A 2000 graduate of West Alabama, Russo led Hofstra to a school record 34 wins in The 14th head coach in program history, his record currently stands at and the 136 wins rank second all-time among Hofstra Baseball coaches. Russo is assisted by former MLB pitcher John Habyan, Matt Wessinger and Brandon Stein.

2 Versus Albany: Hofstra is 8-6 all-time versus Albany. The teams met last season in a neutral site series in Salem, Virginia, with Albany winning all three games (7-6, 4-3, 3-1). Home Openers: Hofstra is 10-6 in its last 16 home openers. The Pride defeated NYIT last season, No-No: Seamus Brazill fired the first no-hitter in program history in a 1-0 win over Lamar on February 25. He went seven innings, walked four, hit a batter and struck out five. It was also the first complete game shutout for a Pride pitcher since March 31, 2001 (Gerald Auth at Hartford). No-No No. 2: John Rooney and Seamus Brazill combined on a no-hitter in an 11-0 win over Mount St. Mary s on March 10. Rooney threw six innings and struck out eight,, while Brazill went the final three innings for the save. Starring Staff: Hofstra pitching ranks second in the nation in ERA at 1.69 as of March 15. John Rooney has not allowed a run in his three starts and six of the eight Pride pitchers used in 2018 have not allowed more than three earned runs. K-Corner: John Rooney fanned a career-best 13 batters over eight shutout innings at Norfolk State on March 3 and has 26 strikeouts in 20 innings this season...chris Weiss struck out eight batters in a three-inning relief stint against Norfolk State on March 4 and has 20 in 11 2/3 innings this season. Zach Attack: Zach Altieri notched his first career win in Hofstra s 8-6 victory over Norfolk State on March 4. He followed that with a win over UMBC on March 10. So Close: Through 10 games, Hofstra is 4-1 in games decided by two runs or less. Hofstra was 6-12 in such games in 2017 and 5-12 in games decided by one or two runs in Approaching Milestones: John Rooney needs eight strikeouts to become Hofstra s all-time leader with 197. He currently sits in third place with 189, four behind Justin Romano and seven behind John Bilello. Win Streak: The Pride s eight-game winning streak is their longest since a nine-game win streak in Shutouts: Hofstra s has two shutouts through seven games after not recording one in 51 games in The school record for shutouts in a season in four, set by the 2012 Pride.
