical before siring any calves, but because they have been i50k Tested you can see variance in some traits.
