1 Girls BADMINTON OFFICIAL RULE BOOK The rules shall be Laws of Badminton (N.C.C.P.) Ontario Badminton Assoc 2. SCHEDULING The format of the leagues will be determined by the number of entries in each age group and division. (see Current Format Summary, Appendix 1) League Games should begin as close to 4:00 pm as possible. Coaches should call if they are going to arrive before 3:30pm. 3. OFFICIALS Officials are not required, however if the couples playing are having difficulty refereeing their own games, coaches from both teams may be asked to monitor game. The girls will referee their own games. The scores should be announced before each point to avoid confusion. If a problem exists, the girls should: i. replay the point ii. find a solution amiable to both sides iii. AS A LAST RESORT... stop play and ask for a coach or referee 4. LENGTH OF GAME Two of three, 21 rally point matches Scoring is done within each individual age group. The school with the most points within an age group will be awarded the age group plaque and receive CISAA-G ribbons or medals. Points: A team may score a maximum of 12 points (winning 6/6 matches*) *if you play more than 6 couples, only the first 6 count for points Two points per match won One point per tie (draw). This applies at the U13/U14 levels only ( i.e. BSS vs SCS couple # 4 each won a game in the match, therefore, each team receives one point) b. Both coaches must report complete results by fax, phone or to the Convenor or Results Coordinator (as applicable) within 24 hours of the competition. All coaches are asked to check the CISAA website regularly to ensure scores were

2 reported and recorded accurately. As directed by the Convenor, results for specific teams should also be reported to the Toronto Star. 5. SCORING Reporting of scores should be confirmed by fax or 24 hours after each match. A reporting sheet or reporting information will be supplied by the convenor. ** Coaches should confirm results with each other prior to leaving the school. 6. ELIGIBILITY - See Constitutional, Article XIII (a) (b) (c) (d) (e) (f) (g) (h) (i) Eligibility sheets (are no longer necessary). All players are eligible for a maximum of two (2) regular season league games at a higher level of play (Div. 1 being higher than Div. 2). Any player who, during the course of the season, plays more than 2 league games (or meets) for a team at a higher level, forfeits her status at the lower level in that sport for that season. Players are not eligible to participate in playoff/championship games with teams at a higher level that they have not been with on a full-time basis for that season Player use at a higher level than their full-time team is restricted for the purpose of fielding a full higher level team due to a shortage of players by reason of sickness, injury or absence. Players used in this way must be noted on game sheets. The Athletic Director must be made aware of a coach s intention to use a player in a higher level league game. No player in any age group may play in more than one age group playoffs in the same season in the same sport. There is no restriction on players participating in higher level competition during exhibition or invitational games and tournaments. No player from a higher level team may move down at any time to play at a lower level (Div.i is higher than Div.ii,) Players competing in games should be regular practicing members of the team. It is recommended that ranked players play at an appropriate age level for their level of play. There is no longer a requirement that they must move up to a higher level. Ineligible Players - Penalty for Use Where an ineligible player competes in a game, that game shall be automatically counted as a loss for the school for which she competes. The team receiving the win will be awarded the maximum number of points allowed by the maximum differential for that sport. Substitution: Only team members (which includes reserves) who have been practising regularly with the team can substitute if a player is absent for a game.

3 *if a player(s) in the top 6 couples are absent, only official team players may substitute. If there are not enough players to substitute, couple # 6 must default, & the other couples are moved up. 7. UNIFORMS School team or Phys. Ed uniform, or whites. 8. EQUIPMENT The official shuttlecock will be the Yonex Mavis 350 Yellow model, as at OFSAA. Mandatory use of protective eye wear for all age levels at all games/championships. (protective eye glasses are not sufficient) GAME BIRDS must be provided by the host school. Visiting schools provide their own racquets. Floor markings and net heights should meet O.B.A. regulations. 9. CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT FORMAT There will be a championship tournament at all age levels. This tournament will try to include all teams in the league. Just like the regular season, all matches at the championship tournament will be playedwith the team s six couples ranked 1 6. The seeding for the championship tournament will be determined by the league standings. In the championship tournament, when a school wins a match 4-2 / 5-1 / 6-0, the whole team will advance to the winner section of the next round. If the schools tie, 3-3, then game and point differentials will be used to determine the winner. TOURNAMENT INFORMATION The convenor is responsible for hosting the one day tournament - Ribbons are awarded for first to sixth place in each category Tournament hosts may provide an optional lunch for participants, not to exceed $5. Notification of such an option is to be made by the host in advance of the tournament and participating ADs may decline the option at that time. 10. TIE BREAKING FORMATS

4 11. ADDITIONAL PLAYING RULES a. NUMBER OF COUPLES: 6 to count 7 may play if coaches agree b. PLAYING ORDER: (except for transportation or early leaving issues) first match play #1-#6 second match play #6-#1 If there is a special request re: playing order, coach must speak to other coach by 1:00pm When 2 teams are scheduled to play on the same day, ONE age group will start and finish their match before the next age group begins (to be decided by the AD s). For the second match between these same two teams, alternate the age group to play first. 12. CONVENOR See the CISAA Constitution, Summary of Convenor s Responsibilities, Appendix SPORTSMANSHIP & CONDUCT See CISAA Constitution, Article XIX, Discipline a) At no time may there be coaching from the sidelines, including from parents. b) Polite applause may follow a well played point. c) "conferencing" with partner should be discouraged during a game. d) i) Senior / Junior should not leave the court between games. Coaches may coach on the court: (1) 1 minute between games 1 & 2 (2) 2 minutes between games 2 & 3 ii) U13/U14 may have 2 minutes coaching between games. 14. COACHES RESPONSIBILITIES & HOST SCHOOL The host coach will assume that there will be 6 couples per age group. Calls should be made to the appropriate coaches by lunchtime on game day if there are any exceptions to this number ( ie. absences or a 7th exhibition couple).

5 15. AWARDS CISAA gold and silver medals will be awarded to the Senior and Junior champions and ribbons to the u13 and u14 champions. Championship plaques will be presented to the championship team. The tournament will be held at a suitable location determined by the AD s 16. GUIDELINES for OFSAA REPRESENTATION Eligibility Rosters must be sent in for all Senior Div. 1 OFSSA bound teams to the convenor before the first C.I.S.A.A. league game.
